hi you can cut 8 to 10 inch logs with a havester mine will fill the trailer in no time but i find it is better to cut them with a processor
Nice work.
How many tonnes can you fell in a day before changing/sharpening the chain?
-
I've not long bought a 1x42 with log deck and haven't got round to using it yet. How do you find yours? anything to keep an eye on?
The pervious machine was a Tajfun 380 which was a good machine for the money main downside was the chain running all the time.
Brilliant machine, you wont be disappointed.
I will pm you later

Hi, only done about 250 cube with it so far about 5 artic loads, has same bar and chain on that it came with but you have to adjust regulary .
Are you using chain oil, or hydraulic oil?
-
Do harvesters cut 8-10 inch logs?
Probably not, but over a day, they will do just as many cuts as a processor, as the overall throughput is probably 10 or 20 times greater.
If your throwing a chain away every 10 to 20 tonnes, your not a good operator, and something is far wrong.
-
Thats a lot of timber cut with 1 sharpening! Fair play, some are better than others with a file - makes bar and chain processors look a lot more attractive. Thanks:thumbup1:
I good mate of mine ran a Duun 420, .404 chain and was achieving the same sort of throughput per chain/chain sharpen.
Harvesters run these very chains.
How many harvesters stop every 10-20 tonnes for a chain change?
-
I agree the shows will always want straight softwood to process because it shows there machine off well ,would you be impressed with them stuggling with big flares that won t go through or bent and twisted stuff slowing it down.
I think the tajfun has a problem with the oil pipe, maybe thats been modified now also one chap on here reckons to use a chain every 10 to 20 tonnes, maybe I have missunderstood him but thats chucking away a chain a day.
Cheers Chris
I have a Pilke 1 x 42, and a .404 chain will stay sharp up too 100 tonnes, and I can sharpen a chain 10 or 20 times in its life.
If he cant keep a chain sharp for 10 to 20 tonnes, he should think about a career change.

From the videos online, this machine produces a lot of small shards when splitting, you'd need the cleaning device to separate the logs from the skud, especially if you want to charge a premium for your logs.
I dont think quality logs should have lots of small crap delivered with them.
-
Nice one
-
No . I dont.
I second that

So your looking at a minimum of £80k plus vat, by the time the machine is in your yard......
£80k could buy a much more versatile set up, and out preform that thing.
Not only that, £80ks worth of eggs in one basket, is a risk and a half.
When the sh it hits the fan, that's not gonna be pretty.

I can't get them to sit right unless I lift them with the log grab.
Bale squeeze would be the ultimate answer, as less chance of pinching the straps.
-
Agreed, will be to wet for this winter but get them cut up and split now, keep undercover but let the wind blow through the stack and they will be fine next winter.
I do find my machine struggles a bit cutting the likes of Leylandi especially if its wet.

What machine? Firewood processor?
If so which one?
Fresh cut, it should be like a hot knife through butter

As above really.
Have 4 large evergreens which are to come down shortly.
Are they burnable?
Been told that evergreens are a bit sappy and therefore not to good to be burning in a log burner.
Would obviously be seasoned.
Any truth to the above?
Kindest Regards
All wood burns.
Nowt against evergreens, if seasoned

Spoken like a true businessman :thumb up:
If some one wants you to take a product they will bend over backwards to get it in your yard.
Feck giving some Russian gangster 10 k how you going to get your money back
Well said.
I know three or four guys who have paid out thousands to Poland, Russia etc, and gotten zero in return.
If the supplier is legitimate, they will spend the first one before pyament.
If not, they are well dodge.
And if you want to waste thousands of pounds, iam happy to take it, for no return
-
Don't pay in advance.
You should get the first container prior to payment.
If you are happy with the quality you pay in full within two days.
