  1. Thanks Khriss, just heard mixed reviews from the electronic side of things!
  2. Potentially looking at a Vermeer BC200 xl this week and wondered if anyone had any experience with them or vermeer chippers in general? build quality, reliability etc Cant find a great deal online, 8" capacity, 1.4t and that's about it. They have bring out a newer model in the BC200 that looks good. Any info appreciated!
  3. Currently looking for a competent climber to help with work load and jump on bigger jobs to ease work load when required. NPTC qualifications CS 30, 31, 38, and 39 required. Start at 7:30 am from our yard and usually finished 3:30pm. Majority of work in South Bucks but also cover Rickmansworth, Watford etc All nice domestic work, tend to stay on 1 job a day and not trying to rush round 6 small jobs a day. Good bunch of lads to work with, good atmosphere and up to date equipment. Contact on here or via 07841620442.
  4. I agree with this but the majority of the work we're doing is domestic so the diggers wouldn't be effective and grain trailer a bit overkill. The avant tends to cover most of the jobs where we have access to the back garden even if its just bringing the brash/timber to the gate to shorten the drag, saves alot of time and back ache. Think i'm best waiting a few months and investing in my boys and getting them competent in climbing/rigging then building from there with additional groundsman. In the mean time ill price the work i want and keep an eye out for a larger capacity chipper. I've only been in the tree game just over a year and going at 100mph so will just hold tight a while and see what the repercussions of covid are before going any bigger and going balls deep with mog, merlo, bandit... Ha. Appreciate all the feedback, defiantly food for thought!
  5. Yes would be the plan, would turn 2 day jobs with 3 men into 1. Would definitely up efficiency. Yes will take a while to to find the right people!
  6. I'd probably get another 150 in all honesty. Cheap to buy, easy to fix/service yourself, covers 90% of domestic work and can get most parts next day. Saves spending out on a more expensive new machine or having monthly payments. But agree with running another subbie and being able to rest from climbing.
  7. That's the problem and 100% fair enough starting their own gig. Currently the team we have is brilliant my brother and a school friend. Both 110% reliable, trustworthy and brilliant with customers. Ideal situation would be myself running 1 team and brother the other so i know that the standard of work is being kept high! Exactly what i was thinking of doing, finding a 2/3 man team that want extra work or can jump on bigger jobs with us. Only problem is most of them think they're worth £1200 a day. It's just like finding good staff, few and far between.
  8. 2 transits, 1 ranger tipper, tipping trailer, tw 150, bandit sg40 and avant 4 series. Would like to think with 1 more chipper and booking jobs in correctly the equipment will cover 2 teams. Booked 3-4 weeks in advance 😴
  9. As per title thinking about putting another 2/3 man team together to keep up with work coming in and just wondered on peoples experiences with this. We're currently a 3 man team and tend to run around 3-4 weeks ahead of ourselves and find people don't want to wait longer than this so we either lose the work or i just don't quote smaller jobs that i know we wont get round to or want to do, fruit trees, small hedging jobs, overhanging branches etc. I know all these jobs add up but we never seem to get a day/afternoon free to get through the little jobs that come in. We do spend a fair bit on advertising to ensure the work is there and get enough enquiries to cover 2 teams, would just need to be more competitive on the pricing to win more of the work and not price what we want and over price what we don't. So the question is, is it worth the hassle? finding decent staff that are reliable, polite and most importantly do a good job etc. Extra kit, chipper, saws, climbing, rigging kit, uniform, ppe. All opinions welcome!
  10. Hi guys/girls, -As per title, Bandit sg-40 for operated hire. Stumps can be done on a day rate or per stump, guards always used, can bring boards to protect customers lawn also. -Avant 420 with KLOU log grab. Just over a metre wide so brilliant for the larger domestic jobs, lifts around 350-400kg with the grab fitted. Really speeds jobs up saving ringing up and dragging brash to the chipper. We also have around 80 - 86m of boarding to protect lawns. Will be operated by myself or one of the boys, all very polite and well presented. Any questions drop me a message or text/call 07841620442 Thanks, Ben.
  11. Haven't pulled the trigger just yet. Just found them for 78.25 inc, cheapest i've seen so far.
  12. thanks for the input. Have gone for 9mm stokboard, 3000mmx1500. Solway Products | Stokbord Black 9mm thick 3000mm x 1500mm WWW.SOLWAYRECYCLING.CO.UK Solway products stokbord Stokbord Black 9mm thick 3000mm x 1500mm
  13. hi, Just wondered what people are using for ground protection from avants, tracked grinders etc. Don't really want to use ply and have to replace soon. Have seen 9mm stokboards that look okay but may be a bit flexible? Any recommendations would be great! would need to be over 4 foot wide as don't want to be within a few mm each side of the machine. thanks.
  14. i Have a 1300 for sale if your interested? only selling due to getting a tow behind. Great little machine, ideal for getting into rear gardens and is surprisingly capable!
  15. hello mate, these aren't to bad of a job. passenger side is a bit more of a fiddle than the drivers from memory, used to get them done in 3/4 hours. if you can get your hands on an electric ratchet it will save you hours! you can get away with leaving the front timing cover on and just releasing the area of the rocker cover but it is a bit of squeeze. Injectors don't normally seize up on those so should be okay, will just need a bit of levering. i would get some new injector bolts though as they're stretch bolts so one use only and only tighten up to 8/10NM from memory. good luck, just remember to check nothing has dropped in the head before fitting new gasket and that the new gasket is sat flat!
  16. Looking to buy an msa 161 T soon and wondered if anyone knew if there will be a new model soon? Seems to have been out for a while and with husqvarna putting new ones out didn't know if stihl will also! Don't want to buy the 161 to have a newer version out in a month or two! Any feedback on the electric top handle saws appreciated! Thanks.
  17. You can get some very early d4's with the 2.7 and i believe they changed the oil pump to try and rectify the crank issue on the later 3l But yes they definitely still go bang!
  18. worked at a land rover specialist for several years when i was a mechanic and i would steer clear of the disco 3 and early disco 4's with the 2.7 engine. i think they rectified issues on the 3.0. i done countless snapped cranks, timing belt tensioners splitting from the block, egr's, turbos, air compressors, suspension bushes etc etc etc id personally look at a d2, could pick up a decent one for 4k. land cruisers probably a fair bit more than that but they're 3.0l straight six engines are bulletproof.
  19. evening, Recently done my tickets and tend to work weds, thurs and friday doing light tree work, gardens, hedges etc. through out the summer and later part of year we're busy with our hedge cutting customer base but whilst it's quiet looking to gain more experience in tree work. I hold cs30,31,38,39 and chipper ticket. have all safety kit, climbing and saws etc. really not fussed about what i'm doing weather its feeding a chipper or climbing just want to gain some extra experience in the field. i have limited experience but hands on and mechanically minded. located in buckinghamshire but happy to travel, any more info drop me a message on her or text/call 07841620442
  20. I was thinking make a box that fits between the 2 side wheel arch/stepped bits that is the the same size as the rear door opening. So basically a rectangle with the door end open so that it is all sealed to avoid the cab being covered in chip. Will also need to pull the box onto something to avoid the rear tipping up and smashing into the roof on it's exit. I think wheelie bine will just take up too much room and even fitting a second in would be a tight squeeze if possible at all when full. Maybe using the skinny ones but then how much can you fit in just 2? Also at the door end maybe have the top angled down (as per my very rough drawing) so that i can still get my saw harness etc in the back to the side. Or just use the roof rack to put equipment on! Just need to figure out what to make it of so that it is strong enough to pull out but light enough to lift in! Maybe more trouble than its worth but would be handy for smaller jobs! Maybe just buy a pick up 130 ? *not my 110, just for reference*
  21. I have a 110 van type and wanted to build some form of wood chip catching box in the rear so i dont need to take 2 vehicles and a trailer for smaller jobs. Idea is to remove rear glass and fab some kind of panel that will open then some form of box that will run in the central part of the boot to catch the chips. Then have a couple of eyelets so once back at the yard i can attatch to a pole drive off and all the chip is pulled out with the box/tray. Thoughts??
  22. It is northern arb supplies and i didn't want to name them straight away as i wondered if anyone else would suggest it was them first, backing up my views on there customer service. There can't be a come back from naming the supplier, i just didn't want to name shame straight away, but they've had more than enough chances to rectify the issue now so im not really fussed. Companys claiming to have stock they dont have seems pretty rife in this industry as this isnt the first time I've had the issue, but nothing has gone on this long!
  23. Not the only person to have had issues then, saying that i met someone on a refresher course that has had similar issues to myself! They way they've dealt with it currently is shite so judgement cant really go up from here now! They have selective hearing with emails and only reply when they want to. They'll avoid sending tracking numbers even though the parcel has 'definitely' been sent days prior, then turns up with 24hour post ? I'll carry on getting in touch and see what happens, still waiting for 1 more item to complete the order..
  24. Hi! Recently (7 weeks ago) ordered a climbing kit from a arb supplier. Paid straight away as expected and told item was in stock. It has now taken 6 or 7 seperate deliveries to get all components of the kit and still missing 1. I've also had to ring after each an every delivery to point out what is missing and then it still being delivered wrong after pointing out the component by name and by photo on there site I wouldn't have minded if it was a week or 2 late but it is beyond a joke now. Also been told i would be contacted by the manager several times and that hasn't happened either. Getting to the point where I'm embarrassed to ring up and rectify the issue. Any opinions? A Known dealer with a '5 star' google review...
