  1. I'm a rugby chap, so I'll skip on the footy stuff... I have said before, and will say again: Tree Austria 3.2. Great harness, comfy, giant leg loops, and is just a very good, and less expensive, alternative to the Motion But that is, of course, just my humble opinion
  2. Must be flippin awkward to cut a tree from a helicopter...
  3. Tree work in Germany in the 80's... Now that must have been an "education", if there ever was one.
  4. Flipn'ek, you are keen! Then have a good chat to your boss, and take a few CV's to apf with you. If you dont run, you dont win! Seriously though, if you fancy the jump, there is almost always work about here. And language isnt always an issue
  5. As soon as you get here 6am tomorrow morning at the workshop, bring your sarnies
  6. Or come here to Germany, i can give you a couple of 35metre (110 foot) poplars that i cant be motivated to dismantle
  7. "Little grasshopper", hows about you suggesting that you split the price of the courses in some way, 50:50 or 40:60 or something. I appreciate that you feel he should perhaps floor the costs because it means you do more for him in the long run, but suggesting you go halves would at least make him realise how much you want to do it. If you get another offer or 2 of work elsewhere, you could even use that as added pressure (if of course, you dont take up on the offers) I'm also only 24, but started climbing at 17/18, so i was fortunate to get an early start. And I had similar issues with my first boss, so make it clear how much you want to get moving. Even if a wee bit does have to come out your pocket. Just an idea
  8. I think he's trying to sell something....
  9. Balance isnt an issue. At least, i havent found it to be so. I use the 180, 115 for back up, on a 10" bar and its nice and even. The weight between the two is marginal, not something to be concerned about. As i have said before, the 180 is normally enough for the day. Unless you're trying to do forestry with it
  10. When I read the thread title, I couldnt help thinking that you may have the wrong forum here, my good chap.... "snicker"
  11. I've just got my Tree Austria 3.2 (the newest) and I think its brilliant. Thought the leg loops were a bit loose at first (thought i had got wrong size!) But turns out that its deliberate. The leg loops are proper big and go right up to your backside, has a sliding bridge, like treemotion, and personally i dont think its that busy, 4 or 5 loops and and one on back for your saw. Spent 5 hours in it yesterday trimming and putting 30 metres of bracing in a horrible 6-stemmed sycamore, and it was very comfortable, as far as comfortable can go with harnesses. Long story short, I would recommend one! And its cheaper than the tree motion...
  12. Well, as of yet it hasnt fallen out, but once when my groundy was passing it up to me, it almost slid out as he hadnt clipped it in properly. But working with it, no issues. Unfortunately, as I live in Germany, using the "Devils-Saw" husky would prompt a visit from some men in suits, with little "Stihl" badges on their lapels.... so havent a chance to use the husky.
  13. We get paid monthly..... I'm a foreman in a big company, so we have our wee teams, and have a good rapport with eachother, so thankfully its not "i cant be bovvered to go in, i will just txt boss" its more like, "i really dont want to let me mates down". Saying that, its Germany, and you need a sick note from doctor even if you just have one day off because you had a bad bratwurst the day before. And there aint no sick note for hungover
  14. Wonderful.... just got mine, have'nt had a chance to use it yet, it's still shiny. Petzl are right blighters at instilling confidence, aren't they?
  15. Gibson for rythm, Ibanez for lead. Job done However, the nice young lady that started this thread has been so over-whelmed by our boundless professionalism, and has since bought a Tanaka... I cant get poptarts in germany...
  16. I dont think TimberCutterDartmoor has read the title of the thread.... Stihl up in the tree, husky on the ground. Though TimberCutter is upsetting the proverbial apple cart... I am liking the look of the little red things Btw, panasonic...
  17. I was thinking of starting a thread like this just for the laugh of it, but obviously someone else was faster Both are good, try them out, and wherever you can get spare parts nearest and cheapest And I'm still chugging away on my les paul special 2, but the new battery stihl arb saw is better in the tree, dont need an extension cable
  18. So yes, i'm being silly thats good to know. Thought that thats how it is, just be sensible and keep an eye on your kit (which we should anyway) Zillon, consider yourself ordered!
  19. Forgive me for being blind and/or stupid, but where is the hairline? If it's that wee scratch-looking thing on the "arrow", then you have very sharp eyes, young sir! Little concerned now though, was thinking of getting a zillon lanyard. Should i be concerned, or am I being silly?
  20. Aha, sorry Coleman, should probably read the posts properly, got mixed up there... Thanks tree beard for clarification. Interesting to see how many people use different cuts. Anyone got more? Time to get the books out and experiment
  21. Ta very muchly Coleman, was just about to ask for some pics! Little embarrassed to admit that the coos bay trangle cut is new to me, but makes sense. Will be trying it out on monster sycamore takedown on friday
  22. Ja, as the title suggests, I'm having a wee bit of bother trying to find one. I know I can get one from Blighty, (honybros, gustharts, etc) but my boss said he would get it for me as it is climbing gear for the company. However, I have a couple of issues. Problem is, is that in Germany, they usually pay by bank transfer rather credit card over the internet, and im not sure if that's possible with Brit shops. Another problem is that Brit shops are, naturally, in English. And I dont think my boss's English is good enough to understand payment and packaging details. So, does anyone know anywhere where i can get a HAAS climbing system in Germany? I've tried Freeworker, freetree, and drayer, and they dont have them yet. Any help would be very muchly appreciated!
  23. We had a beauty last winter. We do alot of work for the city council and enviromental dept, and we had one job felling and thinning about 30trees bordering a car park for some blocks of flats. One chap comes out and asks if we could just "lop a tree down quick" thats hangs over his parking space. Politely i tell him that all the trees are noted and protected and we cant touch it unless we have contract to do so, and that he can call the council and once we get the go ahead, we would do it. He didnt like that... Rather annoyed he trudged off. 15 minutes later he came out shouting and mouthing off for getting a bit of sawdust on his car.... yes, sawdust. Said he would call the police as it would cost him money to get it cleaned. I politely informed him that it his perfect right to do so. And then he cleared off. Hour later the police arrived, they laughed considerably (german police are awesome), had a coffee with them, and said to call them personally if he gave us anymore trouble. He did, we called them, and he got placed in the police car and driven away for wasting police time and being abusive to an officer. Highlight of the winter season i think
  24. I live in germany, with german family, so you can imagine the beer flying everywhere..... and i mean EVERYWHERE:biggrin:
