  1. Well, I got an email from an association of landscapers CNAPT (the French love their acronyms) saying that we CAN go to work. Phoned up the landscape/maintenance company that run 30 odd staff, they said they’d restarted Tuesday. Saw a tree guy working on the way home. So we’re going back to it, 2 blokes, 2 vans, no contact with clients etc. I can’t sit here for another fortnight whilst everyone else is keeping going.
  2. I haven’t been able to copy and paste for weeks.
  3. Must have been a very middle class rat, to have a taste for muesli.
  4. The black rat has all but disappeared from the Uk, because of the brown rat. Unless your using it as a euphemism.
  5. Understood, however trees don’t know if they’re in a forestry setting or at the bottom of a garden. My point (if there is one) is that a conifer like that will die off in a year or two (or three) after root damage, whilst a oak/beech or whatever will indeed struggle and then, possibly, turn up it’s toes (literally) This job started as one fir hitting the deck then a few weeks later a couple of others did, purely due to new wind forces, similar aged trees I imagine as the OPs, 40/50/60 max. Client ended up removing a dozen or so, garden/park setting.
  6. IME the biggest cause of wind throw for trees like that (Douglas?) is the removal of one or two of their number. The rest go down like Katie Price at a Man U. Christmas party once the wind forces have changed.
  7. Ok, after 10/12 years do you not think the danger has passed?
  8. @Stubby Yep, I’m reminded of the opening lines of The Go Between. The past is a foreign country, they do things differently there.
  9. I tried to copy and paste the “hodge called me a rasist” thread, but to no avail. Different times.
  10. Ah, I know the one, always under fire for being too chummy with the Tories. Can’t win can she?
  11. I spoke in person to my business account manager, with whom there has been numerous meetings about finance etc. over the years. I am pretty sure she knows.
  12. Tbh, I was rather surprised at their willingness to help.
  13. French, don’t have a UK account.
  14. Bank have just okayed a 6 month pause on the repayments on my biggest loan. They approached me, which was nice, set up the paperwork, all I had to do was send an email back. It all helps.
  15. I’ve been in this situation for a week, initially you try to work out how you can get round it, but after a bit you realise (if you’re running a tree service like me) that it’s not essential and a few weeks out of your life is nothing. Do your bit by doing nothing.
  16. Looks very similar to what we had here. Toe the line guys, we’re all going to take a hit, think of the greater good.
  17. Yeah, Mike is from Scotland, does wood craft and stuff iirc, he’s the non-evil one.
  18. Terrifying for you both. Fingers crossed.
  19. Jeebus David! Maximum incubation is 14 days isn’t it? Hope it’s not, although it’s never good going to hospital.
  20. The kid wants to be a climber, that’s what he wants advice on. My advice is get on a block course, 10 weeks at Merrist Wood or the like, then get a job with a decent firm with a good rep and good machinery, you’ll start with a lot of menial work, but watch what the experienced guys are doing, see how work gets carried out. Ask to set lines and do the routine climbing stuff when the lead climber is knackered or whatever. Try and get a bit of easy weekend tree work to build confidence. Couple of years down the line, all things being equal, you should be there or thereabouts ability wise. When you feel you’re good, start subbing out and with the extra money buy a chipper/tipper etc. get bigger work, make more money, hire staff (including a younger climber) Relatively doable if you set yourself targets along the way. Good luck.
