  1. We sell these for £15 and £5. People love them. They're a great talking point at a party.
  2. Have a look at LANTRA website. They will give you a lot of advice and help you to find funding in your area. Have a look at your local college as well.
  3. In my opinion people are too narrow minded. If you want to work you will do anything not just focus on your chosen vocation. My wife left the NHS a couple of years ago to have our 2 children. 2 months ago she decided that she should go back to work part time mainly to bring money in but also to get her out again in a daytime. She has been working now for about 6 weeks. An application to Tesco on a Saturday night resulted in an interview the following Tuesday, although she didn't get the job a week later she was told of a couple selling items on ebay literally further down our street. There are 5 people working there now, they pack 14000 items a week. It's only minimum wage but there's no travel costs and they are flexible as to how she puts her time in. I really think each parish should have people cleaning streets/working in the village to keep it tidy that are claiming benefits through lack of work. Make them earn it. Each Monday people could go to the market place to see what work is available - seems like I'm going backwards 100 years. It's just a thought?
  4. We took a company to the small claims court for none payment for a pallet of briquettes. I didn't really want to give him 30 days credit but agreed to with an extra £50 charge. 2 weeks after delivery they asked for another pallet. I asked for payment for the first and then I would have delivered the second one. They didn't like that and said that was an odd way to run a company! 3 months later they still hadn't paid so started with the small claims court. They left everything right up until the last minute for contacting and agreeing to use the court mediator - this saves you going to court but has to be at least 7 days before the court hearing. We ended up with an extra £160 with costs and expenses. Unbelievably they still didn't pay after agreeing to with the court mediator so I went to court, they didn't turn up so were issued with a CCJ. They called me that afternoon complaining about the CCJ, they sent a cheque that week. It was a long drawn out process but it worked in the end. If they don't keep in touch with you regarding payment, or offer to pay each month I wouldn't hesitate to use this method.
  5. My problem is that we only sell Beech. We've had a few customers ask for Cherry and Apple just as firewood. It put it in my mind to try different types of wood to see how they burn. I might look into the smoking side of it as well. Food that is, got to involve that as much as possible.
  6. Thank you very much for the English lesson, much appreciated! Could we stick to the actual question I'm sure you don't need to waste your time on posting such tedious comments. I will try harder..............
  7. Sorry. Never thought that you might not know what etc. meant. Just to clarify any type of fruit wood and also Yew, Hornbeam, Rowan..... Hope that helps to make it clearer. Yes to use as firewood.
  8. I should've added to buy. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/blushing.gif
  9. Just looking for any varieties of fruit woods, Yew, Maple, Hornbeam, Rowan anything a bit different within roughly 50 mile radius of Doncaster to collect. Doesn't have to be large quantities, up to a cubic metre would do.
  10. Keep your pecker up I've just liked your page. Looks like you're busy anyway. Regards Mark
  11. Our bit of vintage at this years Newby Hall tractor rally.
  12. Do you mind if I jump on the band wagon and ask you to like my page, the link is below. Mainly trying to get my log stores seen. Website will be up and running in the next month or so.
  13. We've just delivered 3 log stores to a Country Store 1 in Derbyshire and 2 in Yorkshire as display models with a cubic metre of hardwood logs in each one. They hold a loose cubic metre when stacked in.
  14. Just received a testimonial from a customer today - http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/images/smiliesmodern/biggrin.gif Hi Mark, many thanks for the wood store, after looking for a while and not finding one to suit our needs, this made to measure heavy duty store is just what we wanted. Kind regards Alan C. 9'x5'x2' took a bit of lifting...........
  15. We've just put an offer on our page in the directory for a discount on hardwood logs with every log store purchased. Please also have a look at and like our facebook page, details below. Thanks Mark
  16. I agree. I'm going to have to build some with the untreated timber. It would be foolish to say we wouldn't build anything else except what you see. My problem is being able to change ideas in my mind......once I've gone down one route it's hard to deviate. Change.......embrace it
  17. There are a lot on Ebay to varying standards and I'm obviously biased but I want to build quality and be at the top end of the market, not really for high value financially but more for the build. No worries with the website as we are having it built for the company as a whole so it's not really money being put into it just for log stores.
  18. Ok, so my prices aren't too far out when you add labour and profit. Please don't think I'm being critical or trying to hijack your thread, I'm just trying to work out costs for mine as a retail product. It shows how expensive wood, etc. can be and the differences of making a living out of it.
  19. Agree with all that. It looks good though and you've made it to your requirements. It's a good price if you've added in your labour?
  20. This is what I've just started to think. At these prices they have to be targeted at the wealthier customer. I could build a cheaper version but it worries me that it might not be up to standard and that's a good reputation gone. I've spoken to a few garden centres, they appreciate the quality but they want to know that they will sell. I can't even tell them which is the best seller. I wonder if it's the wrong time of year. I thought people might be planning to get logs into storage but I know most are last minute and I may have to wait until September to see things moving again. We are building a website so that will help get the word out. I think someone mentioned about working costs out and adding profit. I appreciate that but that comment has always infuriated me. When someone asks the question as to what a product/service should cost it is market research and part of trying to find out if the price in mind is cheap/expensive and where in the price range their product/service fits. I don't mean to offend but it's what I used to hear all the time from bank managers and business advisors.
  21. dont under sell them your better making a good profit than selling them with a tiny margin! I agree. I'd rather put plenty of time and effort into them and be pleased with what I sell. I am being a bit impatient though. I only started building them a couple of weeks ago and people have to fine out about them. I've started walking, now I really want to run.................
  22. Ok so you might have had enough of my log store thread but I really want to get this right and provide a store that people want/need. I'd like you all to post on here what you think our products are worth. I think the price is putting people off, or is it the wrong time of year to be marketing these? It's a difficult product to compare others to - most are made using feather edge, felt roofs, untreated timber. As requested I have built a larger store to hold 1.8 cubic metres. They are built to last with a 15 year guarantee by using tanalised timber. My original prices and details are below. Log Box - 1Hx1Wx1.2L The area inside is about .8 cu metre. £210 inc delivery erected. We can send it with dry, seasoned Beech hardwood logs and a net of kindling inside for an extra £70. The log box will hold just over a builders sack. Amount of logs delivered with the box will be about 180 - contents of 1 full builders sack of .71 cu metre. Small upright log store - 1.8Hx.5Wx.9L The area inside is about .8 cu metre. £240 inc delivery erected. Large upright log store - 1.8Hx.5Wx2.1L The area inside is about 1.8 cu metre. £315 inc delivery to erect yourself.
  23. We sell seasoned Beech at £85 a m3. People where ringing round for prices saying I'm not paying that much so I started doing builders sacks .71m3 at £65 - they love em. It's the price they look at, they would rather pay a lower price but don't compare the quantity.
