Does anyone burn wood chips on a wood burning stove?
I've got access to some w30 g30 chip and thinking I might give it a try to see if a shovel full will keep the fire smouldering over night on a low burn?
Or whether it would just smother the fire out?
Not really recommend.
You get a build of of gases and when they ignite cause an explosion, usually blowing your stove doors off.

Are you near to Cheddar Gorge?
Looks like a nice part of the country

Wow, that's impressive.

I have a Bandit Beast 1680 for sale.
Can be set up as a chipper, or shredder/grinder.

Haha this is rather true ! We are currently extracting a load of DF from a site that was felled some time ago and for one reason or another I don't see that selling any time soon either - often there is a belief that ones timber is worth more that it is !!
Oh aye, ones timber is more than the price of gold
Had that just recently, never fails to amuse.
DF going as 3m chip/firewood?
I have had a load of DF in a good 3 or 4 years, hardly ever see it.

You'll not go cold for a while then.

Love the smell of fresh cut sitka.
Oooooooooooooh its good

Thanks for your reply
Is the backing plate the same height as the wedge or is it lower
Could a ramp be made like on 37x
You could easily make a ramp.
The back plate is the same height as the splitting wedge when its fully lowered.
The chamber is quite big as well, so you can cut three or four, then hand ball them out.

I've stopped harvesting operations but still got couple loads hw at roadside though they are committed to customer who's waiting on haulier, was offered £65pt roadside today for them as buyer can't get any from usual sources.
Incidentally it's roundwood I used to sell, not "cordwood"
Edit: central Scotland where £45 roadside would normally be absolute max
Steaks for tea then

Makes a huge difference a winch on a splitter, wouldn't be without it

I could do a large amount of sawn sycamore extremely cheaply delivered to Ashford. I have 20 tonnes (as well as some lime) coming in later in the week.
Sorry to diverse, but i have some 15ish inch lime sitting in the yard, approx 3m long.
Is this worth anything? Or just firewood?
-
How does that work?

I've got a cone splitter coming out from approved hydraulics in sept for the week on hire for job in Henley just to down size stuff to fit into a 12 inch bandit, more of a trial really.
I'll let you know what it's like after I've had a play, it's half the price of a lasco so I've got an open mind on it
what size of machine are you fitting it on?
-
If you need 18" plus have a look at the Multitek.
I think a Multitek machine would benefit from having multiple splitting wedges in one.
Rabaud, for example, who offer 2/ 4 / 8 / 16 splits, without changing the wedge.
This would be a HUGE time saver, in my opinion, and would make the machine far more appealing.

It'll probably be better on the knouted stuff let me know how it works out. Are you getting it of approved hydraulics?
Yeah.
£400 for a full 7 days, hitch and hoses included.

Hi
The cracker works quite well in oak, beech & sycamore was struggling quite a bit with Elm and twisty field Maple but that was expected.
Getting processor sized hardwood is almost impossible in this area so the cracker has its place but most of the stuff will still need to be cross cut and split manually.
I'm gonna hire a cone splitter for a week and put it on a 7.5 tonner to see how well it works.
I've some well seasoned big Elms, so it'll be interesting to see how she gets on.

Yes it is, however we can dry as required if needed, although the weather if favourable will do the job.
Really?
How long do you season it for?
-
Trying to figure out how many tonnes of Sitka per acre, roughly?
Had three very different answers so far
-
yes they go through again
Couldn't you leave them chunky, and put them through the processor?
-
Surely a processor that only cuts 350mm is restricting you?
Why not get a bigger processor, that can handle bigger timber?
If you can be more flexible and cut larger diameter timber, this can only be a good ting?
burn wood chips ?

Seeing is believing right enough.
Maybe sit to one side of the stove, just incase.......
