  1. Looks really good Andrew. View is lovely. That raising procedure is indeed a crazy bit of rigging ??
  2. Would it be possible to see a couple of images ??,
  3. The research I've done and the info I've gathered would indicate he's way off the mark in relation to size he's trying to span and material he's using. The DF I'm milling is for a sunroom and the max it will have to span will only be 4.5m, I'm pretty sure I'll be using a bit more than bolted up 4x2s
  4. I guess your gonna see the price of decent french oak jump, as will the demand for good carpenters and traditional timber framers and masons etc. Macrons 5 year promise will be a hard one to keep.
  5. Hi Andrew Thanks for the info. PM sent
  6. Saw a similar thing up on raasay a few years ago. I was in an accommodation camp built to house the guys building the new cal mac terminal. Cold windy night and the contractors had nearly finished the restoration of raasay house, cause was put down to an electrical fault but once the fire got hold it was done for. Retained firefighters On the island got assistance from the Portree crew who had to be brought from Skye via boats.
  7. Hi All looking to hopefully go ahead with a traditional timber frame sunroom later this summer. Material will be Douglas Fir Which I have ready for the job and intend to mill it myself. Just wondering if anyone knows of an architect up in Aberdeenshire that undertakes that sort of work where I can get a set of drawings made up. Also whilst the foundations and dwarf walls etc are no probs and I've built a few timber frame agriculture type buildings over the years this time around seeing as it's the family home I'd be looking to get some professional assistance. Once again if anyone can point me in the direction of any firm or individuals up here that would be appreciated. Cheers
  8. Mind you J is the brother similar in stature to yourself ?? . Physical capabilities and age play a big part in this kind of work. I've a 35T venom splitter that is to be honest underused in as much it comes out 5-6 times a year for 2-3 days at a time for me and a couple of friends. Couple of guys working that can go through a good amount of any kind of wood and still be ok the next day. On a similar thread I've often wondered if it would be worth hiring the machine itself out ?? Anyone any thoughts on that insurance wise and what day rate ???
  9. I'm out of the picture on the treadmill powering the machine.
  10. Imagine the insurance !!! Or the reaction of the HSE when they ask what happened to his fingers ?
  11. I remember using something like that with my father as a kid to make up bags of kindling to sell alongside the coal on the round we had. Only training I got was to be told don't put your fingers on the top ??.
  12. Thanks for that. Bit of a hike but I may be down Northumberland with the trailer at some point soon. If that's the case I'll give you a shout, cheers
  13. If you come across anymore HTB I'd be happy to help get rid of it, im near Turiff
  14. Cheers Andy that would be appreciated, I'd want to start from scratch and mill the whole log. Top slab will be a decent lump for sure. Gonna copy a one that's in a local butchers.
  15. Thanks J ill give them guys a try, hopefully save something decent from the fire.
  16. Cheers J very helpfull considering you are an ardent europhile remainer ?? Insch is half an hour from me so yeah I'd appreciate getting his number. Looking to make a decent butchers table J and a couple of large chopping blocks. There was tons of it around when the Aberdeen bypass route was being cleared but it seems not so much at moment.
  17. Hi All looking for a decent bit of beech for milling. Quite happy to assist with a job clear up to get a decent piece. 14ft Ifor available for collection. I'm up about 30 mile NW of Aberdeen. Cheers
  18. Well that's my plan in the end to be hydraulic for loading and toe boards I reckon that's as far as I'll go. Timber framing ??.
  19. Good set up for bad weather etc. You use the 360 to load the mill ??. You do much cutting for traditional timber framing ?
  20. Ok that's a valid point as once on the trailer the height certainly jumps up a bit. It is on my list of things to do with mine ie a hyd log loader along with hyd toe boards. I know it will never have the robustness of some mobile hyd mills out there but hopefully it will do what I need it to do and at a tolerable cost. Is your current 130 in a trailer ??
  21. Hi just wondering why such a quick upgrade ??. Did the 130 serve you well etc. I looked long and hard at the smaller woodmizer range but just could not justify the outlay and as for used well they tend not to come up very often.
  22. Hi I bought the 37T model about 2 year ago and have had no trouble at all. Ok some of the welding is not pretty but it's done what it needed to do and never failed to split what's in front of it. I went for the bigger model as it gets used on a lot of knotty arb waste rather than just nice clean softwood. Saying that with hindsight the 22T would probably have done fine. Only mods I've done are to weld on a log deck either side to hold a few pieces ready to split. I think this is now on the new machines ??. The ability to switch to vertical is handy too.
  23. 120x60x5mm from Grampian steel in oldmeldrum. Reasonably priced and they deliver. Yeah that was one of options other suggested by a mate with a good lathe is to make up new male sections for the bolt on plates with an extra offset. Lost the light today so will have a good look tomorrow and hopefully come up with a plan.
  24. Hit first snag about 2 mins after that pic was taken Andy, there's a bit of play in the legs where they slide onto the male on the mounting plate and if leg is leaning in the bottom of the mill is fouling on the top of the leg mechanism. Had to walk away for 5 mins bud pretty pissed off but hey ho a solution will have to be found. Shame as there was some smallish DF lying around that I was planning on trying everything out on.
  25. Bit of progress with trailer/mill set up, got the mill lifted on and all the rails levelled in relation to chassis and trued up. 6 legs worked well and will easily level up the trailer. Shit day like sun one minute hailstones the next.
