  1. looking for a new saw as the title would suggest i want something around the 70cc size currently using a sthil ms391 and am happy with that most of the time using a 16" bar it is however underpowered on anything larger than that and i would ideally like to have a saw that will pull a 24"chain with power to spare if i decide to get a small Alaskan mill i have a limited budget at the moment and would like to keep it below £700 pre vat altho in an ideal would below £600 would be better. what are peoples opinions on the following? huski 365 xtorque this is my preferred option purely on price 372 xp, 576xp, sthil ms441 or ms 461 heated handles would be preferred nut aren't essential i haven't got them now and dont miss them im just being a bit of a jess lol thanks in advance mike

  9. worst one i have done to date is https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1495951530677219.1073741835.1486436731628699&type=1 but could see how bad it was from the outside
  10. right it appears my phone has eaten the pics if anyone has a mill in the north east and wants to give it a go i can arrange a time to go view it im not after making millions from it but the customer has said if i can find a market for it then i can sell it and offset some of my cost to be fair i would give it away in exchange for either something made from either it or a similar tree or a few boards from it i would also provide some labour to whoever mills it as ive always wanted a chainsaw mill and funds don't yet allow
  11. should really of mentioned there's no way of getting whole round lengths out so would need to be milled on site
  12. pear tree unknown cultivar approx 24 inch diameter and clean stem for about 10 foot. lots of fairly straight branches at between 12 and 15 inch diameter no signs of rot from the outside. tree is located in norton near middlesbrough and is still standing i will get some photos of the tree put up as soon as i get chance. one of my regular garden maintenance customers has requested the tree be removed as she is concerned about it hitting houses behind it even after repeated assurance from both me and a local arborist that the tree is in good health
  13. Well possibly lol I have a pro lam bar approx two weeks old had about 8hours work mostly layland Cyprus chain swapped once and bar flipped it seems that the chain has too much sideways play in it there's still clearance when I hold a straight edge to it but not as much as I would expect (less than half mm) is this normal or do I need to return it any help greatly appreciated
  14. Also there's less than half a mm clearance between straight edge and the bar when I put it against a cutter
  15. Lol don't be sorry it's the first thing I checked it's definitely a 1.6mm chain on a supposed 1.6mm bar I've just had it out back buried in some sycamore right up until it found a nail it was cutting straight am going to borrow a set of calipers to measure chain and grove but am thinking it's going to have to go back to rob d
  16. not really compared to my last one that was completely worn out thing is i cant see how after only 8 hours it could be worn it still has paint on the rails i have considered that im just being paranoid due to the last bar been so worn it stopped cutting at all i might have a drive to the dealers this afternoon armed with a straight edge to see how the saws on the shelf compare
  17. just measured the grove in the rail its about 1.8mm the chain gauge is 1.6mm is this about right?
  18. How much sideways play is too much in a chain I ask because I have just replaced my worn out sthil bar with a Sugihara pro lam bar new chain and new sprocket I have only used the bar for around 8 hours and have flipped it once in that time I have just stripped the saw for its weekly clean and noticed more play in the chain than I would expect on a new bar I have dressed the bar and reassembled the saw and having put a straight edge against a cutter there is a small clearance between the edge and the bar it just seems less than I would expect is there an acceptable amount of play or should I send the bar back

  20. If it's the one I think it is from memory the darker wood was about 8 inch although I could be way off the mark I've been told I'm terrible for over estimating size
