Totally agree the socket for the stop is not man enough for the winch to be mounted on, the option I used was one size of box section for the socket and the next size down or whatever it was at the steel stockist that would fit inside it. The pics tell the story I guess. The plates are welded to chassis and the socket is welded at a slight angle. That could easily be modified to be a bolt on affair if welding to the chassis was not an option. The one in the pics is a mk1 version but the principle is all the same. Yeah the ramps are a bit beefy but it’s what I had at the time and as the saying goes better to be looking at it than for it ( strength in this case ) humour aside in reality the whole trailer and set up is probs a bit over engineered.

Possibly yeah as agrimog has said. But on the other hand mine is levelled on a series of bolts welded to the chassis itself, this allows me to tweak the rails if required. Because of that I made sockets for the ramps that take a vertical extension on the underside of the ramp these are welded direct to chassis so no load on rails. The winch mounting arm fits in a socket welded to chassis too as I was not keen on relying on the set up woodlands use. Probs worrying for nothing but hey ho. For general day to day use in reality I’d say that the rails will take the ramps no probs. The reasoning for the heavier set up on mine is I know that it’s main work load initially will consist of oversize Douglas fir which is bloody heavy at this time of year. As for welding mines not perfect either and some days I just ain’t got the patience lol. One thing worth doing is get a little bit of tuition off someone whom knows what they are doing it’s worth it big time. A decent welder helps massively, I use a Lincoln 185 mig set up running on a 32amp circuit with a slow fuse.

That trailer certainly looks robust enough Andy to take the type of bracket I put on mine. Be a shame to compromise the galvo like. The bolt on bracket idea is probs best for sure. I was using a clogger with some climbing rope when doing it manually, very easy to pull up as you go up to act as a safety mechanism to stop the whole lot coming back at you.

That set up in the pic cost very little Andy. I’m gonna weld some small bars/ridges on ramps and pull with a small bridle to stop logs sliding off centre. But yeah I will agree hand balling can catch you out quickly if you are not careful.

Hi good to talk about something other than bloody politics ? No the trailer was just fag packet engineered to tell truth bud. The leg issue was sorted with a bit of fabrication as per pic, no big hassle just an annoying oversight on the day. Not sure what you mean by tight fit ?? But if you mean 6 legs instead of 4 then I always tend to over spec stuff ?♂️. I see what you mean ref hydraulic lifter and angles etc for rams but I guess the woodmizer lifter is pretty similar too. The hydraulic side of things are on hold due to work and loads of other commitments etc etc. I made the ramps and winch set up in pics using an old superwinch s2500 I had lying around for around £150 so for now it will do. The limiting factor when cutting is me as I’m often stopping and measuring etc to get most out of the log, the ability to look at and read a log so to speak is I guess a skill learned.

Nope you are right we probs won’t agree and judging by all you wrote most people would tend to class you as pro snp and independence. Can’t really be arsed to debate anything to tell truth as Ive just come off a 13 hr night shift, for which I have the pleasure of giving 41% plus NI of it to our wonderful devolved parliament, substantially more than the English guys on the same team I might add but at least I know the SNP will spend it wisely ??
-
Madness Unlimited uncontrolled immigration, total legislative control from Europe etc etc etc forced acceptance of the Euro. I could go on and on but it won’t matter no doubt. Solution for me is already in the planning stages. Shame as me the mrs and kids are happy where we are but I will not be staying put if you’re dream scenario materialises.

SNP has been in in power with a devolved parliament for how long ??? So I’d say the opportunity to keep blaming others is getting less and less. Not interested in what conservatives got as they are not trying to break up the union plus I live in Aberdeenshire. The SNP landslide is still not even half the vote !!. As for a referendum soon, me personally I’d much rather politicians buggered off and just done what they are paid too for a little while, I’m tired of votes and referendum etc. Funny how opinions differ as nearly everyone I know or work with has no time for SNP or indyref 2, how do you know it’s a economic suicide pact ????? Staying within the EU is not helping Scotland or anyone else in the long run. What is this niche you talk of ???. Sturgeon had said she wants higher immigration etc etc all that benefits is big business not our young people. Tories in Westminster are you kidding I’d say the opposition including the SNP have tried overwhelmingly to derail it from day one. We are not going to agree on much you are obviously pro independence I am a unionist. The opinion of you’re relative the economist type is irrelevant, I was always told those who can do it, those who can’t teach it, there is a strong group of SNP support coming from the likes of those in the face book screen grabs I put up. As for the certainty with which you think the vote would go south of border. Well I’d disagree as based upon years of personal experience I’d say there is far more anti English rhetoric from Scots than anti Scottish from the English. Sturgeon and the sharp tongue of hers is responsible for generating a whole load of negativity and not much else. Do not confuse Westminster with the rest of the uk.
-
Afraid it won’t shut them up Andy. Sturgeon and the likes won’t ever stop. What happens next I wonder !!! Are we gonna be in the realms of the English one as Mull describes me being on the receiving end of this state sponsored/ promoted bile. You’ve met me Andy I’m not bothered about myself and I’m more than happy to meet anyone of those illiterate bastards face to face but I also have two young kids up here in the shire as one of those SNP supporters calls it. I don’t have a shooting estate or a big house on England neither as you know, I spend months away doing 100hr weeks to support my family and pay my bills. Do I have to wait for the day the kids come home saying they are getting stick because I’m from Northumberland???. SNP and sturgeon would be well advised to tone down the rhetoric and concentrate on the day job
-
Just an example of the Anti English shit promoted by rabid SNP bullshit. Those were screen grabs of a face book chat my mrs had came across. Whilst I’m well aware of the propensity for keyboard warriors to go to town the level of bile directed at anyone whom dares disagree is pretty disgusting and quite frankly this is the SNP target audience. To be honest if this is the future direction of Scotland then maybe a move south is no bad thing.
-
It obviously does Andy I had the misfortune to watch that arrogant prick Hosie on sky this morning twisting numbers to claim 80% of the seats meant that they had a clear mandate for indyref 2 apparently the 4th time they have won said mandate. The often quoted once in a generation by Salmond was according to Hosie just a sound bite !!!. Also Scotland according to his views has balanced its books on every budget and any debt it has is because it’s part of the uk ??? The arrogance and edge on the guy was disgusting and it’s blatantly obvious they see the election result as a green light to do what they want regardless of the numbers ie less than half the electorate having voted SNP. I just wish they would get on with running the country and doing the job they are paid to do.

The factory extension is worth it I’d say, Ive done a lot of fabrication on mine and did consider making my own but the benefits of the factory extension is that as has been said everything is compatible and you get the extra dogs etc. For me I’d say save yourself a chunk of hassle and buy the woodlands one.
-
Couple of things Andy New much bigger log store that I want to build and looking to extend the roof to create a larger overhang on a cabin I have in the garden. The remainder I’ll just try and process up into beams and planks and store them under cover, the offcuts get used for the log burner so no waste. I need to get my finger out as it’s not doing it any favours being left lying outside.
-
Nothing glamorous, just plodding away at the Douglas, knocked up a decent amount of 5x5, 6x3 and 6x1 beams and planks. Quite a few are too big for the mill so it’s back to the Alaskan for those. Tried it yesterday with winch for first time ??night and day difference, only wish I’d fitted it earlier.
-
Cheers anyway Got a sketch and a wats app video over to my mate in Inverness he is gonna knock some up on the plasma cutter, I’ll put some pics up once they are done. Current temp set up is pretty robust and will do the trick for now hopefully

Hi Mark you using the factory trailer ??
-
Well if they are anything like those and you have no use for them let me know
