  1. Sounds like you could go into business making these, maybe ask around and get a few done... ...certainly let me know if you get any on the lathe as youd have a buyer. Sounds like it the work of the underground carvers..

  3. Many thanks friars...I think he's heavier but then again I was completely K.O'd at the end. It was the biggest piece I had around and thought...bugger it, its now or never....
  4. Well, 2 short days, (1st day marking out and block carving, 2nd day detailing and staining) My first attempt ended up as fire wood so don't worry. This time I took smaller cuts out of it so not to ruin it and took 90% of the time marking it out...

  9. Thanks for all the advice guys, iv gone with a stain finish and will further protect it after..having panic guessed the colour I think it went well and looks good..pics to follow later :-)

  12. Hi all, Anyone recommend a good finish for a carved brown/black bear. Looking through wood stains etc and was seeing if anyone has used any and which colours would go well. (For the fur, that is) cheers
  13. iv roughly marked it out, then block cut it, finishing it with flap discs and dremel :-)
  14. Axe splitting, just need to shape the handle a little more and then give it a few coats.
  15. Reading through the tips, all are super..going back to the fixing a carving whilst working on it (instead of using feet & hands) I read people use work benches but has anyone a scissor jack if you know what I mean?

  18. This afternoon I thought id have a go at a bear on some easy scots pine. Isn't finished yet but planning to do the usual welcome sign held on to. Not sure how to carry it on from here so some advice would help. Especially on the arms and hands. Its slightly out of proportion but all good practice. Iv only done mushrooms in the past so thought id try something more challenging:001_smile:

  24. cracking job. Id leave the bark on...on do and they seem to do well as it gives it more of a natural look
