  1. Good to know they work! Never used one but will bare it in mind. Cheers
  2. On ebay you can get these carbide tipped 12" (carbide grit I think) circular blades that go on a petrol disc grinder, might last a bit longer if it touches the concrete! Hope it helps! KRB Karbite Ultimate Multi Purpose Carbide Blade 300mm Tree Stump Rail Sleeper | eBay
  3. This is probably a stupid question but will the Husky non-drip spouts fit in the oil and fuel caps on a new Stihl saw? Found a Husky one for a great price but can't help thinking it might not fit. Cheers Guys!
  4. Hi, Just trying to decide which is a better bet? Seen lots of grumbling about the new electronicly controlled saws.I'm not generally a fan of over complicated electronics and would enjoy the price difference but does anybody have any real reason to avoid the new saws as I'm in need of a saw asap and might not have time to wait for the right 440? Cheers
  5. After some more stern words on the phone I now have a shiny new saw in the post. Apparently Stihl have not even collected the broken saw from the dealer for inspection yet!! Only took 3 months! Wooohoo! I can get some work started now! Think I will have to be a little more discerning about which dealer I get my next saw from. Poor show Stihl! Cheers guys!
  6. Haha! I asked if they would cover the cost to hire something to get a job done, I'm sure you know what they said! Bit of a pisstake for £450 to get 45mins work from a tool I have owned from the start of Feb. Hey ho, what can you do? I will not be getting my big saw for milling from them thats for sure!
  7. Mountain Man, I had a brand new MSE220 go up in a cloud of smoke, and I do mean a cloud, and a flash like Zeus was living inside it! This was after less than an hour of moderate use and when it went bang it was not even under load, just pulled the trigger and flash and bang breakers tripped....... Spoke to dealer they would not exchange only repair, this took about 2-3 weeks. When I got the saw back it had another fault, the chain would coast to a stop when the trigger was released, around 6 or 7 seconds!! Offered to fix again... another 2 weeks.... Blah blah blah. I do all sorts of carpentry and fabrication work and own many tools from many companies, all of which would replace an electric tool with this type of fault, for new, immediatly. This was refused to me as an option. Anyway I am now waiting for the saw to go back to Stihl to be assesed and for them to decide weather or not to credit the dealer so they can refund me!! If festool, Maffell, Lamello etc. behaved like this they would loose loyal customers. All sounds like luck of the draw with the dealers tho, Any recomendations for dealers round north london? There are not many to choose from!
  8. Hi there, I have been having an absolute nightmare with Stihl customer services. I would like to know how the other big names in chainsaws look after there customers when their products are faulty. I was about to pull the trigger on another saw from stihl but after this I am extremely apprehensive about buying anything from stihl again. Any advice much appreciated. Cheers Will.
  9. Essential skill sewing! Used to make kites a while back. Get an old machine, metal gears, and it will do leather for tool sheaths and even 2 layers of seatbelt for kite noses, and anything else you can throw at it. Made all sorts, so handy.
  10. The first mechanical gang saws was used by the Romans to saw timber and marble believe it or not! A couple of years before the Dutch!
  11. I would say that they are made of some kind of palm tree. Looks very similar the palm wood I have seen before.
  12. The best oil for food items is mineral oil or boiled Walnut oil. Walnut oil is supposed to 'set' and harden the wood, mineral oil stays 'wet' and needs to be applied more regularly. You can also advise to wash the chopping boards with a bit of salt and half a lemon or lime rather than fairy liquid and hot water. Make sure any Walnut oil has been heat treated to denature the proteins that cause the allergic reaction to nuts!
  13. I've not used them myself but the guys on the woodwork forum I'm on really rate Narex chisels are great for the money, and very reasonably priced. I've been very tempted myself but I have far too many chisels already. I use Japanese and western chisels, but for an all round set I would go western. They are easyer to sharpen if you chip an edge, it can be sole destroying grinding out a big chip in a 40mm Japanese chisel with waterstones!!
  14. Alec, its all sycamore Believe it or not! I'm after more if there is some about! Cheers
  15. Yeah cheers dude! The paperclip thing worked a touch! I'm a bit rusty at the forums!

  19. Hello everyone! As you can see I'm new here. Im a woodturner based in north London. I am looking for Large diameter timber in the london area, I have a van, moving equipment and a few sets of strong arms! I don't have a chansaw ticket though:blushing: I know that woodturners are sometimes seen as a bit of a pain to you guys. I have worked in construction long enough to know when I'm in the way, making you look unprofessional or being a PITA so do my best to avoid these situations. I'm reliable and won't mess you about! In terms of what I'm after............ Most species are of interest to me, Sycamore, Beech, Oak, Cedar ect. but especialy large bits of crotch wood and obviously any burrs! Haha! I require a minimum diameter of about 20" but 24" up would be better. If acess is good and the tree is of interest I can take fairly large ammounts. I can also offer to make items for your clients from their tree, in my experience people really like this as they grow attached to the tree thats been in the garden since the kids were small! If you gain me such a commision I will give you a percentage of the price of the item. If any of you guys can help me out with this I can bribe you with beer, bowls and hopefully do you a bit of a favour shifting all the timber. Thanks! Will
