  1. Two different sizes approx 600x600 and 400x400, first ones are probs biggest I’ve seen on a removal job in years. All the sections above the tidal range are in excellent condition.
  2. Loads of options at the moment to think of in regards best route to take for a return, whatever comes from the timber will be a bonus as the job is basically payment for extraction of what’s there and keep the piles so zero cost on the timber itself. Ive cut plenty of these off at bed level using a Dan arm air powered saw and know what a bugger they are to deal with. As I said the tops have never been submerged but obviously have taken waves and spray etc over the years. End of the day it would be good to see it get re used rather than ending up scrapped or burnt.
  3. Luckily the upper parts of the piles (6-7m) that are out of the tidal range are clean and essentially attachment or nail free. Milling it might be a challenge as all I have is the 130 woodlands and an 880 Alaskan set up. I’m sure the choice of blade is important !! I’ll happily take guidance on that.
  4. No probs Andy if it comes off I’ll put some aside no probs.
  5. Hi All. Might be getting the chance to get hold of a substantial quantity of Purple and Green Heart piles. I’m aware of the issues regarding milling/cutting such a hard wood etc but just curious if anyone has any knowledge of the value and markets out there for it. Cheers
  6. External Les, cabin will have large overhangs and some decent preservatives applied to the timber. It’s on an elevated base on a slope so air flow will be good around and under it.
  7. Les is probably considering the seasonal movement with timber beams of that size. Tongue will probs be 20-25mm and more than likely long timber screws at intervals along the beams.
  8. They are to be Cabin walls Les up at the lads place, building a little set up to include a cabin and covered hot tub etc, beams are Spruce and nice and straight. I’ll cut intersecting corner joints and probs just use a circ saw to do the tongue cuts and the edges of the groove plus a router to finish the centre. Beams are 4.8m so it’s fairly labour intensive hence I’d have happily ran them through a moulder.
  9. This is all slightly speculative Les. Options are to do single tongue and groove etc myself or see if anyone had a log moulder up here. Some are already dressed and some rough so I guess I’ll end up having to run them all through the planer to get them uiniform.
  10. Hi All just wondering if anyone knows anywhere up in Aberdeenshire where I can get some 75mm thick beams ran through a moulder to create an interlocking type joint. Not fussy in regards type of profile ?‍♂️. Cheers
  11. Those days with the odd exception are long long gone. Most jobs up to a very high level are filled with a variety of different nationalities, often on wages not as great as people would imagine.
  12. Decent poem but as for Sturgeon she cares not one bit for the consequences of her actions and is instead playing a political game which is seeing Scotland’s economy being devastated and children’s educations and prospects impaired due to her actions. But at the end of the day she herself will not suffer financially she has no children so as much as she says otherwise will never understand the worries of a mother or parent and has never ran a business or been self employed. Her actions currently are so out of balance with the actual virus numbers in Scotland if it wasn’t so tragic it would be laughable.
  13. Indeed true. But I will not be drawn into playground type arguments with one of the most vociferous individuals on here on his childish one sided terms. I’m no racist in any way shape or form but feel no need to have to dance to the fools tune played so well by some.
  14. You know Mark I spent time in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and with the UN on other peacekeeping missions and saw first hand the results of attitudes like yours ie If you don’t think or say as we do you are one of them. I’m far more moderate and tolerant to other ideas than you seem to be. Feel free to sit behind the keyboard playing the left wing warrior routine.
  15. What a childish stupid playground level statement, absolutely pathetic. You totally don’t know me yet you pass that judgement. Like I say reasoned debate is impossible with you.
  16. It’s warrant officer first class hence WO1. Thought after 22 years of service some of the ranks and traditions might have been explained to you. I tend not to be in these ridiculous hypothetical situations you described as a feeble poor means of trying to imply I’m one of them as you put it. You can use that ridiculous analogy in just about situation you want. Does that mean if I dont take the knee I’m in the wrong too. Fortunately we still have a bit of choice of who we are and what we react too. I’ve stepped up a few time’s in my life to protect those unable to protect themselves. You are indeed an extreme left winger Mark of that there is no doubt extreme to the point that reasoned debate is virtually impossible with you.
  17. Mark seriously bud don’t ever presume to tell me what I should be doing or how I should conduct myself ok. As in all cases the actions of a minority tarnishes the majority. You judged everyone by the actions of a few. Did you ever serve in or attempt to join HM forces ?. That’s a genuine question by the way as I’m still trying to work out where all this angst for anything British or even slightly right of centre etc comes from. They were not all doing the salute you mention, they are all not fascists are they, just as all the previous weekend’s culprits were not too blame etc etc etc. You are probs one of the most extreme on here in regards views and politics Mark, but ive yet to attempt to label you in any way shape or form, something you often do at the slightest opportunity.
  18. Unfortunately too may see patriotism as a dirty word. The English flag is derided as virtually a racist emblem to some. The balance and level of debate etc etc has long since passed the point of being reasonable. As for mosques and the activities of a minority within them, well the crimes committed in the name of Islam By extremists are well documented. To be honest this is a pointless back and forward debate. You obviously think anyone who doesn’t defer and apologise for any historical wrong doing is racist. I’m totally proud of the UK I have no guilt for being white. I’ve been around the world enough to know there is good and bad everywhere in all colours. The phrase right wing thugs etc makes me laugh in reality. If they were extreme right what were the previous weekend’s activities referred too ???
  19. Unbelievable ?‍♂️ I’m not even sure that is a serious question, if it is then you should be embarrassed.
  20. I knew a sense of humour existed in that Teutonic shell somewhere J ?
  21. So Mark you see no good in the leadership that Churchill provided at a point in History that could have conceivably brought about the destruction of the whole country ?? like all individuals he had flaws in his character as do you and I. Seems like the whole BLM media driven hype is causing nothing but division and a growing level of resentment at what looks like a attempt to rewrite history to suit the current accepted norms.
  22. I’d love to think so J but I fear not.As an example If you look at the latest round of wind farm licences and the ones already nearing completion you will sadly see that very little of this UK tax payer funded gold rush is actually benefiting the average UK worker. Yes some people get work in the wind farms but the real money that’s made is in the manufacturing and installation phases. Very rarely if ever does any of that come to these shores. That’s before you even look at the astronomical profits to be made by selling the electricity back to the UK. Most of the Jackets and foundation set ups are made in either the Gulf or China. Shipped here thousands of miles in the quest for net zero ?‍♂️. Now just think for a minute how much communities and the country as a whole would benefit if this was done in house. Real jobs, apprenticeships and skills for young people and money plowed back into the UK economy. How hard would it be to put a condition on the licence agreements that stipulated 50% had to UK owned, supplied and run !!! Why are we selling off a natural resource to other nations then forcing the taxpayers to buy it back. I know that we as a country whilst part of the EU could not do half of what I’m talking about but surely a blind man can see the current system ain’t working that well. Not just under the tories but for the last 30 years etc UK manufacturing and the skilled jobs that go with it has been devastated. We speak of net zero yet care nothing of the conditions and life of many of the people whom manufacture much of the essential infrastructure involved or of the long term decline of our skills base. I saw something the other day where someone commented on the new forth crossing and how wonderful a bit of Scottish engineering it is. Really ??? I worked on that and know fine well where the bridge sections were made and how many of the welds were being failed by UK ndt guys. Subsequently to be gouged out and rewelded in situ by teams of Romanian welders. One of the main contractors on the bridge Dragados a Spanish firm has just walked away from the multi million pound Aberdeen harbour project. No doubt the Scottish tax payer will be inline for a further humping. Having a bit of a rant but unfortunately people neither seem to see it or care. People’s attention is more focused on the hysteria surrounding little Britain sketches or Baden Powell’s possible homophobia ???
