Hedgesparrow, what are HCC guidelines? I wouldn't dare work without public liability. I was just wondering if there is anything stating that it is. It's more knowledge to show customers.

Has anyone had to deal with Arborisk for a claim? I'm extremely wary of choosing cheapest as I'm four months into a still unresolved car insurance claim and been through a horror of an ordeal because I went for the cheapest option. I've only just sent away my Sole Trader application to the HMRC this morning and have started shopping about for public liability insurance. Also, is public liability insurance a legal requirement and are there any other insurances legally required?

The Stihl HT 131 and the Husqvarna 327PT5S are the two offered at the top end of these brands pole pruner lines. Can the 0.9kW Husqvarna compete with the 1.4kW Stihl? I have been using the Stihls for the past few years and it is very rugged and a great workhorse. The only reason to question is, I live on an island and have a Husqvarna dealer here. I might therefore get a better deal and support with the Husqvarna. Does anyone have a lot of experience with the Husqvarna?

That's a great price for the seller. Must find out the winning bidder's name! I never thought of ebay as being a source for milled wood too.

Where can I find a current valuation of woods? Also, if the longer the plank commands a higher price, will the same lengthxwidth board be more valuable if thicker cut?

I use those Reeboks for work! I find because they're class 2, my feet sweat a bit much

What is the LOLER approach to discarding a rope? Say a 48, 24 or 16 strand rope is damaged, how many strands would it take for each to be condemned?

Hello all, A fellow worker and I are looking to take a week's holiday this December to try out arboriculture or forestry abroad. Does anyone have any knowledge of where does it much different from the UK or has a safe and professional approach with nice surroundings?

If you have any requirement for proper hi vis EN471, I use a Helly Hansen Narvik jacket. Extremely waterproof and full zip so it can be opened right up to let heat out

I have posted in the Training And Education area but I think more eyes will see it here. I'm looking for somewhere to practise felling cuts, rigging, climbing (especially rescues). I live in Paisley in Scotland so somewhere not too far would be ideal. I'm not looking to do work for free and therefore stop someone making money. Is there maybe a charity owned woodland that can't afford work that anyone knows of?

Hello, I am seeking opportunities to practise felling, climbing, rigging...pretty much all techniques we all use daily. In work, we are under pressure to get work done so the experienced are hired in and we take our places and we all fire away until we can go home. Experience in new areas can not be achieved. Our only training is our courses which is only a short time and are primarily to tick boxes to keep us on sites as subcontractors. I'm looking for a relaxed pace to spend time to understand and perfect accuracy, speed, confidence and more. Do you know if charities or good causes that means I'm not taking someone's work away from them by doing it for free?

Really, really waterproof, tough as canvas, the breathability won't cope as well as your work pace to keep you dry of sweat. It can be a mission to take off when need be too. Helmet off then a straight-jacket-like fight. I had one and it lasted more than a year then an armpit ripped open putting it on but since the price has went up, I have started wearing a Helly Hansen Narvik jacket. Full zip on the front for better cooling, two pockets, EN471 too and easy to put on and remove

Which parts of a Husvarna serial number plate tell me what? Can I find out date of manufacture at least?

I've almost always had Pros too. But a good alternative I've been looking at for a next pair are Arbortec's Fellhunter. It's like a super version of the Pro. Fellhunter Xpert Chainsaw Boot Class 3 - Arboriculture - Footwear This is the Class 3 boot, there is a class two version and the prices on Arbortec's site are much higher than in shops.

Question is in the title lads. I've been in the business for around four years, I'm 28, my back is in great nick and I would like to keep it that way. I lift with good technique, had a manual handling course and came across such devices to help keep my technique from getting bad as the day goes on. Do you of you wear one every day?

It's so common, mines and litter, that I've taken to using the blower to clean a site before working. Does a good job and minimises stones from rakings too.

I've had an Apple phone on a Vodafone contract for nearly two years and this past month, I've had No Service quite a lot. My reception has always been amazing up until now too. Especially in remote areas
