  1. "hard to tip someone out if they don't want to go". So many questions. The paddle looks similar to some stilts I made for The boys from pallet stringers.
  2. Banning adverts is all well and good but if it is available regardless, people will buy them. Look at smoking and vaping, no adverts but still happens. Education is the key to a lot of things, start young and keep at the education till the end of school and beyond and with luck they will have the knowledge to make 'good' choices (healthier food is often also cheaper than processed ready meals). However 18 years of targeted education is beyond the dreams of any politicians fix in a sound bite desires.
  3. You're right - a matter of scale, I thought 2 were crammed onto an armchair!!
  4. The requested synopsis of his speech plus a couple of links for background information. Every little helps.
  5. No, you posted an image but not a link to the article - I've told you before that I could knock up images on photoshop all day long to emphasise any political agenda I want. Most forum members manage to post links.
  6. School boy error, sorry.
  7. Looking at bare statistics, since 2020 the number of illegal immigrants into the US apprehended and kicked out has rocketed (they are doing more of that under Biden than under Trump), and the total number of illegal immigrants in the US is less than there were when Trump left office (2nd link). The rest of the mans speech is mostly anecdotal from his experience and not backed up by any firm statistics but suggests that the 'legal' illegal immigrant population are being controlled by (foreign) criminal gangs. He does cite 2 or 3 cases out of the 10 million immigrants in the US which is a tiny portion so needs really to show the significance and total numbers.... which I doubt he has.... speech style is very much of the Trump play book, almost written by him. Border crossing encounters U.S. 1990-2023 | Statista WWW.STATISTA.COM The number of illegal border crossings reached an all-time high in 2022, with over 2.2 million migrant encounters registered by the U.S. Border Patrol. 8. Usually there is something that goes wrong between grand idea and implementation even if the grand idea is great. it never quite works out right
  9. Context MesterH... assuming you arn't continuing 'where were we September 11' theme with SpaceX and aircraft flying into buildings and stuff (unless I missed some news), or a conspiracy type theory that Elon Musk had something to do with that.. but that 'making the news today' is they have had a billionaire doing a private space walk today?
  10. I'll have to check with my pest controller next time he comes past but I think his preference is traps and only shoots deer, but not sure what traps he has for what animals. Not sure what he does after he has trapped them though
  11. anecdotal evidence of course, but firewood cut and delivered in the winter dries quicker than that cut in the summer
  12. Her logs I suspect (well, his)
  13. Seen a lot of Transits sitting round the corner - a fabrication place - cab and wheelbase only, so I guess adding the back is a modification to how it came out the factory - tipper, flat bed or whatever. They might argue that adding a 'load' that is semi-permanent in the form of plywood boards and a frame is a modification too, unless you remove it (and show it is removed) regularly. What is their position if you weld / bolt a tool chest on a flat bed / tipper? It will only come out as not covered if they have to pay out some money, I'd guess that a pull by the police will show "insured"... unless you are pushing the weight limit (see that thread) they probably won't check on sides. I'd perhaps look for the cost you want to pay / cover you want to pay for and then give them a call to confirm all is OK and to record what you said with an e-mail confirmation from you or them. Loads of trucks with sides on them and not everyone pf them will be driving about hoping for not too many questions asked. Not quite the same but insured the car, added business miles and the cost went down - business miles from the house were less and quieter times then the morning commute every day. You never know you might get lucky like that (though be surprised if you do!)
  14. Yes, he was but with a west country accent so didn't get the voice of Darth Vader
  15. Hmmm.... good luck with that one... all it takes is a bad year or summer where you don't get to trim it as you might want to and it will be huge.
  16. Just pricing up a van! A bit far for me but would be tempted even if I was making a loss for my time in cutting, splitting and drying.
  17. On my apple trees I read that the ants are not there damaging the tree but feeding on aphids that are feeding on the tree. Not sure if the same applies to maples or if the ants like to eat it
  18. Just a thought, if the tree is hung up and over the line - power line or BT - won't they come and clear it if you tell them of problem? Not sure on this one and if there is a charge to the land owner. As above, the pole owner generally leaves a mark on it - BT I have seen carved in and electrical as above with the danger of death notices.
  19. Neither confirmed nor denied my opinion of Blair. Read my words again, you will see this. I was highlighting, for your convenience your double standards, either Tony Blair is evil in all his actions, including the winter fuel payments, or he is not evil in all his actions and some of what he did was actually OK. Same with all Prime ministers in fact, some good, some bad. As for your last copy and paste, again your double standards coming to the fore. A moment ago it was Starmer, lord of evil taking away the winter fuel payments, now Starmer is exonerated and it is Reeves who is taking away the fuel payments. Make your mind up!! Head is spinning now.
  20. Yes, Tony Blair and his shitty winter fuel payments..... Only saying....
  21. He's lasted longer than Liz Truss so maybe not going to happen
  22. I just find it incredulous that you need to highlight to a bunch of reasonably intelligent people that prime ministers talk to their predecessors like it is a new thing, a big surprise, almost as if it is a surprise to you. So I'll ask again, did you really really only start reading the news 5 years ago? Just wondering where in my words I was defending Tony Blair. Maybe that was all in your head, have you been drinking again?
  23. Did you really really only start reading the news 5 years ago? All former prime ministers generally get advice from previous ones, particularly from the same side of the house. The exceptions being the last years as the Conservatives publicly pulled themselves apart with Prime Ministers who couldn't stand the previous ones (and with similar mutual respect going the other way). Likewise world wide the same happens, look to the US as another example where Biden and Obama frequently chat, and back each other - Obama is also backing Harris.
  24. actually you might have sold me on the chocolate thing
  25. So a best solution might be something that the tree won't damage?
