  1. Thanks all for the help and advice. You lot are brilliant!!! john..
  2. Hi All, Yes, some of the the roots on the one side are already well rotted. The tree is due to come down because of this.. The crown of the thing looked to be fine, but, despite this, as the roots are damaged and there ARE targets that it would flatten, it is definitely coming down.. The fungus has only appeared in last 2 days, so it must be fungus growing season?? john..
  3. Hi All, What sort of fungus is this?? It is on the base and roots of a not very well, rather large, silver birch. Since fungus only lives [i think] on dead wood, the tree has obviously had it.. john..
  4. Wish i lived near you, would have the lot for firewood.. john..
  5. They used to show us films of that sort of stuff when i was in tech many many years ago. There were other films giving dire warnings of the danger of sticking an air line up ones bum too.. john..
  6. I know what you are saying.. It is the same with BS7671 [the wiring regs] They are not law, but compliance with them can be relied upon in a court of law in order to demonstrate compliance with such things as the electricity at work regs.. In the same way, the highway code is not law, for example, thre is no law that says you have to drive on the left, BUT, the highway code can be relied upon to create offences, in that, it states, "keep left" If you do not, and there is an accident, none compliance with the highway code will be sufficient evidence to create and offence, reckless or dangerous driving etc etc etc.. john..
  7. Ok, now i am no expert here VERY VERY far from it, but would not two separate systems attached to the SAME anchor, be plain stupid and pointless??? I cannot see it would acheive anything.. For one thing, i would think the weakest link would be the tree itself, the rope etc being strong enough to simply pull the tree over or break it in most cases i would think... Ok, it might help if you were to touch the rope suspending you with the saw, but i would imagine if you did that you would cut two [four??] ropes just as easily??? john..
  8. Where would i get a copy of the "rules" I suppose they are rooted in common sense and would be something to work towards?? Having said that, whilst i do not have two ropes, i always make sure i am tied in by more than one means unless i am actually going up or down, so would that count anyway?? john..
  9. Hi All, I am VERY much a beginner, and i can tell you that trying to operate TWO climbing systems at once, would be FAR too complicated for me.. It would be like sticking a car driver in a proper [not the modern rubbish] truck with no syncro, 13 speeds, a range change and a splitter. They would not get very far.. Besides, if it is only YOU at "risk" then the HSE rules do not apply to you anyway.. [just do not fall on a groundie] john..
  10. Thank you very much for helping!!! john..
  11. I was just hoping to learn more about the assessment of the condition of trees, bits that may be structurally unsound or other damage or faults and things to look out for, especially before you go climbing the things stuff like that.. john..
  12. Thanks Steve, I know very little about trees, [big bushy things] so i thought i might learn some more. I already have one Claus Mattheck book, the "stupsi explains the tree" one, i i learnt a lot from that.. So ii was hoping that i would learn lots more from the body language of trees one.. john..
  13. Hi All, Thinking of getting a copy of this book. Anyone got one?? What you all think?? john..
  14. Hi all, How much effect doies type of notch have on falling ratios??? Say i use an open face notch how much of a difference does this make?? Thanks all.. john..

No, what they had done, was to get pictures from someone's genuine website and used them in their advert, The saw was genuine as you say, the advert was not though.. Never knew there were fake saws about though?? Moral; Buy from a proper dealer like yourself.. john..

I saw a saw for sale on facebook, silly cheap.. I messaged and asked why so cheap. They said it was a loss leader to promote their business. I asked could i buy it and they said Yes!! and helpfully told me where to send the money and that as soon as they got it they would send the saw round... Great i said, do you want my address??? yes they said, so i sent them the address of the local police headquarters.. Never heard from them again, funny that.. john..
  18. I agree with everyone above. Look what it has done to the wall.. You house will be next.. Get it down, but do not say a word to anyone lest some treehugger tries to get the council to stop you. I would stuff it full of "ecoplugs" just to make sure it is going, no matter what.. john..
  19. And owing to restrictions being placed on the foundation area/depth by the LA it all fell down... john..
  20. Yes, like you said, if it suited them it would be different. Money talks too. If it were a big building firm and not just a bloke with a house the council would soon change their mind.. All this treehugging nonsense from councils winds me up no end, they should stick to what the are paid for, emptying bins and putting up street lights.. Good job we did not have councils 3000 years ago or we would still be living in caves, the making of huts having being prohibited.. john..
  21. Come on then PLEASE explain how removing kerbs and replacing them on the ORIGINAL bedding will affect tree roots that may [or may not] be underneath. john..
  22. To be honest, they are right royally taking the piss just showing off their power [and complete ignorance] If you installed a dropped kerb, WTF has that got to do with tree roots????? Try looking at a kerbing catalogue, the right hand and left hand ones taper down, and the centre ones are half the height... So, you could break out the haunching from what is already there, and bed your new kerbs back on the existing bedding, no need to go any deeper or anything. I suggest you send off for a catalogue and then go tell the twats they are full of shit and do not know what they are on about.. Here is a link to a suitable catalogue for you... http://www.rpcltd.co.uk/concrete-solutions/downloads/products/bs-kerb-data-sheet.pdf john..
