Looks good. Rather than the wood I was wondering if you could put up a few images of the log loader set up. Second pic showed the top hyd ram mount and pivot point very well. I'm looking at making or buying a set up, be good to see one in detail empty and at different positions during its operation. Cheers

Working to those dimensions Andy, hopefully if weather is ok tomorrow I'll do some measuring up etc and see where I'm at. The drawings might be of use depending on what route you go with your own trailer set up.

UXO job off Belgian coast mobbing in ijmuiden once done vessel will be remobbed for a chain swap on the Alba fsu for chevron. Looking like things will be pretty busy Andy so yeah it may well pay to just buy it otherwise I may find myself in the the same situation I'm at now in sept/oct with 25t of DF to convert to beams etc and no time to do it.

Ratman/Andy yeah it's always good to build something that's bespoke to suit what you want. Time is the problem at the moment and the weather is not helping lately. I'm staring down the barrel of a 6-8 week trip away shortly so will be trying to get it to a point where I'm happy to leave it for a while. If the build costs get to within a certain point of the buy costs I'll probs just buy and adapt that to fit. time to do some maths I think

Currently swithering on wether to make my own or buy the log loader from Trakmet ready made J got a quote from Pawel whom I'm sure you know. They look to have some good kit and my experience with polish welders would lead me to expect a robust bit of kit. That Brexit forum has done for me J I'm just about ready to sack it in as a few others have done.

No J I'm afraid I have to take the hit for that one, it was buried under a pile of other stuff that we were ringing up for firewood. End of day tired and in a hurry trying to get the piece I wanted uncovered just ended up pushing the bar into it whilst cutting one next to it. To be honest it's only a plunge type cut so not right through all the same a tad disappointing I must admit. But you are right so much decent material just gets wasted. The piece sitting vertically in the trailer is earnaked for a coffee van bar top so I'll be losing the damaged edge.

Yeah Andy waste off local tree guy, bit of work to get it hone etc but better than seeing it chipped or burnt ?

Yeah the ones on mine are too, currently bolted but they will be replaced with QD set up once all painted and done, clearance over highest point of wheels and offset from chassis to make sure lifter radius is sufficient was my concern.

If I go for the hyd option I reckon I should come in at around £3500-4000 but there's a lot of free labour in there and I'm not really devoting all my time to it or watching the costs religiously. The Honda motor etc I'd use for powering the hydraulics I already have but a second hand generator as a donor is not big money, I probably could have saved a fair chunk by going single axle etc but liked the twin axle set up better. As an off the shelf option for the loader Trakmet have been very helpfull with offering to supply the whole log loader assembly including lugs to weld to chassis which would be very easy set up and match to a hyd power source. Before deciding which option I'll take I need to measure up the clearances and offset etc around the wheels to ensure it would work ok.

Cheers J Keen get away from the Brexit bickering this morning so spent a bit of time fettling. Hydraulics are on the to do list J, if you notice behind the A frame there is a space for a Honda gx and hyd pump, plan is for a log loader and a leveller at each end. Steel is well overstrength but that's intentional as hydraulics were always a long term plan. For now I need to get it going and get some use from it but I'll put the pics up if and when I get further on with the build. Not too shabby for an Idiot eh ??

Bit of progress with trailer build. Winch and ramps next. Looking to fab up a leveller at each end eventually.

From plenty of experience using horses in bad ground once they feel soft soft conditions underfoot they will be hell bent on powering out of it, and not at all easy to handle. The hoof is not good at spreading weight. Google horse stuck in mud etc and you will see plenty being hauled out.

Lol yeah nothing like a few slurps to loosen the tongue. Anyway that was then bud. No I got it at slightly less as it had been standing for a while and needed clearing. Had to sort own transport etc. I'm not sure reg how often they are around Andy as the big sawmills tend to buy up in big quantities well that's what I was told. Ref the trailer most of the frame etc was done myself, I'm in process of fitting the legs etc now in evenings, indespension units and tow hitch were sourced and fitted locally, mucked in a bit with guy at supplier etc but he set the units up tracking wise. Pretty happy with it for now I reckon I'm around 2 grand all in inc vat which is under the price for an equivelant xl trailer kit I think. OK my time was free but I think Ive got a stronger more adaptable item that I can add to later on. Ideally I'd strip it down and get it galvanised but I'm not done with the welding so I'd end up wrecking the galvo etc so probs will just hammerite it for time being until I get the final spec to how I want it. Hopefully get rails etc on this weekend and come up with a log loading solution. More than likely ramps and winch for now and maybe hyd loader later on. Apart from steel the only items are Knott 2700kg hyd damped tow hitch 2x pairs of 1300kg braked indespension units and cables etc 6 x trident towing sidewinder legs.

Ah welcome back bad lad ? They were from a forestry commission felling job Andy but were oversize and not wanted, they sat for a good while and were gonna end up off to biomass I think. Trailer is progressing

Cheers for the reply Is that the woodlands trailer ?? If not do you have any images of the set up. What was driver behind preferring the hand winch ??. Did you find there was a limit as to what you could get into the mill, some of the DF I have is right up on the max capacity diameter wise and 4.8M long so a decent weight.

Yeah no probs that's all I have for now but I'll put some more pics up once I get it set up. I've not made any effort to keep the weight down due to having plans for the log lifter etc in the back of my head hence its overstrength for what it is at moment. Gone for a twin axle braked set up. My licence is pre whatever it is anyway plus HGV1 so was not bothered by the 750KG thing.
