  2. The Gruffalos child is still growing! but watch this space........
  3. I Finally got this finished today. loved every second of the 3 days it took:biggrin:
  4. have been sawing on my own since i first stole my dads 08s when i was about 12. I got battered for it and my punishment was to cut up and split a huge pile of logs!!. now when im carving i dont like to be disturbed. some body else there is a distraction and accidents happen when people get distracted. my dad had a fight with a saw a few years ago he was brashing and the saw kicked up caught him across the face, cut down through the muscle onto his collar bone and then dropped to the floor behind him. he then fell back onto it and it dug into the back/ inside of his thigh. he had been there about 45min when we found him and it took about another 45 min for the ambulance crew to get to him. needless to say he was a bit gray by the time he left for hispital. so you cant rely on PPE. the silly bugger took 3 of his fingers off almost a year to the day after it whilst using a chop saw to cut up planks. some people are just not ment to touch sharp things.!!
  5. just found this on the net
  6. does any body know what the difference is between the two stihl battery powered saws. one is the MSA 160 C-BQ the other is MSA 160 C-BQ AP160&AL300. the latter is double the price.
  7. that is very very nice. my benches always end up wonky looking. have you thought about drilling two small holes to stop rain water collecting in the hollows under the owls. I made a bird bath once and even though i seaed the wood it rotted through in no time, and on a bench as nice as this that would be a real shame. well done
  8. the log is in devon if any ones interested
  9. I dont know if any one is interested but there is an add on the fire wood forum. theres a 10' long 4' diameter log up for grabbsthe center is hollow so could save somebody alot of work.
  10. its just along the road from where i do my carving and i have access to a tractor and trailer. he tryed to sell it to a saw mill and thet wernt interested. there is about 10 to 15 tons i can use to carve. if i cut and split the rest how much would it be worth as fire wood.
  11. i have the chance to buy about 80 ton of ash and beach. its already cut to about 6' lengths. i am more interested in the big trunks for carving but the farmer wants to sell me the whole lot. how much do you think i should offer him.
  12. post an add on the carving forum. if some body needs a hollowed out log it will save them alot of time and work. or get it carved for yourself. i did one a few years ago as a big celtic knot it was only about 2' diameter but it looked really good as you walked around it.
  13. should get 201 wed/thurs this week so will give you a call.
  14. dave go to sallys hair dressing supplys in dundee and get a big bottle of peroxide cream and just paint it on thinly then dab it off with a damp cloth. thats the way i do it.

  16. HELP I HAVE A STALKER:001_huh: I plan to have it finished on wednesday dave so will get it serviced and give you a shout.
  17. thank you very much. I think a bit of colour in the right place can transform a carving. i just use cheep wood stains but have found that i can achive almost anything i need to using just 5 colours harvest gold, brown, red, green and black.
  18. Dave ( dervishcarving) this is the phesant i was talking about today.
  19. cheers John
  20. have you used it yet just with the normal bar. im just wondering how much the front end lifts when you rev it. i think im gonna buy one.
  21. The 181 is a great saw for learning to carve with because they arnt too torquee and they work well if you want to fit a carving bar to them. i have one that i use for teaching. i think that now the Ms 192 is no longer available in the uk that the 181 is going to become a very popular carving saw. and as for the other saw i couldnt possibly commenton it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not because im a Stihl snob which i openly admit i am but i have never used one. But if it cuts use it.
  22. i was talking about the 201 back handle and not he 201 T
  23. you sir clearly do not know your poultry
  24. Has any body tried a 201 for carving. i know they are a bit pricey but im just wondering if it would be a good replacement for the much loved 192.
  25. i will not describe my carving as a chicken this time as my big one was pointed out to be a cockeral and not a chicken. you know who you are!!!!!!!
