  1. Brewdog are going to dig a big lake in the middle of, turn it into a seal sanctuary, then club them all to death.
  2. Ah, it's a 200m laneway, not a drive, and it was chosen because it was 30% the cost of a load of quarry stone! We could only get 8 loads unfortunately, everything else had been spoken for. I'll get some pictures of it later, when I get home, but it's just your average country lane... grass starting to grow in the middle, a few potholes in it after we had to dig the water pipe in next to it... We hope to put a thin layer of quarry dust or something on top of the whole 200m of it at some stage, it isn't top of the To Do list right now though.
  3. That's mental. I'll have to look into the process a little more, I wonder why galls specifically. You'd be awfully dependent on the whims of nature for your ink harvest... I suppose ink was priced accordingly. Ah, that must be why printer ink is so expensive! They still use traditional oak gall production methods!
  4. About a 3rd of my lane is road planings, made three years ago, great stuff. I tried to get some more recently, last year, and it seems impossible... it is now all "contaminated waste" and has to go through the correct channels. Might be the same story where you are.
  5. I saw one fella saying whole little towns had been destroyed, he thinks it's " Katrina-level" stuff.
  6. People stew pork in Coca-Cola. Could work with a partridge. Oh, you mean to drink, not to cook with. Sorry, no further suggestions.
  7. What openspaceman is saying is that when someone mills it, they might find fencing staples embedded in it, as farm and estate trees often have these, and other buried treasure, and occasionally a dark blue hue staining the timber as a result; and other undesirable physical attributes.
  8. Bought a 345 off someone a few years ago, he accidentally (or maybe on purpose... who knows?) put a new 1.5 chain on a nearly new 1.3 bar, they did not work happily together. Had to swap it out straight away. Couldn't comment on how much wear and tear they'd need before they match, but I wasn't bothered about finding out.
  9. Ah right, I don't know if all those laminate flooring systems are similar, but you'd not have much joy trying to poke the one we've done half the house in under a skirting board, it needs some wiggle room. By the sounds of it, new skirting board would be my choice.
  10. Ah no, it's brand new skirting board, first time on the wall. I was just taking 6mm off the door and architrave around it, we didn't know what floor would be going down when we had the doors done. Would you really need to do either of the options you describe, would you not cope with the skirts being slightly higher? Or is three a load of fitted furniture or something? Depending on the cost, I'd probably try ripping the needed height off the old skirting board and refitting it, don't know if it would be worth the time/value of reusing it, but I like doing things like that anyway...
  11. What toy is that?
  12. Doing the last room in the new house today, the 5yr old son's bedroom. Floor just finished (I did the OSB subfloor, she did the laminate clikclak on top), and I've taken 6mm off the bottom of the door and the architrave legs. Doing the skirting board now, whilst she paints some snowy caps on the blocky mountainscape she'd already painted a little while ago. Next up: a bunk bed shaped like a castle, with drawbridge, portcullis, dungeon, and slide.

Okay, well I just told that to Oscar, but he still doesn't seem thrilled at the prospect of losing his in December.

Jesus... what was the other dog doing to him?! I wish Igor all the best with his recovery, and I just know that the trials ahead you both face will only strengthen your relationship.
  15. Wild camping, it'll push the right buttons for the wanderlust, but it won't cover the social side you are missing unless you go with other people too.
  16. Understood, I meant the rope as well though, my current flip line is shorter than that... but there aren't any trees big enough to need anything longer. In fact, Maxd, would you send me that snippet you're about to cut off? It'd actually be an upgrade for me...
  17. Whatever you've got the stamina for, I suppose. Location would be key for this method to work against slugs though. Be careful you don't crush your radishes. Any nosey neighbours?
  18. Recommend trying to control slugs using methods that won't render your soil incapable of supporting life. Encourage frogs, hedgehogs, songbirds into your garden. Consider ducks.
  19. As Mark says, cut it and tie it back on, barrel knot would be my choice, but unlike Mark I'd keep using it for another three or four trims. CE mark is at the far end, is it? Would LOLER be a problem with a quick fix? Might be less hassle to just buy a new one, but that's a lot of hardware going to waste.

  24. Should grow both, then you'd just need a chutney plant and you'd be all set 👍
  25. Good morning. The cat came home at 0200 screaming his head off, soaked in some kind of fuel. Probably diesel. Clearly asking for help, and being relatively placid throughout the ordeal, but still dealing with the occasional feline urge to fight-or-flight. So I do have a few new scratches, but nothing quite so bad as the last time I won a bout of cat wrestling against a feral, and nearly lost the hand. Anyway. After thorough scrubbing he still smells of it. Not sure how much he would have ingested during his own attempts at grooming. Might get the vet involved, I'm going to check on the patient now. Hope your days involve fewer angry cats than mine. Edit to add a photo of the poor wee thing. Edit 2: Hmm, my left index finger, which has a few puncture wounds in it, is starting to heat up a little. I'll keep an eye on it, but I won't be impressed if this one needs a week in hospital too.
