  1. Thanks kind sir and the best of luck tomorrow stubby
  2. The oak will not be the same if oiled at 15% Never get the best out of that grain on andys bed if treated now
  3. My sander guys
  4. It wont rot the wood its just the best way to leave it dry out and it will be like iron when fully dry and then oil and the grain effects will be amazing ?
  5. This method of dowel joints is called draw boring andy 1) Drill the hole through the post first 2) Insert the tennon joint together and mark the centre of the dowel on the tennon 3) off set that by 2 mm as mentioned by our pals 4) When inserting the dowel make sure you put a shamfer on the one dowel end so it clears the entry if that makes sense
  6. Yes andy just leave it for 12 months buddy as it will dry out a hell of a lot more and it needs the air to get at it ,It will spoil the whole thing if you stain/wax it to soon
  7. Great to be talking my end of work now on here,You lads are all tree cutters (woodmen) I am joiner/carpenter time served and the arb side was always something i did as a young man,Old saying foot on the other shoe on this subject ? Watch out for your fingers andy ?
  8. Do not panel pin oak andy as they will rust and stain the wood
  9. Just let it dry out steve and it will,Then apply the finish on it.Take 12 months now to totally dry out
  10. If you are going to strip the headboard apart then do not glue them,I would dowel right through each leg so they can just be tapped out later on (dry fit) Looking where your finger is centre the dowels and come down a 1/3 top and bottom and you will get away using 2 dowel pins on each tennon.
  11. If you plan on stripping it apart later just glue the tennons internal,How are you planning on making up the centre to take the mattress ??
  12. Looking at your pictures andy really speaking each tennon needs 3 dowels on each joint due to the width of the timber, 1/4 down top/bottom and one centre. Dowel joints are the most traditional way in thousands of years of woodworking so will look great on the eye. Use a cascamite glue on your joints
  13. Do as mentioned andy and the dowels will look great as that is how the older way of woodworking was done,You need to dowel those joints mate or they will shrink at 15% moisture i can promise you ?
  14. Dowel the tennon joints andy as 15% will keep drying
  15. Not a lot to ask for really is it
  16. HANDBAGS (HAVE A FIGHT) OR A DUEL TO THE DEATH ?
  17. What size logs (width) are you looking lifting as i have 2 bespoke made for me,Will take some photos for you if needed
  18. Sorry we cannot help james and thanks for the reply
  19. Evening guys,Been out having a quiet few beers with mike my one partner,He operates a 16 ton grab wagon (2019) plate which is kitted up with a hiab and stone grapple bucket as he is contracting to various firms (waterboard contracts) ect. He covers most of south wales M4 and the valleys on a daily basis and is excellent on times when arranged.Mike has some free days coming up over the next 2 months which are flexable if needed,What he is looking for is back loads from one job to his next as nothing like an empty wagon not earning a buck. I mentioned that i would post on here and if anyone arb firms/lads are looking for help to move big cut timber in our area please feel free to contact me on 07816599502 thanks les Reason for posting this is one of our members (roseyweb) james has posted 3 times looking for same help,Mike has a timber grab and could have picked up in one load what james was looking for Wood in Lincoln
  20. Should be able to adapt it quite easily as would only be an aluminium section crossbar or upright
  21. Would something like this do the job just need to check what sizes are available DEUBA Aluminium Greenhouse Polycarbonate Large Garden Glass House
  22. Think you have answered your own question there (polytunnel) discreet ??? which they are as used for gardening 95% of the time and nobody batters an eyelid,Just make sure its well vented
  23. Do another big poly tunnel and just put a good vent system into it to keep the condensation to a minimum
  24. First of all grade all your timber into piles/cubes stacked Timber is priced by the m3 or by the lxbxw in sizes Seasoned or green (unseasoned) State what timber you have available Good guide is to look on the local sawmill websites for prices in your area I charge £30 an hour if milling for a customer plus blade wear If you have beams available they tend to be sold by the foot not metric sizes As for grading timber i think that comes down to experience more than anything
  25. Thats what i worry about,Thought it was next tuesday until the doctors phoned this evening as was going to have 10 days off it to be sure,Put it off once as got drunk a month ago when last one was booked
