  1. Had to laugh at the cbc canada news coverage of Wills and Kates oops sorry Katherine's wedding , they said it was unusual for a monarch to marry a ' commoner ' !! Doesnt say much for the rest of us serfs :laugh1::thumbup1:

  2. I am really sorry that you thought that my tone suggested muppets.

I did try to be respectful of those who choose to use them.

I am very sorry that this has not come across and will try harder in future.

No sarcasm here. I mean it. Sorry your'e offended.:blushing:

Crikey.. we could have spun this out much further :laugh1:

  3. Although false security has been mentioned by a previous poster. Said poster claimed that these things could be cut through with a saw.

Therefore you should be 'enlightened' as to his argument already.

Has this statement has annoyed you in some way?. Perhaps you like this Piece of equipment. This is your right.... please enlighten us.:001_smile:

I'm not annoyed in the slightest . Yes i do use one and havent found it to twist at all , gate snap at the end very quick and easy to secure one handed . You are trying to make out its only muppets that use them by your tone ? and i dont believe for one thousand of a second i'm the only person in Britain that uses one but hey i'm no expert climber .

  4. He's one of my heroes for at least putting the record straight about Captain Scott although i admit he has got a touch of arrogance about him . Doesnt detract from the fact he is a British icon and should be a great night :001_smile:

  5. Feel your pain mate been there and got the hobble aswell. Just take your time and don't try and do to much to soon. How did you manage to do it?

You must be a nightmare going through airports !! :laugh1:

    Nice saw btw :001_smile:

  6. No worries mate.

I think the sun has gone to people heads;). Just seems in times of quietness everyone starts moaning about people under cutting them, lack of work etc. As soon as the sun comes out a bit. Yeah I agree it's hot compared with what we have been used to... Along come the thread about heatstroke etc. I could understand it more if it was actually hot. What we have experienced I. The last week or so is nothing compared to what tree workers could experience in other part with hotter climes.

Dudes in Oz and the US seem to manage so howcome we can't after 25 degree heat?

Agreed.. I'm not letting you off with the inferiority complex though, from one of the best climbers on arbtalk !! :laugh1:

  7. Berks? Oh, cheers!

Yeah, use your common sense, drink plenty and do what you need to.

It isnt even that hot yet? What are you actually gonna do if it actually get very hotter?

The answer is easy, drink more water, take more rests. Not difficult to fathom out. Maybe if people can't work that out for themselves then i would suggest you should start a thread on how to keep cool.

Thanks for the 'berk' comments. They are really helping my inferiority complex.

Apologies Rich , shouldnt have said that ...

  8. Why do certain individuals always poo poo advise...

The point of sharing experiences and learning from our fellow arborists is what this forum is all about... 'man up' is not really very constructive in terms of advise or support.

The aim of the game is to stay strong, effective and therefore safe during your working life, so thanks to all you who have had some really sound input to this discussion.. to all the others I'd like to say 'man up' don't be scared to use your brain its not that difficult.... and it does't make you a lesser man to take advise and guidance from your fellow man/woman....

Well said Mark , this is an important thread with some good constructive advice . I wouldnt worry about the ' man up ' comments its from the usual berks .

  9. Pee on your workmate's T-shirt and wrap it round yer head.

Old bedouin trick that , cools the head by convection . ( I've possibly just made that up though )

Some important advice in this thread though ... i was quite distressed one hard day years ago on a sweltering day which took me by surprise because i was mega fit . Had to go to the freezer section of a supermarket to cool myself down quickly which i'm sure was a timely act . Good to get the keks off aswell at breaktimes . :001_smile:

  10. It may be something that fits around a mast. It doesn't look either man enough or practical enough to join vessels together. You'd use steel shackles and chain, wire or rope, not alloy.

The alloy looks like it seperates and fits around a specific profile when closed. Could be an emergency kicking strap fitting. Or something to do with a jury rig. That's assuming it is actually a piece of boating paraphernalia.

Would like to add that it wasnt the said implement here that they were using to hook on to the ship , the photo was just an example of its theoretical functionality . :001_smile:
