  1. today's milling was undertaken by a good friend with a forestor mill as the yew log was just under 4ft across .I don't know who was more surprised Brian luxton the sawyer or the unhappy inhabitant of the log anyway it produced some excellent timber

  3. Yes some people can have a very adverse reaction to yew . Watch out for silica shake.
  4. I suppose kernow stu does deserve a tip- I neglected to mention his invaluable help in extracting this timber , with much sweat I don't think he'd worked so hard for years -as shown in the photo
  5. made a start on some yew butts today, hopefully attached are pictures of a few boards from the first 2 of twenty three English yews -all wind blow I hasten to add!

  11. Vintage kindling machine on eBay at the moment .I have one - it is excellent and a fraction of the cost of a modern one
  12. Hi there I my experience cracking like that occurs with poor soil conditions - totally useless for milling but ok for clefting
  13. Mill it and see - it has cracking markings especially burred or spalted .Dries quickly too

Evening all .thought I'd put a couple of pics of big stu's new lucas mill.He called round today for a trial run on some sweet chestnut for flooring .an excellent job even managed a draining board on his first attempt ! Last picture is a piece of olive ash cut with the chainsaw mill We reckoned about 10 tons of timber in 2 days
  18. I bought a multec hydraulic tractor driven from Ireland last year for around 800 quid lastyear and we have hammered it .no problems at all
  19. Is there an easy way to convert sq metre 1 inch boards to cubic ft?
