Had a play today just removing a small branch from a cedar, was great!! Only a small tree but a good little practice. I threw a throw line up, and was pleased I didn't have to isolate a branch in the busy canopy!! Ascending was a bit fiddly- but can tell once I've got that sussed it will be effortless! Getting out on a limb- was ok, nice only having a short tail hanging to the ground. Bad points: Hitch wouldn't bite properly- very off putting! I'll have to work out what HAAS is Felt silly carrying 30 things with me up into the tree! Had to remove hitch to put rope up, then remove it again to put rope away. Didn't get a chance to try swapping to a tip tie as I didn't like my hitch. So my questions are: What's a good friction hitch and hitch cord to use? I'm on Yale kernmaster 11mm. Whatever I tie with whatever cord doesn't seem to bite nicely. The Knut on a short 70cm eye to eye cord didn't grab after an ascent, didn't realise smoothly and after trying to stop descending felt like it slipped a bit further down! I've tried 70cm stein 8mm, 75cm Yale beeline 10mm, 90cm ocean polyester 8mm (far too long). Nothing seems to bite the kernmaster nicely I used a RH pantin, 2 hand ascenders and a foot loop from left hand ascender to left foot. Felt a bit fiddly, what should I improve there? I assume most people like to keep a short length of rope below them to reach the ground? Would make it easier to move the tail around the tree and means you don't have to get all the rope out for small trees. What's the best way of doing this? I pulled just enough rope through with throw line, then attached my hitch. Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks Charlie.

I thought it was 60 for a car/van with a trailer on a dual carriageway A road? 50mph over 3.5tons?

Sorry for the slow reply. Thanks for all your input- I think I have a plan for the trees now- although not encouraging epi growth maybe difficult! Big thing I had overlooked is the woodchip attracting more beetles, thanks alec.

Due a new climbing kit, and want to try something different from my hitch climber. The 2 things I struggle with and would like to change- I struggle to climb up the rope, I find the old prussik easier as I have bad wrists and can't grip hand over hand. I never found an ideal knot on the hitch climber, was always either too tight, or too loose (scary!!) Also what harness would be a safe bet? Never got on with my tree Austria duo 2, maybe a tree motion, tree motion light version or a petzl sequoia? Any advice would be welcome.

How do you find it? Have you compared them to a quad chip? What's the sloping infeed like to live with? Anyone know how they improved the bearings and/or flywheel fins? Thanks.

I've got a stihl HS81r with is great for rough stuff, would be nice to get something with a nicer finish. What are single sided ones like to use? I've never used one. 40" cut looks handy- any others to look at but stihl 86t, husky 226hs99 and echo 341es to look at? Thanks

Thank you. It's a 2006. To me, the position of the flywheel looks set by the large single bearing, and it's housing? Just don't understand how the shims on the 2 bearing side alter the position of the flywheel.

Thank you. Doesn't quite make sense to me! Just holds out the centre of the flywheel casing?

Putting my TW150 back together, is the anvil gap adjustable or is it set? Seems a little big. Someone told me the 20thou shims under the 2small bearings change the anvil gap but I don't see how? Any help appreciated. Charlie.

Crown reductions to hopefully stop them failing... Very decayed at the base. Can't find any UK based info, but in the US they don't prune april-July as that's when the beetle is most active, and the open wounds attract the them. Is it safe to assume the European elm bark beetle is active at a similar time of year?

I don't get anything like that from a set. I'm turning them every 30-60mins
