  1. Like I said Yale XTC ropes are fairly bomb proof and a nice rope to start on, I'd say use those for a few years then move on to something a little nicer (more expensive haha) like a tachyon or a New England high viz, because by then you will be less likely to damage it and make it last longer. But at the end of the day it's all personal preference you will soon figure out what works for you Sent using Rhinos Arbtalk Mobile App

  10. http://www.frjonesandson.co.uk/products-page/consumables/oils-lubricants/stihl-resin-solvent/ IMO buy some of this it's great for bars and silkys as well, but if you spray your rope with it then leave it an hour or so and put it in the washer on a 30 degree rinse and spin it will come out like brand new I do mine once every 3 months (give or take) and it works a treat Sent using Rhinos Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Try the teufelberger or marlow cord and a distel or schwabish (I buy them both from jonsies per m and make my own split tails) maybe a Knut if someone can show you to tie it? Sent using Rhinos Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Holy mother of all stump grinders! I want one!!! I'd like to ask one question though... What are they grinding?! You can't exactly get that in a tight back garden to grind out 3 stumps behind a shed and next to two fences can you!! Sent using Rhinos Arbtalk Mobile App

  14. IMO i would use a resistograph to check for any rot/weakness in the base of the stem as a minimum, depending on results maybe recommend an arial inspection and decreasing the compaction on the root plate. Sent using Rhinos Arbtalk Mobile App

  18. Cheers for that dervishcarving I might get a stihl one just to try it! I have used a few carving saws with carving bars and i understand what you mean with the back handle saws but i just cant afford or warrent the purchase of a new saw. I'm just looking for a bar and chain for one of my saws so i can practice for now, I've done a lot of wood carvings with chisels as my grandfather was a wood work teacher and left me three sets of carving chisels in his will. I've done quite a few chainsaw carvings with my standard bars and finished them with chisels but I would like to try and do a few with the chainsaw only I mean it can only improve my handling skills can't it ?! Cheers for the input Rhino
  19. How do rob, my name is Ryan I have been advised to speak to you about carving bars and chains, I have a ms260 and a ms200t which I use for carving I was hoping you would be able to advise me as to which bar, chain and sprocket would fit and work well on either of my saws? And if you sell them then what the damage to my wallet will be?

    Cheers for any info

    Rhino

  21. Hello there chaps and chapets, My name is Ryan and ive been carving for a while now (just for fun) using my ms260 and 200t with standard bars and half chisel chains on I know that there are saws made especially for carving but I'd rather stick with the saws I have! (Just can't afford new toys YET) so here's my question to you fine people, can anyone recommend some bars and chains which will fit my saws? And which are the best/worst bars? Any information you have will help me so please don't hesitate Cheers Rhino
