  1. Ah, a prusik loop, not an eye to eye. Is it sewn or tied? If it's tied you could undo it and tie a fisherman's each end and make your own eye to eye... Fishermans single - Knots Guide | Arbtalk.co.uk You can hen have a play with some other hitches....Photo Knots Guide - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists Knots Guide
  2. If you have that cord try it in a vt...
  3. Exactly right. Common sense filed in triplicate is not common sense at all. As you say, you either got it or you ain't, and no crappy little plastic sign in reception can change that! IIP was seized in my LA's, quangos and other top heavy organisations, but I have yet to see an example of IIP status causing growth. I'm (against my will and better judgement) doing our constructionline application at the moment, what a load of balls....
  4. If you're spending 25 quid on a pulley, I'd blow another fiver on a bit of friction cord and try some directional hitches. It makes a huge difference.
  5. 460 is still standard mount isn't it? So I think yes... But I'm sure someone can confirm... I've not tried a bar off my 260 on my 460....
  6. Another massive load of tosh, along with CHAS, SAFEcontractor, constructionline, ISO9001 etc etc etc. I could go on but I'd get cross. What we all need to do is collectively stand against job creation administration schemes like these....
  7. Funny how you can find photos of girls out in the wide world web old mill.... But not photos on your own camera....
  8. If you're still in west London then you're within striking distance of Honey's or Joneses. There you can look at the gear available and they will give you fair advice on what you do and don't need. Stihl and Husky are both good saws, as a new user with no preference just go pick a few up and choose the one you like. There are of course other brands as well but you can't go far wrong with the top 2. For years all I had was an ms260, I climbed with it, felled and did all my logs. In reality it's plenty of saw for most jobs. Everyone raves about a bigger saw with a little bar but actually a SHARP 15 or 16 inch chain on a 50cc saw is enough for most general farm forestry.
  9. I reckon £120 is about on he money, that's also a reasonable day rate in construction, and up to £150, for a similarly skilled, although less highly invested, trade. If I were to employ a team of 2 to come for a day on a building site for me, just to cut and leave it where it lands, I'd expect to pay £150 per man.
  10. Between my old man and I we've had 7 or 8 Disco 1 & 2's since 1994, new and second hand, 200 & 300 tdi, v8, original and face lifted td5, manual and auto. They've toured Europe, towed heavy trailers, been driven hard off road, problems we've had with the can be counted on the fingers I have.... 200 tdi - gear selector, common fault, once, under warranty 300 tdi - clutch release arm snapped, 190k miles Td5 auto - coolant leak from back of header tank Td5 auto - gear position switch 3.9 v8 - leaky oil pressure switch 3.9 v8 - got submerged in floods, needed new starter motor and clutch after bearings disintegrated.... She's awaiting a new clutch but she's still going! I love 'em, wouldn't stake my life on anything else...
  11. What Rupe says, and Burrell. Strictly speaking working for him full time self employed makes him liable for paying your ni and tax. If this is an arrangement he's had for a while then it's a wonder the revenue haven't looked into his firm already....
  12. It always amazes me how little some people charge.... Do you know what your baseline living costs are....? Rent / mortgage, income tax, ni, council tax, food, transport, phone, insurance, presents, holidays, clothes, takeaways, pub.... There's a grand a month easy in this day and age. Then all your work costs on top of that. So you may well be scraping by at the moment, but what about when you're off sick, or work dries up....?
  13. Amazing film, great soundtrack, specially as he gets out....
  14. We were soldiers. Taken Hurt locker Franklin To name but a few!
  15. Think that one was definitely bent.... A clone of this one.... GoPro HD HERO2: Outdoor Edition Camcorder - Silver | eBay Tiny bit of feedback! In a for a penny, in for £25....
  16. Looking on eBay this is rife.... But, think of this..... Almost all of the shiny electronic tat we pay a fortune to these American and Japanese companies for is made in china and actually costs only pennies. Chances are this stuff could well just be lifted straight off the line and may indeed be genuine.... I remember reading several years ago about examples of a much anticipated toy tractor turning up on eBay, coming from china, for a couple of quid, before they had been released, the first container load hadn't even got to Europe! The French company who commissioned them went batsh**.... Incidentally, that seller may have gone, but the listing remains.... Cheaper though! I might have a punt!
  17. Following the apocalypse, all that will be left are cockroaches and Russian truckers in their kamaz and ural trucks!
  18. Very interesting, thanks Having been thinking about how I'm gong to get around a tree, I've decided that for now I'm going to reserve SRT principally for access on a base anchored line thrown any old how into the tree. I can then go and set my pulley saver wherever I want it and work ddrt from there. That means I'll keep my hc pulley and beeline eye to eye for ddrt and I'm going to then have a pinto and OP eye to eye on the rope wrench. The sling I'm basing my mark 2 tether on is a 31cm one of these.... Rock Empire 13mm Dyneema Open Sling climbing | eBay I'm hoping the nice smooth profile of the pinto will remove the issue old mill raised of the side plates of my old isc fixed pulley chafing the cord.
  19. That's a bit tasty tommy! What and how... Full details. Does how does it sit with the hitch cord...?
  20. I think we've got them down to around 30 quid.... I'm due a new one as 5 years of living outside, 3 months being used by the (rough arsed) builders on my extension and all that entails, endless weeks, seasons even, being sat in the rain full of rotting garden cuttings and water, numerous trips back and forth having brick ends thrown in to / at it, not to mention being dropped loaded off planks up skips, have taken something of a toll on my poor old barrow. The 2 fixings at the back of the pan have rotted out. I shall definitely be getting another!
  21. Paid business snowed under. Unpaid developing business snowed in! Yours? Must have really hit paydirt now jonesie's stocking it!
  22. Sure I can't tempt you with one for your next trip Ted? You could come incognito....
  23. I ordered a suitcase full.... Awesome...
  24. Did I win that one.....?
