  1. I think the way to get better at climbing is to climb, if you're not getting the opportunity at work then try getting someone to go with you in your own time. You could offer to take down a rigging block at the end of a job, use your break to go up and down a stem on spikes...
  2. Could cover the whole franchise... dieback with a vengeance!
  3. Recently at work we've had a laugh with movie titles using Arb related words levered in to the title. Here's a few that came up, any other suggestions folks? The hunt for red karabiner. The spy who felled me. Lawnraker. Lumber jack city. A fistful of bullrope. Arb wars - revenge of the GRCS. Zigzaglander. X-ring men. Spruce almighty. Snow White and the 7 groundies. Arbpocalypse now. The groundsman's tale. Attack the rigging block. Arbpollo 13. Saws. And a special mention for former member CambridgeJC... Indiana Jones and the ivy of doom.

    Packing it in.

I could recommend training providers that wouldn't muck you around like that in the Dumfries or Edinburgh areas if travelling a little further is an option for you.
  5. Interesting little job this morning, removed a Douglas Fir from the Ettrick Water Footbridge in Selkirk. Current was strong after the recent deluge, could really feel it tugging at the valtra when winching, like having a huge fish on the line.
  6. Presumably it can be seen by staff, patients and visitors so is deemed to add amenity to the area? To answer your questions directly... I wouldn't just do it, it's unprofessional. You don't tell the Council, you apply for permission. They can say no. I don't know what happens if someone hangs themself after refusal for works. I wouldn't dwell on the rights and wrongs of the TPO existing John, speak to the Tree Officer and ask their opinion on the proposed work, it might not be an onerous task to get permission.
  7. Like the blue tongue I'm using just now with a zigzag.
  8. Trust you to kill the buzz man
  9. I can't read that without hearing it in Sean Connery's voice.
  10. Could have fun with that idea... For Sale, small pieces of fresh timber for temporary wildlife habitat pile. (PLEASE be careful as these pieces have the potential to become flammable in the mid to long term).
  11. I only ask as Jdon is north of the border.
  12. Does this apply in Scotland or only England?
  13. There was an invasion of threads about Ivy
  14. Yes there are members here who get timber as a result of being a registered tip site so it's worth it. Keep in mind though, anything you get will be green wood so would need to be seasoned before use.
  15. I saw a documentary once where people were suggesting they could hear a humming from wind farms if there are any around you.
  16. Mine was 2wks with a demolition company. Turned up and the foreman gave me helmet, gloves, glasses, a sledgehammer and wrecking bars, said go in that block of flats and smash all the baths and basins then throw them out a window, was awesome!
