  7. try partially freezing the water before going to work, then its nice cold through out the day. Also, store your tube in the fridge/freezer to stop mildew build-up
  8. 1.5hr road bike last night, nothing too hard just a mid week top up. Probably do a trail run tonight. Should be open water swimming by now but water temps still too cold round here in the sunny NW
  9. Hi Graham, sorry to hear of your loss, its the worst thing for any parent to lose a little one. How did u get on doin IM in 08 & 09? Did u acheive your goals? Lanzarote will be nice, dont think the missus would let me go though, nearly ended up divorced in 2010 due to the training loads. Last year was okay as with only 20 days notice I only had 3 weeks to upset her. Probably do IM next year as a mate will be doing his first and Ill end up doin all the training so may as well race. You will have to drop me a PM if doin IMUK next year as I acn take you round the bike course, its only bout 10m from my house Video My moment of fame, coming in last year at 11:59:59
  10. 3 hr road ride yesterday Hi Graham I did IM UK in 2010 & 2011, wasnt planning on doing 2011 but was gifted a ticket by a training pal 20 days before the race as he didnt want to do it. Good luck with your training and keep the posts coming, sounds like an interesting mix of sporting endeavours.
  11. 2 hr ride last night, hill loops and sprints on the flats, nearly 30m
  12. Short trail run yesterday, 3.8 miles Out on the road bike tonight
  13. yeh, you and plenty others but I dont let it go to my head Seriously though, if you ever need any advice bout anything from training, nutrition, motivation, recovery etc just drop me a PM Always glad to help out if I can.
  14. done ironman in 2010 & 2011, that involves 2.4m swim, 112m bike followed by 26.2m run so Ive put a few hours in over the years Build up slowly, no more than a 10% increase in mileage or hours each week, take rest days as they build muscle & strength, drink plenty and eat well. Stick at it and you achieve your goal !
  15. Whilst you may be back at work sooner than you think, it is also possible that it may take longer than expected for you to be back 100% strength. Sign up with a couple of temping agencies to pick up bits of light work in the mean time as some money is better than none. Best of luck
  16. If the office job is paying enough to buy 5-6 houses in 7 years then I'd keep at that and retire early.
  17. just back from pub watching united get beat by some new upstarts Yeh pete, had no problems with Millhouse, very professional Dave was great all week giving loads of advice not only about how to pass the assessement but real work scenarios and tips. Andy Mcclouglin was the assessor, his usual relaxed approach keeps you at ease allowing you to perform to your best.
  18. I passed units CS38 & CS39 today and wanted to say a big thanks to: Millhouse training for a well organised course Dave Padley for his excellent tution and guidance Fellow candidate Carl for his Salford charm and Andy the assessor for giving me a pass Many thanks Paul
  19. Doing CS38/39 training this week so spent the day practising branch walks, change-overs and aerial rescue in the rain. Now drying out saturated gear for a repeat tomorrow!
  20. count me in Paul
  21. same logic though, climbing and moving round a tree with the use of ropes and slings for protection is free climbing. Climbing and moving round a tree without any kind of protection is soloing. Paul
  22. Free (free of fixed protection) climbing means you climb placing your own protection ie cams, chocks, hexes etc as opposed to climbing using fixed (sport or bolt climbing) protection ie preplaced bolts. Any climbing without any protection or rope is soloing. Paul
  23. weetabix or muesli with honey, banana & bluberries
  24. I won't price nowt cheap. Don't climb with a saw meself, but will always subcontract someone who is a properly insured pro who will do a pro job. I'll price the job for what I think it's worth and make sure I make ok money out of it, otherwise it just isn't worth bothering. Now that makes perfect sense to me!
