  1. Thanks very much Paul, that link is very helpful, much appreciated.
  2. Hope your nephew doesn't roll that and do the other shoulder in.
  3. Does anyone know of any Manual Handling Courses or quals that are related specifically to Arb and Forestry? We have lots of handling equipment but the boss would like to have everyone do some training. Haven't heard of anything suitable before and I wonder if it'll have to be more of an in-house training thing. Any thoughts appreciated.
  4. I've looked and wondered for a 3rd evening in a row and cannot see a design flaw, look forward to tomorrow when you end the suspense. They are a lovely looking step though, whatever the flaw turns out to be.
  5. Yes, I find I'm often behind a car driving erratically. I'd decided that the ones that lose speed for no apparent reason, drift around for a bit then go back to normal are using their mobile to text?
  6. Same here. Short, Velcro tops and strap bottoms. Velcro tops were a revelation for me.
  7. A lot depends what type of hedge, but on the whole I prefer reducing a big hedge to annual trimming. Method of choice if possible, is to walk along the middle cutting at waist height, 'felling' stuff over the side. Steer clear of ladders if I can, leaning to cut and then dragging the cuttings off from them is much harder work.
  8. Maybe they're just feeling a bit too woozy to be exactly on course... RAF news: Investigation after Red Arrow pilot ordered home for 'inappropriate behaviour' | UK | News | Express.co.uk WWW.GOOGLE.COM THE ROYAL AIR FORCE is reportedly investigating the Red Arrows after drinking allegations...
  9. I'd think that may be a case of @theSNP giving us the statistics "helpful" to their cause. From what I see myself in the Borders, hear on local news, and know from my mate who's been an equipment engineer for EA and Scottish Water, then Scotland is not treating the environment any better. Maybe we benefit from a less dense population, but they're still pumping untreated waste into watercourses repeatedly. The dry spell has shown River Tweed in a new light as there were a number of kids hospitalised after swimming so the state of things has become more public now.
  10. Was mentioned on the news this morning, they called it False Autumn. Apparently if there's enough rainfall there'll be a Second Spring, as the days are still long enough. UK drought: Why do the trees think it's autumn already? WWW.BBC.CO.UK Experts say the unusual weather has triggered a 'false autumn' as trees struggle to cope with drought.
  11. The man basket you built looks ideal for that, is the loader very stable to work from?
  12. Just last week I was informed by the younger lads at work that they'd decided about my long term exit strategy. When they decide I've become a forgetful codger that needs carried, they'll drop a lump of timber on my head and divvy up my possessions.
  13. Conveniently overlooking all the Arb businesses (including many Arb Approved Contractors) who choose not to employ people but instead use the scumbags as pretend subbies/freelancers.
  14. Threats are how these people operate, same as any Utility Company, Government/Council, TV Licence, it's the go to tactic. Years ago my boiler packed in, no cash to repair so went without. As it was the only Gas appliance my usage stopped, I told them I wouldn't be using Gas in the future. Years later I came home to a notice taped to the door, enforcement for non payment of thousands, they'd changed the meter due to me allegedly tampering with it. The threats escalated until eventually I responded asking for the Independent Laboratory Report to prove the meter was tampered with (which Gov. say they must provide before enforcement commences) and years later I've never heard a peep. If I'd of been worried by all their words and rolled over I'd have paid several thousand pounds just because they told me to. In the OP's case I'd not consider even discussing it until they have supplied Independent proof that my tree is causing the specific problem.
  15. Still got the original manual?
  16. Snow shovel is quite effective for scooping up Apples from the ground
  17. Claws need loler though.
  18. New climber out today.
  19. Another theory then, that Steve, subconsciously frustrated by a life of web design and DIY woodwork projects was sleepwalking one night, while dreaming of the big gun days removing a massive, dangerous roadside tree. A huge team, with traffic management in place, watching in awe as the gun for hire threaded an awkward fell between power lines whilst avoiding damage to the road and hedges. The crowd applauded, the bill was paid, and Steve awoke in the morning with mud on his knees and a black and decker jigsaw by the bedside, with an urge to walk down the road past the site of his earlier awesomeness...

  21. Could swear that's a quote from Karate Kid, Daniel son.
  22. Hit the fence he attached to it years ago so couldn't finish the lower cut, ended up going higher... Is the sign just stopping anyone falling over the props? Doesn't seem to be doing any supporting
  23. If you're going to go home and tell the wife, you've probably had enough Guinness already you stud!
  24. Quite like wearing type c on the windy winter days in Scotland but it's type a most of the year to stay cool. For 'c' I found Arbortec comfortable, had a few different Stihl ones (one of which was Flex I think) and they're tougher wearing I'd say.
  25. My mate sells for Volvo, tends to be in the top 3 UK salesman each year, says much the same as Mick's nephew. His "secret" is recognising the tyre kicker as they come through the door, and getting customers that don't need finance to take it anyway. One of his best stories was one day as a young salesman this guy pulled out the Vet car park opposite onto the forecourt in a wrecked old LR looking like a tramp. The other salesman melted away so he was left to chat. Half hr later the Duke of Roxburgh had his cheque book out to pay. For years after that he'd only deal with my mate, and now his son, the current Duke is the same.
