  1. I don't believe it! It's spat a circlip out! Twice in one week! Both were these god damn VEC pistons that tesgol has substituted for meteor pistons... Hopefully it hasn't gouged the cylinder Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. Wasn't expecting it to be THAT tight! But I suppose it's ideal if you want a super high compression saw without skimming the cylinder Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. 254 ported, base gasket off, muffler modded, tried to turn it over and it refused to do a full revolution, plug out and the piston crown touches the cylinder roof! Cylinder back off, base gasket reinstalled, sorted! Kicked it over to make sure it works, fine! So went to tune it, put 15" .325 bar and chain on (55cc, so seems reasonable assumption), wrong, 3/8 rim fitted and it's a standard 7 spline rim. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. Hot knife and thick strimmer cord Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Ehem, I'm younger than you pair (much) and I don't use an app... Other than arbtalk or YouTube... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. Also fixed a stihl 048 today, why people insist on using the green 2-stroke oil from petrol stations I'll never know, I've rebuilt more saws with seizes from that in a mix than anything else! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Yeah, I'll get it sorted, have managed to find the hyway big bore on eBay, just gotta wait till payday now -.- Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. As I work on utilities, no, that looks definitely like a shutdown job, wouldn't even pole that! Hell, we wouldn't have touched the tree! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Wasn't easy getting them apart either, had to whack seven sorts out of the saw to free it! Best get the 254 ported and rebuilt! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. No, one had come out, the side the piston had gouged, it had sheared in half, one piece was in the intake port, the other was in the crank base. And I think they were aftermarket, I know I had a right game getting the OEM piston off when I gained the saw as a seized wreck Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Well my porting wasn't at fault, but it's killed the cylinder! Circlip jumped out its slot! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Yes, then smoothed them, I've ran the saw a fair bit, it's just I dogged right in yesterday and covered the muffler for a few seconds too long, rather than pulling back and moving Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  13. Not yet, went bang earlier, will have a good look tomorrow, just a bit of a bugger as I was mid-cut on a pine trunk! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. I checked the plug, nice brown colour, but then one side was graphite grey, went with an almighty bang too! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. My 357, dogged right in and blocked the muffler Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. Right, I shall give that a go! Then order just a piston hopefully, but I reckon it'll be a new cylinder assembly! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. Right, I have a saw with a locked piston, anyone know how to free it? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. Both saws are muff modded, but the 357 is ported, and on a 7t rim outcuts my 560 on an 8t rim Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  19. Yes, that's what I meant spud, I just worded it poorly, my 385 is on a 36" bar, so the carb is tuned pretty lean just to make up the rpm, so should it be ported, I think the plug would turn jet black! Although I did price the 372 carb today, £140+!! Likewise, my 357 is wound all the way in and running the rich side of correct, on a 15" but I'll assume the 385's carb will fit (fingers crossed) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  20. Partner k650 seized (AGAIN!!), new piston fitted - used an 038 piston to give more air flow (windowed piston), runs like an angry bear now! Let's see how long it lasts before the owner kills it again! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Big saws

Just get an 051 and mod the bugger, unless you're running over 48" the auto-oiler will supply enough chain oil Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Big saws

Shhh! Don't tell anyone but I got that contra I turned into an 090 for £200! Seriously, contra's can be picked up for peanuts as nobody knows enough about them, the points usually need replacing or they've been shoved in a barn for 50 years and need new rubber bits to make them go! Mines 45 years old now and still runs like an angry panzer Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Big saws

One of these off eBay! Don't get much bigger than a contra, super, 070 or 090 An 050/1 or 075/6 Or maybe a 394/5xp, 390xp or 385xp or a stihl 064/066/650/660 I believe someone on here was trying to flog an 076 yesterday Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  24. That's a big yew tree! They take a long time to get 12" diameter, 2+ feet wide and you're probably talking around the same age as your home, if not more, have it reduced and thinned rather than felled, you'd be surprised how old these things turn out to be! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  25. What? How is this a question? I thought we'd reached a unanimous verdict on here that the stihl ms261 was a paperweight and under 70cc husky was the only option even plogs is getting one now! Honestly, the words used to describe the 261 are the kind that get you banned on here! I have never used such a gutless saw as the 261! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
