  1. Evening all. In the next few weeks I am going to be undertaking a domestic fencing job in South East London, well away from my usual stomping ground . Where-ever possible I prefer to use home grown and locally produced products. (as long as it is reasonably priced - 'you can take the Yorkshire man out of Yorkshire . . . ' ). I wondered if anybody could suggest a suitable manufacturer/supplier that might deliver to Sydenham. Thanks in advance.
  2. Me . I'll pm you my details.
  3. I know that in North Yorkshire cottage door posts were often made out of 'witch wood' as it was believed that witches could not pass it and enter the house. Plus I have a very old book which has 3 pages on the folklore of Rowan wood. It seems that its properties for banishing bad spirits have been revered from the Hebrides to eastern Europe for many centuries. The only reference that I can find to cutting a tree down is, "in the north of Scotland , it was held that herdsman should cut Rowan wood on Maunday Thursday, and fix the pieces of wood or leaves to a stave. The stave should be kept until next May Day, when, fixed over the doors of the sheep cots, they would preserve the sheep from disease until the following may." Hope this helps!

  9. I have been interested in getting to grip with the greys in a local woodland that I help out in for a while now - just really for the damage that they are doing to young trees . What are folk's opinions on the best traps? Thanks.
  10. Our population is probably past the point of no return already, and it will be the natural environment that pays the price.
  11. Does this apply to domestic housing? I installed a log burner 5 years ago that runs my heating and heats the water. - (love it) At the time I asked questions regarding possible subsidies but hit a brick wall. Was I asking in the wrong places?
  12. Thanks Matelot - Are steel toecaps specified do you know?
  13. Good morning chaps. I wonder if any of you good folks would be kind enough to share a bit of advice. I am very familiar with Arb risk-assessments, but I have been asked to do one for an up coming fencing and planting contract. What regulations (other than those that I am already familiar with might I need to consider? (PPE for planting, Tickets for post knocker etc.). - Or even better, does any body know where I might find a template. Any help will be greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance. Cheers.
