  1. Tricky burgers these things, I've done a couple now and I'm never quite happy with them. I know what's buggin me about it now looking at the photos, tell me what yers think. Thanks for looking.
  2. Ta, how'd you know 'twas ma birthday?
  3. Cheers all.
  4. Sweet owls Si, your own style for sure, which is saying something when it comes to carving.
  5. Great work.
  6. Cool, different.
  7. Lovely job!
  8. Did this little fella on Tuesday.
  9. I did time lapse this with a go pro, my first play with it so I've not sorted it out yet, I'll try get it together and post. Maybe try TL the squirrel tomorrow too.
  10. Not that big, meerkat is about 4ft but it's on a slope down to a stream so just awkward more than anything. I netted it too to try catch most of the debris.
  11. Little squirrel stump tomorrow. I'll post pics.
  12. Too good for firewood. I like it!
  13. Thank you!
  14. It took me roughly 7 hrs, give or take. Scaffold added another 2, up and down.
  15. Thanks for the comments all.
  16. Make me another!
  17. First of the year, and a few to go. I'm going to try make a go of carving this year, and let building work go. It's a scary step, but it's what I love doing. This is, I think, my best meerkat yet. Biggest anyway. Wish me luck! Comments, criticism, all welcome. Ta!
  18. Both beauties! The owl though is amazing! Can I buy it?
  19. I can't get these right, mine look like parrots. I agree with Ukulian though. Easy enough to push that "hood" back bit by bit and see how it changes and looks. With that longer hood and shorter beak it gives it more of a vulture feel. I also think what looks like a mouth/lips under the beak looks a bit weird, but I'm no expert, that's just my opinion...you did ask.
  20. I know the feeling, I'm rarely happy with the results of my carving, and usually spot where I went wrong, what I'd do better next time etc. I see the positives in others carvings but mine bug me. Also, I too will spend longer trying to get it right to my financial disadvantage, but the work reflects on you as a carver, so if I can see what's up with my piece, chances are so will others. But you have to say "done" at some point. I've not yet attempted a bear, so I'm no expert, but from ones I've seen yours stands up pretty well against. A great turnaround, and skill to see past what you'd already sculpted. I kinda liked the charm/character and sheepish look of the first head, but the reworking is much better. Excellent work again sir!
  21. Nice! I'm no footy fan myself but even I recognise that. One of the first things I tried to carve was a ball, harder than you'd think hey! Didn't go to town on it and it was eggy.
  22. Very nicely done sir!
  23. Great job dude! Posture, attitude, fur texture, spot on!
  24. Check these out, they're kind of like rough sawn and unfinished but it's the looseness of style I find appealing, not sanded to death, but the cuts that are there are meant to be there, hard to describe what I'm on about. I reckon you've got some of that going on, hence keep doing what you're doing.
  25. Why thank you kind sir! I lurked in the shadows for a long time before getting up the nerve to show any of my work. The guys on here are sound tho, and they'll be honest about the carvings too. I really like the bull, the style reminded me of some pics I saved from somewhere a while ago, can't tell you who made them unfortunately but they're awesome, I'll try find em.
