  1. That's a heck of a revenue ontop of your tree bookings. Good for you buddy.
  2. yeah gotta have been. I guess my point is watch cutting other peoples log heap, you don't know what your gonna get!!
  3. Got a call today from a guy wanting his elm 24" diameter timber cutting up that had been felled a couple of years back. No problem I said as i had a free afternoon for the work and my saw was very sharp ready to go. To my embarasment 5 mins in I had a blunt saw (timber was clean). It was rock solid and literally had my bar smoking. I said im ever so sorry but im going have to leave it as Id have go sharpen my saw a dozen times over to get job done. Just thought id share the info just in case any of you guys come across the same sort of scenario. ive always known that dead wood lacks the moisture so therefore has the ability to blunt the chain quicker but this one was such a shock and had my cheeks glowing!
  4. Hey guys im looking for a transit flatbed tipper. Was anyone thinking of flogging theirs? My friend and I are doing (proffesional!) weekend work outside our full time jobs and we need an arb truck so we can get in and out of jobs quicker. We want the older 1990-1999 model as my friend is really handy with them if and when they go wrong. Cheers in advance
  5. Any of you fellow arbtalkers want a free garage? ideal for keeping your valuables locked up! Its prefab construction, pebble dash in appearance, up and over garage doors, one side window. Steel roof strutts to hold roof. Email me for pics, ideal for you boys with a flatbed truck for transportation. wanting to get it shifted this weekend. I will be present to assist with dismantle.
  6. Broke my hand in three places in my teens whilst pratting around on a motorcycle. Also broke my fingers plenty of times when coming off my downhill rig! Plenty of surfing accidents too
  7. The missus and I watched 'Flight' the other night, I wad hooked from start to finish- fantastic film
  8. The long reach stihl are quite bad to use in my opinion, they are noisy, vibrate alot and twist when you pull the trigger, it seems they have too much power for the job in hand. that's the km130r's though, so im sure there would be a better stihl long reach to use somewhere along the range.
  9. Hi Adam, whats your day rate please? I need a good climber for regular work local to boston. cheers p.s PM me if you like.
  10. Camp my ride! Love it.

  12. If anyone wants the old truck its listed on gumtree as 'nissan navara bargain'. decided to sell finally as I really need to get back on the road, I've got a list of jobs that customers have now jumped up to get the work done with the break in the weather. Or a swap for a defender please
  13. .......
  14. Cheers Worcswuss for in depth and informative advice. My mind is made up, im going to save up for one properly, I will start looking in a few months when I have saved up a few grand. Cheers fellow arbtalkers I think you may very well have saved my bacon. Cheers
  15. yeah cheers, I guess it would be instant currency to some. I have the advantage of having a 100m2 lock up that I would keep it in.
  16. yup true. Just want to get moved on from navara as they are expensive to fix. I have a mate who know defenders well, so if I get any problems we would work on it together with his know how. I simply asked on here because I wanted to hear of common problems that others have come across.
  17. Its a defender 90 im after. Ok ok, looks like I'll be pushing the budjet up a bit then!! Question still stands at the common problems please? Also id be interested to hear from people interested in selling. Thanks
  18. hey dudes and dudettes. Things are looking up, I'm starting my new post working for a local estate at the beginning of march and I have decided to go for a landy defender to look tge part plus I feel it would be practical for most estate management work. They will probably provide me with a truck but i would rather be prepared plus it will be very handy for a few private jobs on the side- sling my ms361 and hs81r's, bit of fuel, my ppe etc in the back of the truck and away I go! Has anyone got one they would like to sell me? I'm looking around a grand. I know that's cheap in defender terms but im upon a real tight budget for a few months. I expect it will be a bit beaten up around that price lol. What are the common problems of defenders, are they pretty cheap to run etc? All info is much appreciated.
  19. honestly yes. The arbtalk magic knows no bounds Thanks for all the advice guys, you made me take a step back and think of a more rational route to take.
  20. cheers for the positive input Al. Pleased you like some of my posts, that's Brill.
  21. Cheers Rob, much appreciated mate. Well I held onto my truck by getting the people who owe me money to cough up. I hate it when people say 'thanks for your work, looks great, your cheque's in the post', im then waiting for weeks afterwards to get payment. I had to get tough with them and got results, Enough to save my truck so im happy now. Hence truck not so gone! Not so gutted!
  22. Climbing a hill as soon as you start if you borrow money. Just buy kit for jobs when you need it.
  23. Yes I guess it would. Thanks anyhow.

  25. Thank you Stephen. That's great advice.
