  1. Hi all, Any recommendations on what’s the best treatment to put on a timber serving platter. Options are Oak, Beech or elm at the moment and possibly Maple
  2. Yeah it’s turned out to be a handy bit of kit in reality, The day spent splitting saw some bloody nice wood get chopped and split but that was the deal unfortunately. The trunks to come out should give some nice boards. The one in pic in particular.
  3. Few bits of Elm left over from a days processing with the rock splitter in return for some nice Elm trunks, didn’t want to turn these two limbs into firewood.
  4. I had the 12ft tipper for two years after running a 16ft try axle for years, I used the tip function maybe a dozen times and found the extra weight, lack of bed length and height to be more of a disadvantage than the tipper function made up for. Compromised and went with a 14ft tri axle which is a great in between size, beaver tail option with a full width ramp and a winch would make it a very handy bit of kit.
  5. Castrol GTX will be more than good enough for a what is a comparatively low revving unit.
  6. Night and day difference in my opinion. Winch every time, for me I’ve found I can get a better finish, quicker cut and at the end of the day far less back pain. RH is 100% right when he says practice on rough timber etc to begin with.
  7. Any decent multi grade car/automotive type engine oil will be fine.
  8. What Oil ?? Do you mean for the engine ?, I believe it’s a woodlands you have is it not ?.

  10. Metabo model is on sale at FFX at the moment. I’ve a makita 110V thicknesser great bit of kit that’s been worked very hard and never missed a beat. Well worth having but be prepared to have a lot of shavings to clean up if you don’t have extraction set up.
  11. No I think you’ll find he understood it and replied.
  12. Hi All I’ve always in the past just bought Oregon chain oil in the 25L drums more out of habit than any knowledge as to what’s the best product etc. Just curious if anyone has any advice regarding other makes etc, the rotatech product looks to be a fair bit cheaper.
  13. Hi Mark I put a post up ref resawing elm a few days ago. I was doing pretty much what you are describing as a favour for a mate and to be honest we would have been just as quick to set up the router sled. Firstly it was killing the blades big time and secondly at max width the blade which was a brand new one correctly tensioned was deviating up and down in the cut, not by much but a few mm so enough to need remedial work with the router if you are after a totally flat piece. Admittedly that was only 1 piece of Elm which has been drying for about 4 years but maybe something worth thinking of.
  14. ?‍♂️?‍♂️Stop using the Fat word. You know how that goes with women
  15. Lol I’m just pissing about Andy. She’s ok for a jock
  16. Right let’s just get one thing straight the Mrs is not fat ok, if she sees a mention of her and fat in the same sentence on the interweb I’ll be getting my head nipped for ever and a day ??.
  17. Ffs Les less edge bud eh ?‍♂️. Because I’m looking to upgrade I spoke to Big J ref his experience as a previous owner and operator, he gave the pros and cons of the design in particular the single mast and others he’s had experience using, that’s it Les nothing more nothing less. What you know is of no concern to me. Hopefully Big J will pop in on this with his knowledge of the subject matter, of which I’m happy to admit my own is limited.
  18. Think Big J might disagree, having owned and operated one.
  19. Hashem Abedi trial: Benefits claimed by Manchester bomber’s family were used in terror plot, jury hears APPLE.NEWS Benefits claimed by the family of Manchester Arena terrorist Salman Abedi were used for his suicide... Interesting and frustrating read. Not sure where you start to sort this out, it’s not hard to see the attraction of trying to get to the UK.
