  1. One of the coal merchants' I know had his cabstar in for repairs and was given a crew cab tipper for the day. On the weigh bridge it tared in at 2600 kilos without him so gave a payload of 800 kilos. He drove out with two tonnes of coal on the back.
  2. Thanks. Started making a note of what's in the hedgerows round my fields.
  3. Looking in a gardening book Japanese Holly looks ok any problems with this?
  4. Found this growing in the hedge I think it's a type of maple. The leaves have 3 lobes and the stems are red.
  5. Thanks. I'll just trim it away from the hedge and house for this year and give it a good cut after flowering next spring. Any advice what to plant as a hedge. Mine has died back in patches and will probably be pulled up over the winter. I don't want a conifer hedge and preferably something with a small leaf to take a trim and stay neat.
  6. Hopefully here are a few pics of my magnolia
  7. This is why I'm a coal man not an arborist
  8. I thought magnolia was called a tulip tree from the shape of the flowers
  9. My magnolia is now against the hedge and i have to duck to mow underneath. When's the best time to cut it back and do i just trim or remove some lower branches altogether? Thanks.
  10. Thanks I'll try to post some pics when it flowers.
  11. I've got a Magnolia tree in my front garden about18 foot tall. The base and trunk are covered in moss up to 2 ft and some branches have a fair bit too. Is this causing any damage?
  12. Thanks but I'm looking to buy already netted by the pallet if possible.
  13. Builders' merchants in our area have bags stating minimum contents 800kg
  14. I'm a coal merchant and am thinking of supplying logs and kindling as well. Are there any suppliers local to South Wales area?
  15. I think to be mobile you only need it on skids so it's movable on site.
  16. I had an 06 3 litre for last 4 years and pulled like a train with a 2 tonne load of coal . Some rust issues not helped by the cab not a tilt but a good reliable work horse. Recently I've bought a new one with the 2.5 turbo. Legal payload is only 1.2 tonnes and I'm averaging over 30 to the gallon mainly short stop and start journeys. Almost all the local coal merchants are buying these now.
  17. Excellent. The same colour as my lurcher too.
  18. Have you thought of a nissan cabstar. Older ones are 3 litre turbos and a payload of over a tonne and drives like a car. New ones are 2.5 with 6 gears and traction control on the back axle for sticky moments. I,ve had both and the new one is averaging just over 30 to the gallon.
  19. I was driving through Aberdare last week and saw this slogan on an arborists' pick up. Didn't catch the name but made me smile. If it's up we'll cut it down. If it's down we'll cut it up.
  20. Heavy rain here today with water coming up from the drains instead of down! More forecast for tomorrow.
  21. 6' 2' and 15 1/2 stone recently gone up to 36" waist as 34" was getting a bit snug. I'm 53 and have been a coal man for the last 28 years.
  22. There should be a bleed screw on the fuel pump. Open it a bit and turn over the engine until the air bubbles stop. You may also have to loosen an injector if it doesn't fire after bleeding the pump.
  23. A fair amount of timber been cleared so far. Was the bank starting to move as a lot of the trees seem to be leaning towards the road?
