  1. That's true of most OEM parts fitted by a manufacturer, the trick is to identify the original manufacturer and model. Sometimes a manufacturer will have a slightly non standard part modified for their use and the OEM part is only supplied through the manufacturer, like the brevini feed motors on a greemech, but other OEM parts do fit. The original Doskos which where copied had no clutch and the wheel ran continuously, the electro magnetic clutch was a a retrofit for the Kohler engine, similar clutches are used on the vermeer stump grinders and Toro mowers but they all seem to cost about 300 quid.
  2. It's unladen weight and that is https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-weights-explained So run the fuel low, remove the ancillaries, put it on the weighbridge and get out before the weight is recorded.

  4. That I don't believe Did you do the flowchart? If they accept it may not be a DPV then they have to accept it will need a class 7 test. At the beginning I felt sure the later Land Rover products would not be under 2040kg and that neither would the hilux but those two brochures, whilst showing the kerb weight increasing over time do not actually mention unladen weight. I have tried to check the difference but unladen weight is without fuel , jack,spanner or a spare wheel. I thought kerb weight included a full tank of fuel, driver and ready to roll. So there may well be 150kg difference. The cheapest way to find out is to bung it over a public weighbridge.

  6. Yes you are okay to take tools and materials for your own use within a 100km radius without a tacho even if your gross train weight exceeds 3500kg ( but less than 7500kg). My interpretation would be this includes removing arisings from site but I'm not sure if it came to court. Technically you should still manually record your driving hours and a tacho is necessary if weight exceeds 3500kg and you are delivering goods, in which case you should have a driver cpc.

As far as I can see you are correct on all counts but I had good reason for not arguing with my MOT tester as I take over 30 vehicles there each year, I doubt having a class 7 mot would have preventing it being a DPV if I got stopped for speeding. Also as you may see from my other posts I doubt that a hilux crewcab with hard top will come in under 2040kg unladen. I remember in the old days drastically lightening a bedford CF 350 to get it under the limit and only squeezed by because it had a petrol engine and a mild bit of cheating. the limit was 15cwt in those days.
  8. so much for red herrings It doesn’t so the hilux would be class 7 were it not for the fact it would qualify as a DPV if under 2040kg unladen (remove hard top and spare wheel nearly empty fuel tank and take it to a public weighbridge) I haven't weighed our 14 plate hilux crewcab but Ignorantia juris non excusat and I doubt it qualifies as DPV on unladen weight grounds. It mostly tows a chipper so is subject to lower speed limits anyway. Let me know when you get your dealer to weigh it and I will warn my boss I actually pay £35 for a class 4 test and £40 for class 7 and it should not pass a class 4 and fail a class7 so the only drawback is the 10mph slower limit on dual carriageways and ordinary roads.

  10. I needed to get a weight ticket to prove my 110 was under 2040 kg and it was but only just. It was to prove it was subject to a class 4 MOT rather than class 7 as IIRC the gross was 3050kg. MOT tester wouldn't accept it so rather than take it elsewhere therafter I had to pay for the class 7. I think you nailed it for the speed limits but since last year they went up from 40 to 50 for commercials on single carriageways so it only affects you by 10mph on these and dual carriageways.
  11. Are these M16 x 50mm 12.9 socket countersunk screws like on the Greenmechs?
  12. Kit arrived promptly but it took a while to issue to a sensible and experienced guy. He fitted it to his old 026 and was impressed with the speed but noticed the clutch cover warming up after heavy work so swapped back to .063 chain. My guess is his sprocket was worn and with the slightly thinner bar the drive links were riding up one side of the worn sprocket. I have ordered a new clutch and .325 rim for further evaluation.

  14. Seems interesting that RobD announces a narrow kerf .325 semi chisel a week before this! Is the 10% claimed gain in speed because the kerf is 10% narrower? I have the chisel low profile 3/8 on a little einhell and it seems fine , if a little harsh. I have yet to have feedback from the guy who put one on his MS261 at work. H

  18. For slumber read smoulder. Wood decomposes in stages as it burns, the heat for this comes from the dissociation of oxygen molecules on freshly made char. This gives off heat which pyrolyses and gasifies neighbouring masses of wood. If the gases given off are above their autoignition temperature or there is a flame present with sufficient secondary air these gases will ignite . If not, because the fire is shut down then the gases will not burn out and will be vented as smoke. This smoke can contain up to 70% of the chemical energy in the wood but also Products of Incomplete Combustion: tars, CO Methane, aldehydes, ketones and other things which aren't good for the atmosphere. So shutting a fire down to smoulder overnight isn't a good thing. Damping down a bed of hot coals is a lesser evil as it only emits CO which is only a problem if you breathe it in at over 30 parts per million.
  19. My concern would be the possibility of a poor seal allowing CO into the room before the chimney got warm, way round would be to duct the air from the intake to the draught regulator. A draft is a rough sketch or outline unless you speak american, draught is a breeze or a pint. In my terminology the flue outlet is where the flue gases leave the stove and enter the chimney, I may be wrong It's burning hot because too much oxygen is getting to the fuel. Oxygen in air is sucked in to the primary and secondary air inlets because there is a depression (small vacuum not a hoover) in the stove, this depression ensures no combustion products get into the room from poorly sealed doors or hot plates. The depression is formed because the column of hot flue gas in the chimney is lighter than the colder air in the room. The taller and hotter the chimney is the larger the difference in buoyancy of the gases.

When we fitted pellet stoves to a block of flats and the chimney was 5 storeys high it was necessary to fit a draught regulator at the flue outlet, this was a weighted flat that opened slightly when the buoyancy of the hot flue gases was such that a depression formed at the stove outlet. The rest of the time the weight kept it shut. I would be concerned about using one in a room sealed system unless it drew air from outside.
  22. I accept Barrie's point but as I will end up with a spare worn carb I can at least try blocking it, thanks for the tip Graham. The guys are determines to keep the ms200s going rather than have newer saws.

  24. It's a cracking little saw and I don't know why it got taken to a dealer for repair. If it comes back in pieces I'll clean it but the dealer is adamant the carb is "all over the place" .
  25. What options do I have for replacing the carburettor on a MS200, I take it this will be them same as the ms200t? The Stihl part appears to be 85 quid plus VAT
