  1. Jeez..... That's an upselling opportunity - they MUST need a 10 and all the trimmings!!
  2. (Spat coffee! Avoided nasal discharge though...!!)
  3. Alright Ed, in order to avoid conflating the 2 tracks - in this example, it seems the tree WAS protected and the appropriate protocols should be followed. I refer to my previous point, if a tree is subject to statutory protection, the appropriate protocols should be followed. However, it's necessary to unpack your assertion that the only way to ascertain that position is via the expensive and time consuming legal route. If a competent individual cannot ascertain the existence, or otherwise, of statutory protection - well that's a different topic.... I may be misreading / misinterpreting your suggestion that liaison with the entity that has the authority to implement statutory protection is the appropriate course of action? If I'm not, your suggestion is bullocks - especially in it's relation to professionalism. If you have a client that wants a tree removed and there is no statutory protection (having diligently checked), and the contractor is not morally opposed to undertaking the task, liaison with the entity that has the potential to block the client's aspiration would be a notably unprofessional betrayal of a client confidentiality AND a ridiculous business model. There's the ideal world, and then there's the real world.... What is this obsession you have with axe grinding....? I'm out.
  4. Yes Mick, I was being dim when I first got the flail and didn't activate hi-flow. It still ran, and did a fair job, but it would have been much better and cleaner cut on hi-flow. I've run the mower on high flow today and it worked a treat for muclhing. This is a 'wet' field and the grass grows late in the season. If it hadn't been for the past week of dry sunny weather I wouldn't have been able to get on it today. I've tried the tree shear and the riddling drum on hi-flow but the tree shear reacts too quickly and the riddling drums spins too fast creating centrifugal effect. I know it's not a "man thing" but I am forcing myself to have a periodic read of the user manual to remind and refresh on user possibilities - it's still a learning curve! PS I had a lovely compliment from the school cleaning lady today. She specifically sought me out when I was collecting the we'en to say how pleased she was with the finish compared to the previous contractor who simply cut and left the swarf to be walked into the school by the kids. It's the little things in life that make the most difference sometimes....
  5. That’s not quite what was suggested... Tree(s) either do or don’t have statutory protections applied to them. If they DO, you apply the mandated procedures. If they DON’t, you don’t. It’s pretty simple really....
  6. You’ve missed the point completely. To apply the position you seem to be advancing would be for every contractor to “inform” the TO before removing any tree.... Madness on so many levels that I can’t be bothered to list them
  7. That's possibly not the advice that would be in the best interest of the tree owner.... (i.e. in the delivery of a 'professional' service.) Albeit possibly overtaken by events, if one was confident that the order was invalid, informing the council of intentions could result in the issue of a new order.... Is that a moral or professional high ground you're aiming for there Ed?? (I don't mind which, but it can't be both.... )
  8. They pay for the advice..... The decisions are all theirs!
  9. Life is a series of compromises.... On a scale of 1-10 (1 being low etc), how likely would it be, based on professional experience, that a LA would seek to (a) prosecute (b) even notice? Unless it’s a high profile, national monument, tree of the year type candidate..... I’m going with a massively over cautious 2!
  10. With agriculture at the vanguard. "Custodians of the countryside" my arse. Unless it's Brexit?
  11. I don't have to worry about such frailty... There's a large percentage of friends & family (and an even greater number outside of that select few) that think I'm a heartless bar steward so it shouldn't affect me!!
  12. That's not a flawless equation K! New vehicles are TAX EFFICIENT!!!
  13. I've got 120 ton of granite chip to spread next week! Will post some pics!!
  14. It's a follow-up from a different question in a different thread (but I can't remember which one and since the MOers are mostly watching this thread now...) There was a question about guarding for the panels and I've found the youtube vid where I'd seen an example previously, might be useful:
  15. I'm lost for words fella! I hadn't seen the previous thread but was mesmerised and massively impressed to see what you had achieved. I had no idea the pictures were going to go down that path to the final one. Before seeing that final picture, I was going to ask about the awesome chimney... My heart sank when I saw the final pic and read to the end. I don't know what to say. That was a work of art - of passion - of commitment - of skill - of determination. Stay strong brother!
  16. I'm not climbing so much these days but went to help out a nearby crew last week on a tall Oak take down. That was enough to make me want to make the change to something less demanding than prussiking. Quite emotional, especially in the heat, T shirt was wringing by the time I'd got up the tree! Just not sure it's worth the course and the kit for the amount I might use it now....
  17. But.... What about the continuum of exploitation of members of the working class who work for the same wage or salary despite the fact that their tenured collective contributions in the business generate more than enough profit resulting in surplus value? The capitalist would not readily give an equal share of profits due to self-interest. Under capitalism, and specifically through property rights, the capitalist has the exclusive rights to the profit and surplus value generated by his or her labourers.... (tongue in cheek.....)
  18. Went to a fireworks display tonight. Seems ever more rare that these include a bonfire these days. This one did - pretty big site, more than enough room for the mandatory (perhaps over enthusiastically applied so called H&S requirements to separate people from the hazard of fire, Hell, they even had a no sparklers rule “for H&S reasons!”) To all intents and purposes, it “looked” like they had given some thought to safety (perhaps at the expense of personal responsibility and enjoyment) right up to the point where I noticed the position of the unlit bonfire. Right under a Beech tree! Retards!
  19. What's happened here then? I remember this thread from back in the Summer.... How did these "vote this answer" thingy appear?? Maybe not this thread, but I foresee some fun & games with that little teaser Still standing by your No. 3 Rob? Interesting times no doubt, more to play out yet...
