  1. Sunshine here too in West London. Really wanted to start on this Euc on the first bit of dry weather, but as the weatherman said it would be chucking it down all day, not made the necessary plans... weathermen appear to mess up everything I want to do in life, ah well, there's always next year I suppose.
  2. Not something I intend to ever do, as I have the kit, but just wondered how people used to chunk down before pulley's? Modern day pulleys give the movement necessary to do this quite easily, but before they came along???
  3. In this type of scenario, how do you get your rope back? What knot do you tie to the lowering branches in order to release them once on the ground?
  4. washing machine, then tumble drier... And don't tell the missus I told you.
  5. Just like to say what a great thread... Full of useful info and help. Its threads like this one that show that, as a group, tree climbers of all sorts appreciate that not everyone knows whats best, but that even those starting out need a guiding hand in what can be a very dangerous (especially if not done right) game. Other than a few minor disagreements, or discussions on relative physics, you all show that no matter what, safety comes first. ease of operation, and speed come second. I'd just like to offer a round of applause to those who know that offering advice, gained from experience, is free. But that the lack of that advice, can cost dearly... :congrats::congrats:
  6. Get an Army Gortex jacket... That's just for the drive to work if you drive a Series 2 landy.
  7. Hanging over a lake with ten foot deep margins, with all my kit tied to me, and me tied to the tree. On a willow that had started to split down the trunk, so the club finally decided it needed the work I told them about three years previous. So, there I am on the wayward limb that was causing the split, with a slight breeze thinking, "if this goes, there aint a chance in hell I'll be able to unhook me from the tree in time, nor me from my kit" all of which would have either slammed me into the water and held me there, or dragged me to the bottom dependant on which carabiner I managed to open in time. All the time I could feel the fibres breaking back at the trunk, vibrating down the limb... Luckily, dropped the limb down in two big chunks, and left the club to sort it from there. A few days later, dropped what was left onto the bank. That one was what stopped me 7-8 years back... really was as uncomfortable as I ever want to be.
  8. damn... I thought I was going to beat you to it and started trying old pencils...
  9. as a matter of interest... What you making them out of?
  10. :blushing:Yup, you're 100% Tusk not Husk...
  11. Make me up a set and I'll road test em before you go into mass production and distribution...
  12. As I'm only just coming back into all this after a long lay up... I need to get some bits together, most of it is now either purchased or at least I know where I'm heading to get the necessary. One of the main things I need, are some boots. I don't want top of the range, as I'm not like you pro's that will be using them all the time. In fact, as long as they don't tear my feet apart with blisters, and add protection, then I'll be quite happy. ideally, the boots will (A) protect me, (B) not be too uncomfortable, and © be cheap. looking through the pages of chainsaw boots on the internet, I keep seeing the Treehog Husk boots and wondered if anyone has any experience with them? Obviously the welly type boots are cheaper, but I don't think even with my near monkey climbing skills, they would work at all.
  13. They made half the army redundant, the rest are fighting a war they shouldn't be involved in... Knowing the gov' they would supply the troops plimsolls to wade in just like the useless boots they supplied for the desert... In an attempt to stop flooding, the EA used to dredge rivers that had silt build up... Luckily, they sold all (or nearly 90%) of our dredgers to another country (Switzerland I think) so that plan is out of the window.
  14. Sorry, must have associated assessment tagged on the end for NPTC
  15. As per the title, Looking for a training centre/college, that does CS30/31 course near west London. Preferably with good feedback... Cheers in advance, Martin
  16. A quick search through the online manual says it's an auto regulating bar oil system. so may have something wrong with it?
  17. I personally think he should leave the cutting to the dog next time...
  18. Chances are, you knackered at the weekend, because your body isn't getting enough protein to repair itself. On a crap food diet, (crisps, chocolate bars etc) your body will burn these of like nothing, leaving you short of carbs to continue working, you're body will then start breaking down fats and protein to fill the void. By the sounds of it, you're body doesn't store too much fat (going on height/weight) so that just leaves protein. Protein in a good diet, is used to rebuild tissue damage and generally regenerate the body, if too little is consumed the body gets tired and needs to rest in order to recover. This will be the tiredness at the weekend kicking in. Calories in the form of carbs, should always be complex carbs, which release over a long period. Sugars etc, just give a sugar rush, and burns off very quickly, leaving the body tired again, with the carbs burning slower though, the body doesn't get to the stage that it runs out of fuel, especially if that fuel is replenished regularly. The most important thing to realise, is that 3 meals a day, isn't actually that great. With the same intake, spread over 5 meals, your body will use it far more efficiently.
  19. Cheers fella, didn't look there when doing a quick search.
  20. Got a chance of some Marlow Double Braid Rope in 12mm for about £2 per metre. Looked around and this appears to be a good lowering line? and goes for about £3 per metre. But I'd like to check with you guys before I jump in and grab it. Need to do a dismantle, using natural crouch lowering points and worried that a double braid may snarl up on bark etc. All advice, more than welcome, cheers:001_smile:
  21. What size truck is it? If you come into London then Euro4/5 emissions laws may well mean you need to keep Adblu going in the motor... not sure about other major English Cities???
  22. Dependant on the vehicle, it will also have the engine management cut in and effectively detune the engine... as with most engine management systems, they look at what should be happening and if something is wrong will drop power to save engine wear and cut down on the risk of engine failure. The fact that the sensors pick up the wrong emissions at the exhaust, will tell the engine management that something is wrong. You'll lose a bit of power and chances are, it'll run rough. Adblu is only cheap, so keep it topped up at regular intervals to save a lot of wasted money, like replacing the cat'.
  23. Phah... You thought that was your TV, and destroyed it cos you couldn't get a picture...
  24. Thanks guys, tried a few more knots now, along with different cord thicknesses and think I can see the issue now... Cheers again, Martin
