  1. Different features on different cameras. If hard wired you can have 24/7 recording - which can provide a portable addition to any building fixed CCTV at home, yard or street for example, or you can have bump/zone movement activated recording - which is less drain on the battery but only activates when there is a detected incident. If it's a 'plug-in' system to 12v, it generally switches on/off with vehicle ignition. There is some admin associated with CCTV as detailed at the ICO website: https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/cctv/ Worth a quick read to understand what is / isn't legal - even though there's precious little chance of ever getting pulled up for it.
  2. Sounds perfect! Apart from the recognition that you describe the beginning of the journey to a quilted cheque shirt, a beer belly hanging out the front and a builders crack at the back.... No, on balance, I think you're right Matthew! I'm off to M&M plant first thing Monday
  3. Does it come down to tracks v wheels? Tracks will get you in (and out) where wheels might not, but tracks are guaranteed to make more mess than wheels. Tough call....
  4. There’s a stretch of lane near us about a mile long where they cross-over. Empty return wagon waits for full wagon to pass then flies off down the lane. Only the wise see the empty and wait behind him, those that are innocently unfamiliar pass the waiting unit and you know there’s going to be a drama at the midway point. Same thing every year and it’s the main entrance to a holiday site....
  5. “....Madame, you have suffered an emotional shock. I shall notify a red crisis centre...”
  6. Re-write over itself in 3 minute sections on a decent one. A bump or severe breaking sends that file to the “protected” folder so it’s not overwritten. Or a simple push button sends that section to protected folder. I’ve got next base 512g - you can see it in action in the thread Stubby mentioned. I’ve had it ages, it’s just plug and go. I didn’t even know how to use it til the other day when I needed it. https://www.nextbase.co.uk/dash-cams/ Plugged it into the Mac and called the files up. Trimmed the bits I needed, uploaded to YouTube. Quite straight forward really. Worth every penny and ordering 2 more now - even thinking about doubling up with rear view cams as well! I spent ages scanning reviews and tech sites because the choice is bewildering. In the end, I looked at what was selling in volume and took a punt. Next base is well established in the sector.
  7. Easier said than done, forget it, move on. Choose your customer. You’d have bettered my quote by some considerable margin. I lost a decent local job recently, other party came in at 1/3 my price. I laughed everyday for a week watching them frag themselves as I dropped the nipper to school! Comedy! Funniest part was asking the customer if their ‘expert’ had considered hedgerow regs and felling licence. There was an unexpected 2 week delay from published start time....
  8. I was recounting my tale to a farming neighbour yesterday evening. Was very similar to your story but the trailer went on it’s side. She’d managed to back up in time to avoid contact which is what saved her life. The trailer went over exactly where she was before backing up! Silage contractors. You did well to hold your temper, if I’d had contact between the vehicles there’d be no holding back contact between the drivers!
  9. It’s not a silver bullet, it’s a tool in the box. The vid was parts of the first run out after I’d got it so there are elements of user deficiency / inexperience. For long, straight, high hedges or where the finer detail of a handheld can be sacrificed, it delivers output meters. It’s a lot tidier than a flail and a lot quicker than a handheld. Domestic / Mrs Miggins’ privet hedge, not worth the time & effort of loading / unloading etc but on a big, long, high hedge (Industrial estate or the like that needs cost effective ‘output’ over finer detail) well, it has its place....
  10. If the cars failed its MoT test and is due for the scrapper that might be a sound plan..... If not, there could be an issue?
  11. I hear you! That's why I was going so slow.... I'd just spilled hot coffee from the flask all ower my nads, whilst crooking the phone between ear and shoulder and popping some brufen to stave off the blinding hangover which I was hoping the fry up would take the edge off.... Bloody tractor drivers not paying attention.... They'll be the death of us!
  12. An eye for the detail as usual Gary! @ 0:33 I spotted the lap belt which was all that stopped a quick wrist tug to fetch him out for a more 'in depth' discussion....
  13. Glad I didn’t now it’s all passed off and calmed down Bob. Spoke to the boss again today, he said lad was horrified and terrified in equal measure! He wants me to send over the dash cam footage so he can show it to all the boys and use it as a learning opportunity. If it serves to calm them down a bit I’m happy with that. No room to get the nose round for a J turn, and it would have taken me the wrong direction for [emoji486]🥖[emoji505]🥓🥞[emoji477]️
  14. Man chokes on fish which jumped down his throat.... http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/man-almost-chokes-death-after-616903
  15. Spot on answer. I completely agree. For the right job, it’s an amazing tool - the secret will be deciding which job best suits handheld v machine carried.
  16. It’s this camera Shaun: https://www.nextbase.co.uk/dash-cams/in-car-cam-512g/ Not the cheapest available but money well spent in my book - it could easily save many times that in year on year insurance premium increases if it proves no fault in a collision. And, for a work vehicle it’s 100% deductible for Tax purposes as IT equipment.
  17. This is a decent page Richard: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/448037/road-fatalities-2013-data.pdf Look at the stats for rural roads!
  18. It’s not always (directly) the fault of the tractor / driver (or the lorry or the digger or the crane etc). I totally accept that and that’s what the company boss was alive to when I spoke to him today. But the bigger the vehicle the more should be the responsibility of the driver of it - it has the potential to do so much damage. I’m firmly of the mind that we should all drive on the assumption that there is a complete fwit around every corner because one day (today for me) you will meet one. My mate lives up that lane and drives it like a lunatic, if it had been him driving today we’d have both been toast! From 2000-2013 UK road deaths have fallen from an average around 3.5 to 1.7k / PA. That’s a lot of people not getting home from work. Ease off a touch and get home safe....
  19. Frightened I’d imagine. Big adrenaline hit followed by a good raging at, then a phone call from his Guv’nor who also had the right hump. I should imagine (hope) he pulled up round the corner and changed his gorillas. The boss was pretty savage, although he did say he gets numerous complaints and it’s not always the tractor drivers fault. I understand that, there are some career moaners out there. I’ll ask him how the driver relayed the incident to him, if he tried to blag it, I’ll show him the vid.
  20. That’s me SOL for a while now! All used up.
  21. Speed, downhill momentum, a slippery road surface and a blind bend.... It was bloody close! I’m seriously wondering if I should just send it to his boss or wether I should send it to HSE. If it had been a dotty old maid or a school-run-mum I think it could have been a fatal. What if the yoof doesn’t learn from a life experience and keeps going like a maniac? I’ll speak to the boss again tomorrow and show him the vid. What would the AT massive do? I’m struggling with this one.
  22. Very nearly lost it Mr E!
  23. I was on my way for a fry-up! Didn’t want to delay and was seriously in danger of losing my temper.
  24. The very few words he was able to get in were.... "it's the weight...." I think my reply was something like "no it *****ing isn't, its the speed you little ****!"
  25. For him, it was lucky it was just a boy, otherwise it'd have been farmer without a block!
