  1. MS180 has a non-adjustable carburettor doesn't it?
  2. Strictly it's the other way round, 0.75kW is roughly 1HP. 65W is still less than 1/10 of a HP.
  3. Turning colder here, but surely people would have got their winter stocks in by now? One factor maybe was last year's mild winter - we only used around 3/4 of the wood I had stacked ready, so we need less for this winter.
  4. Thanks. I've had the clutch off to check out the oiling worm and gear, everything's clean behind there.
  5. Hi, With my newly acquired MS180 the chain moves a little when idling, the occasional jerk of an inch or so. With the bar removed the clutch drum/sprocket spins all the time the engine's running, although it can be held still with relatively little pressure. Idle speed is set as low as it can be, the screw won't move any further. The needle bearing seems fine, and I've given it a bit of grease, inside of the clutch drum appears clean and undamaged. Worth replacing the clutch springs as a matter of routine? Or is there anything else worth checking? Thanks, Tony S
  6. Do Aspen have a high carriage charge, or minimum carriage-pad order value? That might be why the local dealers are selling at over £25.00.
  7. Cheers. I wonder how well it will work angled. When I used a blade on the back of a small tractor it used to push the tractor to the side if the blade was angled too much. That only really worked for clearing an area (like you say) rather than ploughing a track. I think for the latter you really need a V plough and to keep moving fast enough.
  8. How do you find that? We were thinking of getting a blade for the Defender ourselves. Does the blade angle, or do you just shove the snow forwards? Currently using this, which a bit slow but at least can clear where there's nowhere to the side for a plough to push the snow ..

Inverted or negative G operation is about the fuel system as well as lubrication. How about a drone engine, if 38HP is enough for you? AR741 - 38 BHP
  10. Their offer doesn't seem to be limited to people close by either. I'd put in myself if I were buying firewood.
  11. How will you dry it? Kindling needs to be bone dry to work really well. We get a lot of Ash twigs, and I get the feeling it doesn't try particularly quickly, perhaps because of the bark.
  12. Wrong end of the country for me unfortunately. Out of interest if that's two tons green, what would that weigh once seasoned, and how many cubic metres would it equate to?
  13. We used around 2 cu m last winter, 4kW stove and only used between 2 and 4 hours a day. (Edit - 90% hardwood, mainly Ash)
  14. Look or ask around for wood turning people, they like most fruit woods. You might be able to sell some of it at a premium.
  15. Too right - especially as the chain actually on my saw doesn't even look like any of them - yet the manual says it's 91VG.
  16. I've also seen 91P, 91PX, 91VG (which what my electric saw specifies) and 91VLX, trouble is different sources seem to have different options so it's not clear what the differences actually are between them.
  17. Petition signed, but round here Aspen's £25-30 for 5 litres, nice idea but I can't imagine paying that.
  18. This is quite a good site for discussion/guesswork about UK weather .. TheWeatherOutlook - latest UK weather forecasts, reports and news
  19. Is it just me, or do those Echo models look to be at least as expensive as the equivalent Stihl?
  20. Out of interest, why do you want to do that? Is it because there's a better selection of chains in that size? I was actually wondering about going the other way, converting to 0.043 on that basis that a thinner cut would use less power, but that was only a vague idea since the bar and chain have plenty of life in them still.
  21. The story I heard was this was something to do with changing distribution channel as part of their takeover by Alko. Presumably the prior distributor ended up with some written off stock, hence them suddenly appearing at knockdown prices. Local dealer has them on the shelf for £299.00 with 15" bar - that's the only non Stihl saw in his shop.
  22. Funny you should say that, I've just received a second-hand Stihl 180 from an Arbtalk member (thanks Jon). I prefer to have decent gear if I can afford it, I'm sure the 180 will be powerful enough for anything I have in mind right now.
  23. One think I'd say about Sanli is that the specifications look poor if you read the detail. They're selling their 38cc machine with a 16" bar, but the motor has no more power than a Stihl MS170 (1.2kW). I saw a few recommendations for Echo, but they seemed to be just as expensive as Stihl, except for their very bottom model which I thought too small for what I needed.
