Thats the only episode i've watched Martyn , i tried to watch one a week or two before that but found it boring really . It was the fact they were using mules that whetted my interest . Dont know is the answer :001_smile:

  2. extreme loggers! just caught the end of this on quest+1

axemen just started on history+1 11pm,looks like theres a new team-horse loggers

I watched an episode a few weeks back with the mule loggers . I've never seen anything so dangerous in all my life . Was unbelievable the risks they took . Had to laugh at the end when the guy said they were the last ones doing it !! :laugh1: i wonder why ??

  3. Sure I'm going to get shot down here, but I find the Brits a little bit too arrogant nowadays.

Did you hear Wiggins swearing in the press conference the other day when asked about doping? Not for the first time either and as for Cavendish.... well some of his outbursts have been worse. Now I'm sure people will say that this shoot-from-the-hip style is part of his appeal, but this isn't boxing. Cycling's promoted as a family sport, so I beleive the role models should be better ambassadors.

Did anybody see Lance Armstrong an a press conference a few years ago when he was attacked over doping by Paul Kimmage (anybody remember him)?

Fair points Ironbark .. but may i give my perspective on it .

I'll start with Brad Wiggins outburst . For someone to try and humiliate him and his team in front of the worlds eyes in what is the biggest and most important point in his cycling career was simply unacceptable and the reporter has simply no morality imo . Wiggins probably shouldn't have swore but he was quite rightly incensed and i thought retorted with a good answer .

I've been following Cav's career for a few years now and don't know what you mean by his outbursts being worse ?? He had a reputation for being awkward at interviews and a bit monosyllabic , flinging his hat out the team bus etc but if you read his book and try to understand Cavendish the person he really is a decent and VERY humble bloke . He takes defeat VERY badly , so badly he cannot talk to team mates ( who feels he has let down terribly ) and is just a nightmare to be around . So when some reporter starts asking maybe some irrelevant questions he has sometimes not been the most co-operative but certainly not rude , but has not been as bad lately i feel . What Cav has above everyone else is a burning passion and this is sometimes misconstrued as arrogance . Read his bio , you'll love it honestly .

I've seen the Kimmage interview and really it doesnt change my opinion of Lance Armstrong . He is simply for me the greatest athlete that has ever lived . Would i like to go for a beer with him ?? probably not . Inspirational ? well he certainly was and is for me . :001_smile:

  4. Never been to Benidorm mate. I have spent quite a lot of time in the alps though and the winters usually entertain the 6 nations. The anti English stance is quite apparent.

When I questioned a few of my Scottish mates about this they said they hated the English...! So I asked other hated me and the others who hailed from south of the border? Answer was no to the individuals but they still stated thy hated the English nation.

I found this answer to be pretty narrow minded TBH. Hate is a very strong word.

I could say I had similar experiences in the states and Asia.

If there your mates i wouldnt like to meet your enemies

Crikey , maybe you'd be better off in Benidorm !! :001_smile:

  5. To use a tennis metaphor, the ball is very much in your court.

The people i hang about with are decent folk with no axes to grind and simply would not entertain any ' trash talk ' as regards this type of b.s

There are always exeptions to this of course but then again i wouldnt really want anything to do with them so i couldn't give a rats arse what they think .

If you take a second to look at another thread on here to do with the Tour de France you will see i'm fully behind an English cyclist winning one of the biggest prizes in sport and i'm sure many other Scots , Welsh , Irish watching are roaring him on aswell. Hardly a peep from anyone else

I can only speak from a Scottish perspective and we are a courteous , proud and polite nation ..
