  1. The longest single head bar I know of are the 84” from GB and 84” cannon bar. And if the 881 will pull a full comp 84” then the 090 will be fine. Skip and hyper skip are best for long bars. If only to reduce sharpening times!🤣 (And reduce mechanical stresses). Any photos of your collection? [emoji106]
  2. Interesting, I’ll give you a buzz later this evening to discuss if that’s ok? [emoji106]
  3. I don’t own a spud ported saw, yet. But I have used many of them belonging to other arbtalkers. I’m not particularly mechanically minded, So I can’t tell you how he does it... But spud ported saws are mental!!! Absolutely fantastic!!! (And I test big pre production chainsaws for various companies). [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  4. Red garnets can be found in Devon. Sticklepath to be precise. Used to hunt in the old garnet tailing piles as a kid. [emoji106]
  5. Yiu could just get a cheap Chinese mill, supports both ends of the bar. [emoji106]
  6. Yep. Chain tensioning is a pain. [emoji106]
  7. Yes... But if you re-tension when you’ve warmed the chain up before milling, Then when you leave it to cool it will over tension itself, widening the rivet play and pulling on both sprockets... [emoji106]
  8. Hi Craig Might be able to help. 07376803384 Give me a call tomorrow [emoji106]
  9. And there’s a lot of small scale millers all over wales... [emoji848][emoji106]
  10. Don’t know the speed of contraction, But chains cool quickly, minutes to seconds.. To test, take your chain off and feel for play in the rivets. Worse possible scenario, it bends the crank shaft.
  11. 50”-86” max? No way. You can go much wider. If your depth gauges are set around 0.7-0.8mm You could pull 100” no problem. The deep power stroke on the 090 is like nothing else. On 50” wood an 880/881 will paste an 090. But on huuuge wood the 090 is king. With hyper skip chain you could do 120” easily. [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  12. You’ve got a spud ported 090???? Photos pleeeeeeease! 🤣[emoji106]
  13. Direct from the forest... Saw logs 18”+ 11’ Processor logs 6”-18” Firewood Branch logging Wood chip Or... Mill it !!! Becomes many times more valuable! Then can be dried fairly quickly. Then it’s even more valuable!!! And desirable. Firewood and chip should be your last resort! [emoji106]
  14. Had quite a long chat, guy knew his stuff. Turns out, they make bars for other big companies. I agreed not to name names. There aren’t any manufacturing problems with the 3/8LP. As has been said previously it’s a delicate bit of kit compared to many other mill set ups. It comes down to personal preference. I’m brutish with my kit, that’s why I use tank grade .404 [emoji106] My knees don’t bend mate. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣[emoji106]
  15. Good post [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  16. Check the compression on your 090. I’ve just done a 50”+ ash with 84” bar and full comp .404 with the 881. An 090 should walk that, (at 6krpm) [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  17. Three seasons in Alaska!!!! And BC!!! Only slightly jealous.[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  18. Just got off the phone with GB in Australia. No problems with the nose sprockets or chains. It’s precision kit, highly refined. Leaves a clean finish. [emoji106]
  19. Never been flown into a job... yet 🤣[emoji106] Nowhere in the uk is really that remote? I have lived in the woods with one saw for a bit. Can understand the mistrust of auto tune, but in my experience it’s bloody fantastic. [emoji106] Where were you working? (Sounds fun) [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]
  20. How often have you had to tune a saw in the woods? [emoji106]
  21. That’s a slight ripple. Yes it is expensive, but only if it’s big enough for production. Ie table size, or guitar size etc. [emoji106]
  22. Any photos of the slabs? [emoji106]
  23. Are you selling the logs or slabs? Where are you based? [emoji106]
  24. A 661 will walk all over a 660. Everyday. Unless you’re called@wonky He got a 660 to out cut a 661. Do I need to post videos? [emoji106]
