  1. Ex-VAT prices often quoted there.
  2. Peasgood

    Saino's

Got mine from there a week or two back, eggsellent price too. All sold when I went in on Friday.
  3. Just in case you never saw it Heinnie Haynes - Knives, Pocket Tools and Accessories
  4. My favourite, but probably only because it is the most recent.
  5. Thanks for the link, some stunning pictures.
  6. I think the tip at Wardle is still open. Try that in Google
  7. It would be even nicer if they dropped onto a splitter first. One step at a time
  8. Used it for the first time recently. Fergie sawbench on a MF35 with a Lister bale elevator adapted to catch the logs off the saw. I am impressed with it. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqjfa37wGtA]saw+elevator-youTube[/ame]
  9. Buy a brush and do it yourself Costs about the same as paying a sweep, free after that. Can't say I would want to have my chimney on fire for the sake of not paying a sweep anyway.
  10. http://www.atkinson-walker-saws.co.uk/ELECTRONIC%20CATALOGUE.pdf Plate saw blade is what you want, lower down on the catalog. Awesome blades! No way a chainsaw can touch them for speed.
  11. Some of his work, at 65. (the leylandii, the apple is my job) He did all of that row and more. Dropped, logged and tidied. My 6' son in the pic for scale.
  12. I would prefer him not to use a chainsaw but it would be a bit of a challenge to actually stop him. As long as the business itself is not putting itself in the line of prosecution i am a lot happier about it. Yes he has used a saw before, I would say in his year of retirement he quite probably used a saw more than I will in my whole life and I do a fair bit.
  13. Thanks for your help in pointing me towards it.
  14. http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf This means everyone working with chainsaws on or in trees should hold such a certificate or award unless: ■ it is being done as part of an agricultural operation (eg hedging, clearing fallen branches, pruning trees to maintain clearance for machines); and ■ the work is being done by the occupier or their employees; and ■ they have used a chainsaw before 5 December 1998. In any case, operators using chainsaws for any task in agriculture, or any other industry, must be competent under PUWER 98.
  15. I guessed that really but wanted to know off you experts. Thank you for your help. I will go and hide his saw EDIT: I was replying to Felix rather than Wuss there.
  16. I was expecting the cameraman to get a face full of log any minute.
  17. Thank you. "he has to be trained" does that mean certificates or will "I showed him how to do it" suffice? I expect it means certificates but "adequate training" doesn't always result in a certificate. Or is it a case of "as I am the employer the best way to ensure proof of training is to be able to show a piece of paper" He's my Dad, he isn't going to take me to court if he does have an accident (God forbid) but I do need the business itself to be covered.
  18. On our T20 if you press the clutch the pto stops. It has to or how else would you get it in/out of gear. Or did you mean the tractor itself stops? It does need the pto to be in gear for the hydraulics to work. Also have 2 MF35s that have two stage clutches, press so far for gearbox then further for pto clutch. They don't need the pto to be in gear for the hydraulics to work. (much better) The 3 cylinder diesel is much more sought after as the 4 cylinder has a big reputation for being a poor starter, especially from cold.
  19. I am a partner in a farming business. We have ex/retired partners that do some work for us now and then and are paid on an hourly basis. Basically it amounts to my dad has retired completely from the business but does a bit when he can and gets paid accordingly. I assume he is now classed as an employee so where do we as a partnership stand if he decides he wants to go and cut up some trees down the fields in a work situation rather than a gathering firewood scenario. No tickets and no ppe obviously. He's my Dad, I know all about the wrongs of no ppe. I just want to know the legal position for the partnership if you could. Thanks
  20. Are the wounds not physical rather than fungal? They look well healed .
  21. Looks more pear than apple to me.
  22. Mine is a Brosely Suprema. Discontinued model that does all hot water and heating too. I don't have an electric cooker any more. They have gone up a lot in recent years, possibly due to the steel prices going up. Good cookers but you can't shut mine right down to keep it in over night. Might be its size and the fact I use Leylandii rather than hardwood. I wouldn't go back unless I won the lotto or summat.
  23. What do you think of it on a bad day?
  24. My central heating, hot water and cooking run entirely on Leylandii logs. That's in a big old draughty farmhouse with little or no insulation. I have taken my socks off because it is too hot in here tonight. They burn a bit quick and spit too but fine in a fire with doors on it. They are very hot and produce practically zero ash. If seasoned outside for a couple of years the sap disappears, the sticky sap is the only real downside. I reckon on burning summat like 20 tons or more a year. Said to the missus today "you burn as much as you like, I will make sure there is always plenty there" and reminded her that she probably doesn't know anybody else that is "allowed" the heating on full blast as much as they like.
