  1. Thanks. It does look similar concept. the Hyundai anvil differs in that it has a bit metal that stops it going closer to the blades. That one looks like the anvil could keep going into the blades. The gap between the anvil and the metal casing fills up with crud that gets hardened and is very hard to get out so you have a clean run at it. I do want to adjust the gap because the blades feel a little aggressive at the moment and restricts the diameter I can easily chip.
  2. Think I'll have to wait until I change the blades next to have a look. Can't picture it my head how I can put the credits cards there and just tap it down...doesn't make sense. Maybe there are different anvil constructions
  3. Can’t quite picture what you mean …. where do the credit cards go?
  4. Has to be said.....These are niche machines.... so for a small holding it's probably perfect. If I was using it every week for arb work I think it would do my head in, but for personal use for the price its great. I think if you don't overload it with big material it copes very well. The blades last 10-15 hrs of actual chipping I'd say, and then you are having to shove the material down which becomes infuriating compared to it just sucking in the material. Blades are easy enough to replace and I buy them from the uk suppler - Genpower. There may be cheaper places to buy - don't know. Haven't bothered to sharpen them yet, thought I would save up a few and get them done together a bit cheaper plus.....The anvil is a pig to adjust with any degree of refinement. The big the gap the smaller the diameter of wood it can cope with. So I don't really want to have to adjust for some newly sharpened blades compared to brand new blades. Haven't had much go wrong with mine and when it has Genpower have been pretty reliable for replacing parts.
  5. I buy from genpower for my Hyundai who is the uk dealer. Cheap but don’t last very long at all. Green mech one are more expensive but probably better quality and harder wearing. I doubt they fit other machines
  6. I’ve had one for 3 years now
  7. I have noticed the groundie not pushing it in all the way properly and it being loose when I’ve pulled it up but not otherwise
  8. Afaik definitely thinning up to 10cm dbh exempt as per FC guidelines. Cheers
  9. Next time I’m there I’ll get some.
  10. Yes exactly our plan at the moment [emoji106]
  11. Ok interesting thanks At first I thought it was fire damage but then I thought how could it be in the middle of a dense plantation….the trees are too spaced out unless there was more than one fire, and there are others next to those that have lost some of the bark. Wonder what it could be [emoji848]
  12. Thanks. Appreciate the reply. I think you are on to something with respect to ‘growing’. The phrase growing trees is repeatedly used in that guide over and over again, to the point that it would certainly seem to be deliberate and one would assume excludes dead trees. You are right regarding the three dead ones not making that much difference, but as we are working without a felling license at the moment as we get a better understanding of the plan ahead I want to be cautious about what we do fell and stick within the legislation. We are recording the works. We also want to clear as many of the smallest diameter trees as possible as the plantation desperately needs opening up. Standing dead isn’t such a problem (as in risk) and they let the light through so I could swop 3 of those for probably 10 skinny ones if they count towards the 5 cube.
  13. I’ve been working a very small spruce plantation. Thinning out The owner wants to take out his 5 cube allowance this quarter and we found 3 trees that the deer have rubbed the bark off and are now dead. They are probably 20-25cm dbh. Do these count towards the 5 cube or are they exempt? Can’t find anything obvious in the forestry commission guides so I am thinking they probably count towards? Thanks
  14. I know it’s not what your asking but….For arb I prefer the 550xp mkii as so light and will run an 18” so great for trimming out. Then have a 70cc (I have a ported 576xp) for bigger fells and ringing up. 550 is cheap as chips.
  15. Success! Local fabricator had a 1/2” drive for extra muscle.
  16. How did you get the screws out? I have now bought some velcro straps to change out my old knackered leather straps and in my naivety thought this would be a simple process ho ho! The gaff screws need to be removed to put the velcro straps on and they must have loctite or something on there because they will not budge. Anyone else had a crack at this and can offer some experience? Wondering if there is a way to break or dissolve the loctite or maybe use a rattle gun? Or?! I could just forget about it and get some new leather but they are hard to come by at the moment
  17. Thanks Jo. I agree, the last thing I want to do is fiddle, it’s a slippery slope to disaster. Imo it runs well once fired. But I also bow to greater wisdom of service mechanics regarding the lean running. I’m using husky xp but done that for at least a year now and this is a recent thing. Plug is a good shout.
  18. Seems like some people have received new zigzags….seen a post ‘valleysaw’ on ig And…. What is the technical update of my ZILLON / ZIGZAG / ZIGZAG PLUS product? - Petzl United Kingdom WWW.PETZL.COM
  19. Need a spud instruction video nudge nudge
  20. Cheers Mark that’s great
  21. Thanks Spud, yeah the air filter is probably a month old and I know to clean it regularly. These saws are very sensitive. But I haven't fiddled with the carb because I don't trust myself to get it right. I can tweak a 200 carb but these ones I have no mastery over what so ever!
  22. Hi, My 2511 will not fire on the choke setting (well maybe 1 in 10 attempts) and so I am left with pumping the saw on full throttle until it runs. Then its generally absolutely fine for the rest of the day. Though still won't start with the choke after a break..... Any suggestions? Cheers!
  23. Thanks
  24. Thanks I’ll be on site again so could get a picture of stalk. I did wonder if honey fungus but it didn’t quite seem right and comparing photos I agree the gills look different and the other thing you pointed out … the radiating lines in the cap, not seen that on honey fungus. [emoji848]
  25. Saw these on a London Plane. Right at base of butt. Thanks
