I have made a BOLA from the next size smaller links, but so far with unsatisfactory result.

The Lanyard adjuster (BOLA) does not grip on the reepschnur, however I have a prototype device that will on the 10mm line such as the reepschnur and beeline. which is pictured below on the left (Lynx)

an old bar does make a most excellent bull nosed scrape for wood turning on a lathe.

Here it is pictured in the Bulldog Bone thread. It has a fixed bollard that can be adjusted with a captive set screw, which is part of the one piece top arm of the Bone. A top teardrop on the Bulldog Bone does not work for DdRT, you have to terminate back to the bridge to make it work.

Thanks Old Mill. If you wear the BDB out you will have to try the adjustable version.

Here is a Bone style BOLA, notice the cantilever on the bottom arm like the Bulldog Bone. This makes it grip harder, plus with the top attachment you can self tend it much like a unicender. It will accept a RE Nano swivel in place of the teardrop. It grips strongly enough to bear my weight on a single line (pictured 7/16 KM III) and will release under load.

I am now making this adjustable top arm for the Bulldog Bone (pictured) The top arm is all one piece, with a captured 10-32 SS machine screw that threads into the bollard. This allows you to move the bollard within the top arm, narrowing the space between the bollard and the friction pin as you turn the captured screw "out". The top pivot makes a good attach point for a tending loop of throw line girthed there.

This BOLA is wider and will accept most if not all of the ropes that the Bone likes. The friction links are nickel plated steel and both outer friction pins have bollards, while the inner friction points are the pins. When heavily weighted it will release by pulling down on the bottom arm, with the top arm engaged and providing friction. Otherwise it can be released by manipulating the top arm. Slack tending is smooth and consistant.

Just for fun, you should show up next time with a punt gun and an APTA. First aim the punt, then say something like "no this is overkill", then pull out the APTA and pour in a healthy dose of "gunpowder" before tamping in the throwbag.

It is nice to keep it sharp, if only to cut the fibers that do not split clean apart.

Been using mine for a year now and enjoy it very much. The long handle is nice but takes some getting used to. The composite handle is holding up very well, and if it should break, there is a lifetime guarantee on the handle with normal use. I would use gloves with it to protect the pinkie finger at full reach, as the end of the handle is flared. the head is weighed very nicely.

That sphere must have been a challenge. My fathers land is thick with holly, moreso than any other tract of land I have encountered in this county. I turned a small size ball bat, about two feet long, with a piece of trunk, and burnished it with flame. Also carved a new shifter knob handle for my old Datsun 510. It sounds right that is should be used as an inlay wood.

Mom has a terrier and he is a terror for squirrels but can't be bothered with mice in the coop, I think because mom has him trained not to mess with the chickens at all!

Once got my 16' dump bed truck (filled with wood) stuck in the lowland, right down to the axles. Dad had an army surplus 20 ton, two speed, hand crank, winch mounted on frame extensions on the front of our tractor. We chained the drawbar of the tractor to a handy stump and cranked it out using the low speed. It took awhile but eventually we got it back on solid ground
