  1. We've all been there in our yoof, in my 20s I was a mobile engineering type covering the whole of the UK excluding London/South East. 1000s miles a week wasn't unusual, so 12+ hour days with two 3 hour jobs per day with an hour's drive in-between, excluding emergency weekend call outs to the south east repairing some else's bodged jobs. Mileage got so bad they couldn't insure the lease van and I ended up in a hatchback, plus side I was paid milage whilst running LPG. These days anything more than 40 miles away and the next day I'll pay the price physically and be rewarded with a cracking headache. Plus I think today's roads are worse, I remember doing the snake pass almost every day and at cough cough speed. You can't even do the 40 let alone the 60+ of the past.
  2. If it's a diesel Karcher even the lead on the machine gets a bit warm, 2.5mm should be fine.
  3. Yeah, stainless can be a right pain in the arse compared to aluminium ones. Have you tried the next size up length wise, sometimes it's better to use the longer size with a washer on the inside. Also helps to reinforce the hole and spread the force so they're less likely to rip through and come loose.
  4. I'm guessing the nail was getting stuck inside the mechanism?. I have had that happen usually when the rivets aren't the correct compression length for the application, so you end up going to town and it locks onto the mandrel.
  5. Wouldn't it be a fuel pump version as the tanks usually a way from the engine ?
  6. They do a little keyring one for climbing
  7. And the emperor's new clothes are so resplendent.
  8. Personally I'd prune them both to ground level, being 3 ft to the wall and 6 ft from the house will not be good in the long term. Maybe a hedge or a few shrubs but not holly. Something that's easy to remove if it gets large without a root system that'll undermine the house or the footpath.
  9. Concreting or tree work?
  10. I thought every fly by nights tool of choice was a pole saw ?
  11. Whilst it's been a long time since I was an apprentice, albeit briefly as back then it was like £70 a week but that came with conditions. I don't think your actually employed as an apprentice, they're usually government funded and these things come with lots of strings attached to prevent what's happening. Or tax breaks, I'm sure someone will have a better explanation?.
  12. Shouldn't you also be going to college as part of the apprenticeship as I presume you're not on full wage ?.
  13. Why are you working it out per hour, it's not Tesco and using that mentality means less pay in winter!. Know you're day rate and work backwards, £350 per person as a guide for tree work, more people just means more jobs per day tho.
  14. Auto electrician might be a good idea or maybe an agricultural repair company, as they have to be jack of all trades these days. It's more about mindset than brand etc, most garage types are just parts cannon types. But yeah, what's the equipment.
  15. Conifer mafia
  16. From what I've read and seen it's grandad not granny 😉
  17. I wonder if they'll be telling me to line up for my monkey pox jab, greater good and all that BS. Strange how it popped up in Sweden, I thought sex tourism would have been to Sweden not Africa.
  18. Probably the WHO, all the sheep like listening to their masters as they slowly pour just enough gruel into the trough to make them feel listened to.
  19. Still in the box with the safety glasses
  20. Well, having a "Kiln" would be a start. Seasoned maybe, but you might be pushing it for February unless you've the covered outdoor space
  21. That's not how you drug test the staff 😉
  22. Turn up with a Makita, just for a laugh
  23. Old petrol & diesel absorb water from the air due to the ethanol content in petrol and HVO in diesel. Diesel gets bacterial bloom, don't see why petrol couldn't over a long period of time.
  24. Ask if they rent them for the course, no point buying a small saw just for the course if you need 18". Most places do rent them, plus you'll find if your Stihl or Husqvarna
  25. Isn't new, we did it with inflatable tanks, fake lights near big cities etc. Granted you might need to fake a magnetic and heat signature these days.
