  1. My mum was a school teacher for 44 years. She hated having to go on all the stupid teacher training courses as at the time it was all this "back to basics" and going on about how they were going to return to "traditional" methods, leaving aside of course, that none of the instructors, or anyone from the education office, were remotely old enough to have any experience of same. Anyway, one day my mum is in a class being lectured to by one of these muppets who decided to talk to my mum like she was an idiot. Unhappily for them, my mum recognised them and announces loudly; "I know you, i taught you, you were in my class" That kind of put a stop to that.. john.
  2. I agree, I have seen somewhere the HSE saying that a person MUST have training [perfectly true] and also that they MUST have a certificate [certainly NOT true as far as i can see] Nothing wrong with what you are doing [I would say] john..
  3. If anyone gets hurt the golf club will have some talking to do, would be easier just to get the cert. Having said that, as has been pointed out "should" [as in PUWER quoted above] is most certainly not "must" The HSE site though, says that an employed person MUST have had the training and a cert, Anyone got a link to the actual act of parliament that states this. I do not think there is one.. Contrast this, to the situation with asbestos. There is no doubt what certs are needed there, as there is the "control of asbestos regulations 2012" john..
  4. I would agree with that 100% [which is why i asked if capstan winches were available a while back] I looked up the Eder 1800, and for most things, i would imagine it would piss all over a Tirfor, and, as you have pointed out, not much difference in price either. Do not get me wrong, a Tirfor is a lovely bit of kit, but ****************ing hard work.. At a pulling force of 1.6 tons, the handle of the Tirfor requires a force of 120 pounds [and you pull the cable in about 2 inches] The thing with its rope also weighs about 70 pounds. As you say, if you are going to be winching stuff all day, you would have to be a loony to try it with a Tirfor. I use mine for pulling my trailer [and digger] up a steep slope from around the back of my house. I used it once to pull a section of tree out of a stream and up a bank, nearly killed me!! john..
  5. When i bought my Tirfor it came with a 50 metre rope. As you say, proper pain to use, so i have since got a 20m and a 10m rope too.. Is there not some sort of capstan winch that can be used with ordinary rope. This would be a thousand times better.. john.
  6. Hi All, If i was going to get a clone one, i would get one of these Yale ones, as at least they are from a reputable firm. These ones have a steel case, but i think they do alloy ones too.. They are £470 including the rope, so that seems very good as the same but a Tirfor one is nearly £1700.. It would be my choice anyway.. 7. I have the cables for mine in tyres, It is by FAR the best way to store them especially when you consider the price of the cable.. john..
  8. I have never used the chinese clone things but i do have two genuine Tirfors. A 500kg rated "Jockey J5" which is an amazing really light bit of kit [wants to be for the price] and i also have a really lovely TU1.6 which is again, brilliant, but soooo heavy. You would not want to carry that far.. Quality though, you would not beat them.. john..

    Measles

Yes, true, that is why so many autistic people did not get diagnosed as a child and hence had ruined lives until such times as they got diagnosed as adult, USUALLY whilst being investigated for some other condition as 80% of autistic people have a co-morbid mental heath condition too. [which usually gets ignored] They also have a very high suicide rate [hardly surprising] and a lot of autistic kids would have killed themselves as a result.of the treatment you have described. As for the MMR. Yep, 100% correct. john.

    Measles

I think you will find that professionals come under HUGE pressure NOT to diagose people, as to do so, invariably leads to their department having to spend money they have not got.. [Money they would nuch rather keep to use to pay their own wages..] Same with DWP, plus the staff geting bonuses for disallowing claims..

    Measles

Well that is complete bollocks as the very first thing the DWP would want to see is a formal written diagnosis by an NHS consultant psychiatrist and you will not tell one of them what to think.. john..

    Measles

Well, you are wrong... A person is BORN with autism, which is well before you have the MMR Autism is an organically verifiable malformation of the brain, in other words, it is a PHYSICAL thing, nothing to do with what happens after you are born. Most of the rubbish about autism out there is either written by halfwits, or idiot parents in denial. If you want to know why it seemed like that there were not so many years ago, wel i can tell you that easily, as Mick said, either they were not diagnosed, or, as i am saying, they were, but were shut away in a large hospital out of sight.. The other thing that skews things, is that in about the late 1990's, for some reason it became "trendy" to have it, and as such, you then had loads of self diagnosed idiots turning up out there. Back then though, it was often known as the far less trendy sounding "psychosis of childhood" Not so many people wanted to label themselves as psychotic.. Have a look at the two pages i have shown below and look at the dates... john
  13. Have YOU tried reading the rest of it instead of just a caption to a photograph??? john..
  14. Ha ha.. Ok, best you all read this then.. UK case law and trespassing roots (and subsidence) – Arboriculture ARBORICULTURE.WORDPRESS.COM An investigation of the case law in the UK relating to trespassing roots and subsidence. john..
  15. Well, if the roots are on the neighbours land, they have every right to remove them, regardless of trees or anything else.. john..
  16. Who owns the fence and how do you know/ john..
  17. Very VERY interesting... How much speed do ii actually need?? Virgin have got me on 200 whatever they ares, but all i ever do is to watch, errrm, streaming videos, youtube and emails. I looked on some site yesterday about this sort of thing and they said that in my area they have got 5G [which they said is faster than any cable connection, or at least as fast as] and they say you can have it for two weeks to try it out.. The firm is called "three" was very tempted until i found that they force you to have direct debit which is not going to happen.. john..
  18. Hi all, I have just discovered that never mind cable or BT phone lines, you can have broadband sent to you by radio waves as it were... Now that is an interesting thing... Anyone had it and what you think?? Good?? crap?? john..
  19. Mine is £62 plus another £5 as i will not do direct debit with the twats.. I knew a bloke years ago told them straight to shove it up their arse. They phoned him back half hour later and did it for half the price.. john..
  20. The place with the problems was NHS wales mind, might be different here..
  21. I did that, and it let me in to their site, but would not let me see the emails.. I am wondering if i should buy one of them domain things as suggested.. Only thing that worried me is that i was told that some "big users" what ever they are, will block things from domains they have not heard of... I know the NHS used to block hotmail [i was told by the staff yesterday] john..
  22. 1, Ok, back many many years ago i had a 486 computer on win 3.1 and the ISP was compuserve [who went bust i think] Someone set me up with hotmail that i thought was shit and never used. 2, Next thing with a newer computer i had win XP pro and NTL cable [who got bought out by virgin] Win XP pro had Microsoft outlook on it as an email program on it and someone got it to work with NTL for me. 3, Later i got a new computer on win 8.1 This did not have outlook, so someone said that thunderbird was very close so i downloaded that and with help got the virgin thing going again. 4, I had my own john.lewis etc etc email address and later managed to set one up for my mum too. Virgin refer to this as a secondary account. This secondary account has a different email address pat ramage etc etc and a separate password too. 6, Now this is important.. to log into the virgin site AT ALL, not just to see your email, to get in at ALL, you get to a login screen, it asks you to pick an email address, asks you the password for that address and you are in. THEN once in, you can check you emails if you want. 5, A few days ago, my email abruptly stopped working. I try investigating and when tried to sign into the virgin thing, that was a page full of stuff saying that my email address had been "blocked or was unavailable" 6, I got to a screen that said some shit about you had to have a NEW email address to sign in, one that was NOT a virgin one. There were pages of other instructions that i did not understand really, but i followed them as best i could and gave them the old hotmail address. 7, I tried to sign in then, only to find that my ORIGINAL primary virgin email address was missing from the list you have to pic one out of.. Great, they had deleted my primary email address. 8, I went on their chat thing and got the primary email address reinstated to the list, AND they reset the password and told me to wait a few hours and it would work again, only it did not.. 9, I went through this 4 times with them, with them giving me 4 new passwords, but it will still not work. 10, So i can sign into their site and access my mums email easily [the so called secondary account] but the primary one, appears to have gone I did find this, but do not understand it at all.. IF i had gmail or whatever, how does signing into that, go to look for my virgin emails anyway, and secondly seeing that the virgin address seems to have been blocked, there will be nothing there for it to find?? Seems to me like royal mail saying YES we will still deliver your mail, BUT, we will keep it at the sorting office and you will have to send DPD to come and get it for you, oh, yes, and we have ripped the labels off too and hidden your stuff.. I do not know where to start with any of this..
  23. Got to go to the hospital in a second, i will explain it all when i get back. Thanks ever so much for helping. john..
  24. I am up to 200 something or others now.. I never wanted or asked for it, they just did it.. john..
