  1. Firstly if this is in the wrong place I apologise and could admin move it, cheers Iv been asked by my boss to sit in on interviews next week for a new groundsman, we are only a small company (3 man gang) We are taking on someone from the job centre under a scheme where they have to be between 18-25 and on the dole for over 6 months, and we can get funding up to £5000 for their training. My boss would be doing the most of the talking and questions but he's asked me to figure some questions out, apart from the obvious is there anything you guys would be asking considering some of these lads might of never done a honest days work?
  2. Exuse me if I'm wrong but isn't that the idea of a forum?
  3. There's a hair dressers by us called "curl up and dye" Good job iv got no hair haha
  4. Sorry if this is in the wrong place but does anyone on here do loler inspections (or know anyone who does in Birmingham?) posting on behalf of my gaffa so could just do with a few names & numbers to pass on, cheers
  5. Blank firing tripwires??? Where's the fun in that?? Haha
  6. I always clip the saw back to my harness, saves the ropes and the saw, a petzl caritool is useful for this, I'm with the upside down gob cut too
  7. I know it's not good but it could of been a hell of a lot worse,Hope it heals well bud, very lucky in my books!
  8. And another
  9. It was a few years ago but I remember it clearly, I was up a large black poplar,we had 2 pulleys placed 2/3 of the way up the crown, equally placed to spread the load and all that, anyhow we were all rigged to take a big chunk of log off, so the groundy tensioned the lowering line with our recently aquired gcrs winch and sent me up the ms440, I was in a slightly awkward position so I opted for a step cut, after thinking I'd made a decent cut I shouted down to the groundy to get winding on the winch, after 10-20 mins of shouting back & forth about it getting hard to wind, me doing a bit more cutting and me saying keep going I hear a crashing sound I look up to see we had actually winched most of the top of the tree out, I decended straight away and got through quite a few smokes!! Il never underestimate our gcrs again!!
  10. This sounds all too familiar, I'm in exactly the same situation but my mind is split into two. One half of me thinks that he's part of the team and should be pulling the same as everyone else On the other hand he's the boss, he's earnt the right to do his own thing and point the finger, god knows how many blokes are out there that would jump at my job. It's a tough call Although personal lives shouldn't come into work time but something serious might be happening behind the scenes, affair, marriage breakup, illness??
  11. I'm with the zubat myself, gotta say though it does come into its own on the right jobs
  12. Horatio is not bullying by any means, he's basically just said if the kid can't do anything but drag & rake your gonna want him to do it quick and with passion! Just to make sure he ain't getting to the chipper then getting on his phone to text his mom then his mrs then update his Facebook status and maybe take a few selfie photos!!! By the time you get out the tree, he's phoning round for moped insurance and you've got a garden full of crap.
  13. I must admit running is a bit excessive but I get the point that's being made, iv been with my gaffa for 11-12 years now, I was fresh meat from the job centre but what's kept me in a job is when he says work I say how hard! And now he's on holiday while I run things (can't be bad eh?) and I didn't sit around to get that respect. The fact is that 90% of fresh lads can't grit their teeth and get on with it they all want the money but don't want to work, iv seen lads come on site and walk back off by lunch! there are good, hard working lads out there but they are getting harder and harder to find
  14. Went to apply ms200t chain brake with the palm of my hand and my hand kinda Rolled around it and did this, 7 stitches and one to hold the tendon together. Fully healed now as it was 4 years ago
  15. Watch out for the hippy squads aswell, if you start dropping trees and they turn up it could mean some bad publicity. it happened to a company near us a few years back and they ended up on itv news, not a good look
  16. It probably is my "photography skills" haha our gaffa thought it was a mulberry tree?? Only god knows where that came from 😄
  17. Is it 😳 how embarrassing ha, it's the first one iv come across (not much else than the usual in south brum haha) I was just going by this article
  18. Indian bean are in flower season now and have long draping seed pods I only found that out today 😄
  19. For some peace of mind tie a sling or a bit of old rope around the trunk just underneath your cut,and over your anchor point, that with what's already been said you should be safe as houses 👍
  20. I know what you mean, I think I nearly passed out after my first one, seeing the trunk snake around underneath me was heart attack material but I got some kind of faith in them now, here's a few from the last one I tackled
  21. It's ok if the groundy makes it slow gradually, iv had a few tops snatch the rope rather quick and I must say the air was blue haha
  22. I love pops! Especially lombardi's, They still give me that buzz when I do the last top cut
  23. You could, but there wouldn't be much left at all 😄
  24. I agree, I'd never want to let ours go without a replacement
