  1. Yes he does use the door catch for getting it going until blazing away. No problems then it's when the door get shut that he was having trouble. Will see how it goes now I have moved the fire brick back. The book mentions wood below 18% which is impossible through air drying in a Dartmoor winter with our logs going up to 20-22%. still it's not far off. Thanks chaps for the help.
  2. Just been round to have a good look at it when cold. Pulled the mesh cover off and looks like the top fire brick had slipped forward unless I accidentally moved it getting the mesh out. Lit it and all seems good but there is a breeze today so that might help. Fitting an external vent is not a simple matter as the stove is a nightmare to get into position due to position of the flue. Also not keen to get the fitter back as they ripped my dad off. £600 for a couple hours work and made a right botched job of fitting the register plate. When he muttered about the cost and quality of the work they just said "do you want me to take the stove away"
  3. This is interesting. When the installer did the draft test he suggested they needed a hole in wall to improve draught. This was surprising as they have had two stoves previously both larger and neither had any draw problems. Dad had a chat with Burley and they said due to the design it needed to be up to temperature before doing the test. Installer compromised and some holes were drilled to a vented air space under the floor and it was passed.
  4. The chimney should be OK. They had it swept and inspected before install and they said it was fine and good condition. It draws fine with the door open when lighting but it's after this that it's temperamental.
  5. My dad got a Burley Debdale 9104 and it's PITA. Thought he was just being fussy so went round to have a look. Had some lovely dry softwood on it and if the door was shut it just went to sleep. It's OK with an endless supply of kindling but chuck some logs on and sometimes it does not want to play. Any suggestions on how to get this stove working properly as it's going to have go if they cant get it working properly all the time. They had no problems before with a bigger Woodwarm but they needed a smaller stove due to improved insulation. Thanks
  6. The new steed. Won't be this shiny for long
  7. Great looking truck there
  8. Used to have a Big Douvre. You could use it with the doors open but it didn't chuck out much heat like that. Much better with the doors shut. Also remember changing lots of pieces of glasses and drilling out screws Got replaced with a 12 kWh Woodwarm and would never go back.
  9. Yep. Should have pushed for it sooner but just hoped there might some miracle cure down the line. Once the dealer knew I was not going to put up with it they were pretty good.
  10. I was going to ask if I could have a load but don't think our little outfit could handle 800 tonnes
  11. It's gone. After a bit of a scrap the dealer has bought it back for a fair price. Picking up an 2008 Hilux tomorrow Leaves me with a bit of contingency money for inevitable bills of an older high milage truck.
  12. And then you open the door to put a log on, empt ash or light a fire. All of these can chuck ash into the room. We work on the ignore it system until the spring and then might have a clean up
  13. I had a go on Matt Stores one. Not sure of the tonnage. Nicely made and plenty of push but what put me off is A the small blade and B the blade is very close to the main frame upright. If you have a log flare side down it was hard to get the blade onto the wood and was liable to push the log out instead of split it. Great if nice parallel logs but poor with misshapen lumps. This was a few years back so they might have altered the design since.
  14. Indeed My sister lives out there and is terrified of this loony but neither of us thought he would win. Lets hope the senate can keep him in check
  15. Only seen workshop ones like this Jet AFS-500 Air Filtration System - Air Filters - Dust Extractors - Machinery | Axminster Tools & Machinery. Might be OK if you could hide it away somewhere. Just looked at domestic ones and you pay a hefty premium for a bit of beautifying
  16. They move to country and want to buy into the small, local and green business. We appreciate this and try to deliver a product and service that will not make them look elsewhere.
  17. No most customers are city incomers with money not many locals on our rounds.
  18. Amazing the difference a few miles makes. Never been asked for kiln dried and never seen any around here. Not complaining mind
  19. Hope your wrong TCD. I would have thought the small sellers in sparsely populated areas should be fine. Presumably to go down the RHI kiln rout you need a fair sized set up so large turnover? If yes to sell enough logs would end up covering a large area to get the sales and I recon too many miles for delivery can be the killer with log sales. Fingers crossed as have no intention to get big and fit kilns to stay in the game.
  20. Which was your favoured brand Steve? I used Rustins Danish oil for many years but now prefer Liberon finishing oil. Less messy on the hands, drys a bit quicker and a higher level of protection. Be interested in which brand you recomend
  21. I can handle some arbwaste from time to time but that huge pile might do my head in Good on you, looks like you move one hellava lot of logs each season
  22. Riko do a couple of machines that might fit the bill. This is one of them https://www.riko-uk.com/product/72/435. Not seen one myself but Riko are not known for selling trash.
  23. Saw an impressive demo of the AMR trailer mounted, petrol driven spliter at the last APF. Way more than Oxdale money though
  24. Ah sorry. Get your batten spacing right and it falls into place. As just said presuming a level of competence with practical matters
  25. Yep very straight forward. As said get your tile spacing right and it all falls into place.
