  1. Thanks Arran... think I've seen those at "rock" climbing shops
  2. Thanks Ian. I agree when I first started I instinctively tried cutting too close thinking it would snap easier which it didn't. Suppose time of year makes a difference too as now stuff is semi green and sappy. Maybe I need to go further apart with cuts. Cheers for reply
  3. Strim the taller weed off and allow sward to thicken. Apply selective when grass has established a bit more. Remember weeds which come up after cultivation and seeding wont sustain with ongoing mowing. The usual lawn weeds either stand up well to constant cutting or have a very low prostrate growth habit eg clover buttercup daisy self heal etc etc. Docks and nettles will disappear over time if you mow regularly, especially if helped along with a dot spray of selective.. maybe ticlopyr i.e. garlon / timbrel
  4. Round up strim round up patience.....or hire front mounted mulcher to make it look brand new
  5. Just wondering as someone relatively new...is there a type of formula for making successful snap cuts. I mean any relationship between diameter of stem ..distance between cuts and depth of cuts. I find I'm very hit and miss and its a waste of time and energy to lower the saw then find the damn bit wont break off. Also, does anyone make some sort of adjustable foot sling to use in place of basic webbing sling when your getting a better stance for using saw. Don't think I've seen anything but surely it would be cheap to make a bespoke item that attaches to tree and adjusts to give exactly right length to stand comfortably.
  6. Thanks Dalton will source some shackles of that size with nylon lock. As for chest harness just thinking cheaper way to have fall arrest harness for MEWP work and also was wondering if top harness could support weight of hanging saw more comfortably. Sorry to OP for going slightly off topic
  7. Not sure about swivel but would like to add more rings. Question re Treeflex which I have.. can I just undo the little D connectors holding the bridge and if so do I just crank them back up or are they fixed with addesive ?? Not sure how undoing them affects conformity etc Also can you get chest straps to convert treeflex to full body
  8. Any support... staking? ..underground guying?.. are you supplying plants and will there be a defects liability period
  9. Well I got the job. Not sure what the other guy quoted yet but hopefully will find out. Probably get told off by most of you guys but went in at £730 so not much room for leeway if my optimism has run away with me again. Should be doing it week after next so will let you know how long it took.
  10. Try Orange plant there's a depot in Cannock. There's also a place in Norton Canes which is close. Internet should give loads platform hire places within reasonable delivery distance.
  11. I'll tell you when I've either got it or lost it
  12. If I get the job I will let you know how I got on ...even if I get burned lol Thanks again for all feedback. The site is a great resource...thanks to the managers who keep it up and running
  13. Thanks Hodge..I appreciate your feedback. I have actually priced it on the basis of: Me and a groundie for a day dismantling and taking top half of trunk down. Then me and team of three with truck and chipper to go on second day and finish off and remove everything. Maybe we'll get away early or maybe late lol. As has been mentioned in other posts the time gets sapped by cutting up the bigger pieces of trunk and carrying them out. I learned this on the last (and only so far)big one I did. It really was a shock how long it took to cut up a 6 mt trunk which was 4 ft diameter at thick end and wheelbarrow segments out to the trailer. Mind you never needed to go to the gym for a bit
  14. As an afterthought... to the people who say that I should know how long it will take, I should point out that I do not have years of experience but enough experience to know that every tree is different. I know I may take longer than a really experienced pro but don't want to make the customer pay for my learning. I'd rather make less on the job but do it at the going rate. Experience is worth a lot and I don't intend to rush or take chances. The forum is there so I asked for opinions and got some.
  15. Thanks for the input everyone. I've put my price to the bloke and he's getting another one by Tuesday so will let you know if I get it and how long it takes. Of course time taken to dismantle may be longer than some would take as I am still a novice, but will put feedback up for what its worth
  16. Know what you mean....the last really big one was 4 ft diameter. Cutting up the trunk was a nightmare and we had 2 builders bags of just sawdust
  17. Where can you hire a big saw...when I tried I had to hire the guy with it
  18. Whats a Jo Beau....thought that was summat that knocked on the door when you were avin tea
  19. Thanks all..... Never considered a clear fell. Don't think the pic really shows the size. It really is a big mother. If I get it I will post pics and feedback etc
  20. Interesting......been wondering about polyprop as a tag line etc...its so cheap
  21. How much should I charge to take down and remove this Cedar. Sixty foot tall...1 metre base diameter and fair old drag through utility room and garage to get it to a chipper and vehicle. Any opinions about how many loads of chip/logs. P.S. Is Cedar wood worth anything
  22. P.S. Any suggestions with what to do with a 1.5 mt split tail, 1 carefull owner
  23. Latest batch of toys just arrived, hitch climber and foot ascender and fancy dan CE lanyard so no excuses now. Cant wait to try and compare with Blakes plus micro pulley at harness.
  24. I suppose what I need to do is find out if my rope grab can be dismantled and constructed midline. Will try to chase up manufacturer. Yeah, as said I want CE type lanyard for climbing and dragon type system when coming down the stem but want to make it wire. Cant see point of keeping 3 lanyard systems.
  25. I can cut this line and get items off. Can join swivel krab to flip line with screwgate and use mini sling between adjuster and harness etc, but how can I get rope grab onto flip line....Just take it apart and re assemble on the line...? Will this not compromise its integrity..? Or can I cut the other end off the flip line, slide it on and the tie a knot..?
