  1. Just look at my fingers as well before I put the gloves on. Have the training and super duper gear. That is well maintained. Just have to remember and open my crisp packets the right way up or it's going to be a scary shift.
  2. I would be interested in doing this distant learning course as well, was ready to sign up to the hcc course last year but glad I decided to think about it a wee bit longer. Price would be a deciding factor.
  3. Would be a bit of a boring CSI episode though
  4. Just make sure you don't put the mulch right up to the trunk. I leave an inch or so round the base of the trunk to prevent rot. Don't kill it with kindness either. Too much fertiliser or overwatering is just as bad as neglect.
  5. What silky was it? looks quite fine teeth.
  6. Got this recently and really nice to have actual photographs rather than drawings. http://www.summerfieldbooks.com/winter-trees%2C-a-photographic-guide-to-common--trees-and-shrubs~3747
  7. Hows your jacket?
  8. And they would drink anything flammable
  9. :thumbup1:Very nice, what wood is it? Are you painting the air filter cover to match the rest of your collection?
  10. it'll be like Ukraine is now. Only wetter!!! And wi bottles of ginger.
  11. I'll get a pic of my carving chain tomorrow Simon. That's good thinking with the Granberg. I made up a small wooden jig set over the bar and chain and used file on them. Think I tried the dremel, was a while ago. I used the older 91vx chain rather than 91vxl as the vx have slightly shorter tops to the cutters. The reason is when using a carving bar the back of the cutter when travelling around the tip is smoother as the back isn't catching the wood. Hope someone can explain better.
  12. I hope not Steve as I order a fair bit from the sponsors south of the border as well. Deans Whiskey thread may be under threat!!! Think I will sit the rest of this thread out and liberate my imagination.
  13. Right back at you Dean !! We are all a resilient bunch on these fair Isles. Things will sort themselves out. Bit of Faith. There are countries all over the world in the 21st century who have spilt blood to get independence/regime change. Scots living in Scotland have been given this right to make a change if they want. No blood spilt on any side. I'm going to use that right. If I knew all the answers I would be running for president, but I don't. We all have our interests. You might think it is head in the sand stuff. Here's the bigger picture. In millions of years time the sun is going to engulf the earth so we are all doomed anyway. So if I can vote to change that tiny speck of history that I will exist in for a slightly better one IMO I will do that. I hope I have now beat my record Dean!!! Bucket and spade at the ready.
  14. That is an perfect example of pie in the sky idealism. Rose tinted glasses, head in the sand, and all the other expressions along those lines. Such a simplistic point of view just isn't accurate. Costs will be much higher than you are expecting, revenue far lower. As I always ask fiercely pro Independence Scots - how exactly do you feel that the current arrangement is negatively affecting your life? Paying for the House of Lords Paying for the Tory Mp's in London Paying for HS2 Paying for Heathrow expansion Paying for Olympic Games Having the Westminster government dictate foreign policy therefore paying to step in whenever presidents and dictators step out of line. WILL be paying for Flooding ( sympathy with those affected) but Cameron said money no object, so will be paying for that. Paying for alllll the royal family. Paying for an MOD that likes to scrap aircraft carriers because they can't get their sums right. Paying for a nuclear "deterant" that if ever used will make us all glow in the dark. Just a few negative things. Independence is a bit of hope. Dare to dream. They put men on the moon with a bit of dreaming. It's a voyage of discovery. If we get independence let others worry about all the details. that's what their payed to do. Sometimes the K.I.S.S. method needs to be adopted.
  15. Super. Like the solid look of it.
  16. Wheelbarrow and pump up that tyre up. Set of timber tongs and remember and bend your back rather than your knees, short sharp lift aswell. Joking aside. I have moved some of the bigger bits with long bits of wood and shallow ramps to get them in the trailer. One of the main problems I have is getting the log standing upright. I have used stacks of pallets before to gradually manoeuvre the piece into place. As I add more I place timber down through them to hold them in place, either that or it's Jenga time then A&E. The magic blue rope gets an outing for this, very underrated IMO.
  17. PM sent Dan
  18. Perhaps Skyhuck is not a fan of the Tattie Scone which would be compulsory every morning if the border was moved that far south.
  19. Excellent.
  20. Hope you are working on that homework I gave you friend.
  21. You get alot of Granny services for that kind of money. Think of the kit that he could afford if he goes into the tree game once he retires from doing PE.
  22. You should dave !!! You know you need it !!!!
  23. OK chaps David has contacted me regarding getting a C.V. put together for potential employers. I will try my best to help him with this. Hope we can start afresh here and we can get him some employment prospects to get him out of the rut which many of us either have been in or know people who have. I know a C.V. is not every ones top priority when looking for staff. some just want someone who will turn up on time and not get dead. As it is a saturated market the C.V. might help get employment in other fields as well. That's all I can offer.
  24. Thanks for replying to my PM. Oh that's right you haven't. Tried to give you a bit of advice and thrown back in my face. Here's the PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK friend. I would like to offer some help in you getting employment. I am at the other end of the country so am not in a position to offer you work but I would like to pass on a few bits of advice which I have given apprentices I have taught to give them a good start in their chosen careers. As a regular to the forum I have been given good advice so i would like to pay some of that good will back. If I can. Persistence is a good quality to have but impatience is not. I have been reading through the posts and as someone who hires employees I would recommend giving the member on here who has offered you work a bit of time to reply. This should be done in PM rather than publicly. As has already been said by other posters, it is a good quality to be friendly with members, but if they are offering employment a bit of humility and reverence is in order. ( mate, bud, pal, mucker etc are not words which will endear you to many employers) Have you got a CV if you have I can check it and give recommendations, if any, on improvements as I have looked at hundreds, there could be a few things there which have stopped you getting to the interview stage. Questions which I always ask in interviews are what have you done recently to improve your chances of getting a job?. What are your interests? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? Think of answers to these questions. If you get the chance of an interview be prepared. If you are just looking to drag brash then at best that is all you will ever do. Aspire to do more. But be realistic. In the mean time learn. I have met many workers with difficulties but they are still able to pick stuff up. learn to identify trees for example. As you are going into that line of work. This will impress an employee. Learn knots and fungi, there are apps on here. your good lady seems happy to help so use this valuable resource to help you. learn to stay safe. Go to the websites on the right of the screen such as FR Jones and learn the names of all the equipment that we use in the industry. Understand the difference between type C chainsaw trousers and type A for example. learn the different chain types and what chains go on what bars. Name a few 50cc models?. Name the stihl and husky top handle models?. Name a few silky models?. Who makes the Protos helmet? These questions are not important but if you are going to be conversing with other tree workers it would be good to have some knowledge of them. It is a way of life for alot of tree surgeons so the more involved and enthusiastic you are the better. You don't need training for this you can train yourself. then when you go for your tickets you will have a good start. One thing I don't like in a candidate is cockiness and talking to other employers this has become more and more prevalent at interviews. and switch the phone off. I hope this is of use to you. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would class that as CONSTRUCTIVE advice. I hope other more grateful new members of the industry can benefit from this.
  25. Well that is the kind of piece I was wanting to do for my first go with the samurai bar!!!. Very nice. Are you using the bar with the MS150. I thought you were a Husky man?
