  14. He's a big boy. I'm sure he'll be ok.
  15. Bob, If it was my machine I would have laughed at the guy. It was a colleagues first brand new chipper. I didn't have the heart to say anything.
  16. Having been at first recently collecting a new st6 with a colleague. We were told the following:- "The pipes are designed to split if over greased, better the pipes split than have too much grease shoved into a bearing"
  17. All of the above is tosh. If you are climbing anything with a rope and harness on then you need a system in place to rescue you if the worst case scenario happens. Regardless of what you are doing in the tree. Imagine this. A simple slip with a whack to the chin resulting in temporary unconsciousness. You are now hanging from a harness with the batman/woman running round like a headless chicken. How long will it take help to get there? The building trade routinely work in harnesses and every single time have a rescue system in place. Saying "self rescues" is utter nonsense when you've just had a clutcher up in the tree. Regards Richard
  18. ER written in the trees just upstream of Monmouth.
  19. Try the Devon wildlife trust, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
  20. It's dead and adjacent (1.5m) to a road. The owner has no appetite for any form of retention.
  21. I'd Didn't spot that before posting, oops.
  22. Hi all. Found these underneath a dead Horse Chestnut. My theory is they are feeding off the decaying root system as they are all over the area within the drip line. The trees coming down anyway as it's right next to road. Just wondered if anyone knows what they are and agrees/disagrees with my theory. Thanks in advance everyone. Richard
  23. Timber Man. Thanks for this advice, I was not aware of differing rope types. So useful info. I'll be using this length of wire between the winch hook and the load so it won't be wound round the drum. It will be a straight pull onto a bow shackle. Thanks also to others who suggested suppliers. Regards Richard.
  24. Hi all, I need a length of wire rope, can anyone suggest a retailer. 50m ish eye at both ends to suit 6ton winch. Its to extend my winch line to pull over an awkward tree. Thanks for your help guys. Richard.
  25. That's bad news Al. Hope you get sorted asap.
