  1. Might have to pay them a visit..... Do fancy a 150t!
  2. I know even less about sport harnesses than I do work positioning ones so I can't really help you on that I'm afraid Jack In terms of tree climbing, you're hanging in it to climb ddrt so you want something fairly comfy, which sport harnesses aren't really, but to stop you hitting the deck it will be just fine. In terms of sizes, my son has a size zero Petzl Aspir which has loads of adjustment in it. Can you get across to go outdoors to try some on?
  3. We have quite a few novices without any gear coming along for the day which is absolutely fine, but collectively we're struggling to muster up some spare harnesses to borrow for the day. Ropes etc no problem. With that in mind, if anyone who does not yet have a harness has the funds to get one in the meantime it would be worth doing, just means everyone will get more climbing time. I noticed that honey's are selling off the Petzl aveo for just over 80 quid plus vat, it having been recently replaced. A friend has one and they're a nice straightforward lightweight sit harness. Alternatively a cheap and cheerful rock climbing harness will do. If you can't get hold of anything please don't worry, we'll make it work whatever happens
  4. Presumably no one is afraid of dogs....? Speak up now! I'm going to say no more now though just to be on the safe side You might still be on your own there! What are the long distance travellers intending to do? Anyone want to camp with Roy...?
  5. Good point Jamie, let's all play nice....! I often find that the moral high ground is rarely founded on a full understanding of all the facts. Conflict is always started by those who claim to be acting in the interests of moral rectitude.... It's easy to pick apart people's posts and shoot them down if you're utterly convinced that your opinion is more valid than anyone else's. In my experience this is a stance of the pious, self righteous and, perversely, the liberal. A little respect for the views of others, and time to reflect on various interpretations of what may have been said costs nothing and can avoid so much conflict. Anyone who has had a few children spread over a few years will know full well that 'the right way' of doing things changes with alarming frequency. It's very dangerous to be convinced you're right and shoot down the knowledge and values of others, after all, no one knows everything.....
  6. Sorry, I forgot that I'd stated I don't go into schools as an industry liaiso with teenagers, or support various small direct charities, nor are we saving up so our daughter can go to Africa next year to do community work..... What a bizarre conclusion to arrive at based on my opinion of a tv variety show....
  7. That's a grossly unreasonable assumption you make, knowing nothing of what I may do, what with me not being in the media don't you think...? I always find the righteous to be the most unable to consider the thoughts of others.....
  8. not heard that one before And nice measured response, I appreciate that after some of the drivel I've seen on here up till now.... Fair play, have to respect your position. And your balls to post it in light if the hammering you'll no doubt get for it...
  9. Important statement. That's the problem I have with the tv extravaganza which is comic relief. In my view it's become less about the charity work and more 'look at me, I'm giving up one evening of my charmed celebrity life to surround myself with like minded people to encourage those who can't really afford it right now to selflessly give over their hard earned to the less fortunate'. I don't boycott cr, my little boy was dancing in town in his jammies last week, I chucked a few quid in the bucket. I do boycott the tv show though.... If that makes me a bad person, well, whatever... I feel no need to defend myself
  10. Done properly an apprenticeship is excellent for all parties. Lots of people bemoaned the 80's scheme after the young lads who came on cheap and were put through college soon buggered off afterwards. But it's a 2 way street, employers need to offer opportunities after the apprenticeship as well. It's no wonder young lads moved on when they were treated as the apprentice forever. If you're a small company with no plans or infrastructure to grow, perhaps an apprentice isn't right for you. But if it forms part of a long term plan for growth, where the apprentice can enjoy career progression into the future then I believe apprenticeships are a great idea. I would like to take one on myself when our company is ready....
  11. Obviously I would not know that....
  12. New list Arran Joe, Allister, Roy, Jack M Jake Barry Chris Jack E Wayne Ed Brian Paul Max Me Possibles.... Paul B Tommy ?
  13. I had to wonder, I searched it and all i found was Thomas's throw weight!
  14. Not a long term relationship then......?
  15. Nope, but I did make my little boy a spoon costume for school.... He won the prize, lord knows how!
  16. It's not a criticism, it's simply a question.... Maybe an assumption or observation, but not a criticism.....
  17. Yes but us knowing what happens to sick children in Africa hasn't stopped there being sick children in Africa. That can only be achieved by domestic political will, and so long as ineffective regimes take foreign money to feather their nests whilst letting their populations be supported by the pittance we raise at events like rnd, that political will won't come. We can only scratch the surface, we're not addressing the problems with things like this....
  18. At no point have I criticised anyone. Check back.... I'm shocked at you Dave, you don't normally misinterpret black and white
  19. How much difference did bob actually make to Africa long term? Not as much difference as he did for himself for sure.... That's not a dig against bob, I think he's a shining example of human strength and decency, not so much for live aid, more for how he has taken on and brought up another's child as his own. Top bloke. I just believe there are more effective and less narcissistic ways of 'doing charity' that mass televised back slapping....
  20. If celebrity is power and these people are indeed doing things 'out of hours' shouldn't we hear about these things locally....? I can't recall ever having a celebrity join in with a local charity project and widen it's publicity and make it more successful. I've only seen them involved in things which increase their exposure while the general public throw money at their feet.....
  21. I've always been uncomfortable with the rather arrogant western opinion that we can fix third world problems by parading some parochial personalities on our national tv stations and raising small amounts of money.... All we do is move the problem, we never solve it. I also feel that in moving the problems Africa will never be able to really get stuck into solving them, so in insisting on keeping Africa as a charity case, we keep it stuck in poverty.... Just my view though
  22. Sorry chaps, on this occasion I'm with the objectionable ex-pat. If these 'celebrities' really cared about helping others they'd pitch in with voluntary projects regularly, not just when it gets them on telly. I'd be very interested to see the real figures behind comic relief. I don't believe tv companies etc do things for nothing these days, certainly not things as expensive as comic relief....
  23. Nope. All though it was obvious to me why he changed the name from 'treepeedo', which conjured up all sorts of unwelcome images!
